  • This video is on Shoulder Checks and Lane Changes. Shoulder checks are performed when we can't see objects in our blind spots or outside our peripheral vision. Usually anything passed your shoulders thus the name. It's often the last action performed prior to a lane change or any other maneuver. Always check your mirrors first then signal and shoulder check. You can't always trust your mirrors that's why shoulder checks are so important.

    I would like to express my gratitude for creating numerous informative videos for young drivers. I successfully passed my road test on September 13th, on my first attempt. Your videos were incredibly helpful in clearing up any confusion. Thank you so much!

    What's the point in shoulder checking during a left turn at lights? If something was in your blind spot it would have been run over by the last car that passed you in the opposing direction

    Hi! Thank you so much for answering all of my questions via comments. I was wondering if swerving around parked cards in streets is considered a lane change in different scenarios 1)residential streets with no lanes, 2)with one yellow line and you are crossing it partially, 3) with one yellow line and you have to completely go into the incoming traffic lane. I always shoulder check but I wonder if I have to signal left and right when swerving around. Thank you!

    I can do two shoulder checks before signal and then before turning. Is this good or bad?

  • @forrent9283
    @forrent9283 Před 2 lety

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it you're supposed to look in the direction your vehicle is moving, so when backing up, you shouldn't be looking anywhere but behind you once you've completed your mirror and 360 checks. This is contrary to your actions at 3:25 were you rely solely on your mirrors.

    Hi, I have a question regarding shoulder check. Do I need to do shoulder check twice for every turn? One would be half block of approaching to intersection and another one is exactly right before turning, is it true?

      @spindrivingschoolbookedtil7125  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi. Once is enough but if you're stopping for anything i.e (red lights, stop signs) then its good to shoulder check again.

    you must teach how to tell it safe to move to other lane . it not just say shoulder check to a first time learner,. We do not know yet how to tell distances by mirrors. Just a thought for future films.

  • @karenharris3183
    @karenharris3183 Před 2 lety +1

    why is it not taught to students this way? Every where . Mirrors are very hard for beginners to see what it is we must learn. you show us cars while you are not even moving.Every once in a while I get to see a decent film.

  • @pitpao
    @pitpao Před rokem

    I know you have to shoulder check for your driving test but if people don't know what they are supposed to be looking for they just are acting like trained chickens. Truck drivers don't shoulder check because they have convex mirrors and most importantly they have situational and temporal awareness. Teaching people to get their license is one thing, teaching them how to drive well is a whole other thing. You can also lean forwards to see further out in your mirrors and you can also set them to be angled out a lot further than you showed. The only time I shoulder check in a car is when I actually am not sure at all of what is in my blind spot.

      A person could get a sore neck with all that shoulder checking. But if they want it for the road test, then better more than less.
