    Your encouraging comments on other metal former's channels is the prime example of high class & humility. The dvds are favorites esp. on evenings following a high stress work day, the metal distortion around the punched holes is like a happy little trees in oil paintings. Thanks!

What could be done to create an approximation of the same seat, but cutting down the number of primary sections and the integral wired edge . There has to innumerable options to cut down the cost if it was needed to outsource something like this to get a project finished.

    Are the wholes purely an aesthetic choice or do they offer other uses?

    • @RonCovell
      @RonCovell  Před rokem +1

      I have done a series of videos on 'Bomber' seats, and just after WW2, many home builders used surplus aircraft seats in their hot rod projects because they were cheap, and widely available. In aircraft use, weight is critical, so holes were put in these seats to make them lighter. I use holes as a design element, which I think really makes a project like this more interesting to look at.

    That wire around the perimeter isn't really doing anything to add structural support, am I right in thinking its there to stop the folded over edge [that surrounds it]; from collapsing into a fold?

    • @RonCovell
      @RonCovell  Před rokem

      The wire adds a lot of strength to the edge. If you hold two strips of metal in your hands - one with a wired edge, and one that's plain, you can immediately feel the additional strength the wire adds. Most automobiles used wired edges on the fender edges up to the mid-1930's to strengthen them, and help prevent cracking.

    Weird comment coming but I've been talking to Paul Brodie and he said he'd like to do a collab w/ you on something like you and This Old Tony did when you mailed the parts back and forth... He said he didn't have your number so I figured this was probably the best way to talk to you. You should comment on his latest video and I'm sure he'd answer back... It's my fault too because I kept saying 'I'd love to see you and him do a video' and now I'm trying to get you two to start talking because I'd love to see your style of body work on a bike frame by Paul. 😁👍🙏

    • @bobweiram6321
      @bobweiram6321 Před rokem

      @@RonCovell I don't know if rolations apply, but I would love to see smallish dust collector shroud and an impeller build using hobbyist friendly tools and materials like pop rivets, solder and galvanized sheetmetal. A second stage transparent plexiglass baffle would be even more awesome. There's quite a few of these videos, but they look homely and fail to inspire. I believe it would be an extremely popular video and would increase your subs, since woodworkers are a huge part of the DIY market. The addition of the plexiglass baffle would show how your metal working can be applied to other types of materials. At the end of it all, you'll have your very own shop dust collector.

      @@RonCovell The best CZcams videos are by Mathias Wandel and he gets into the entire science. It's really quite simple. The goal is to maximize CFM, which needs a 3500rpm 1hp motor. A professional looking sheet metal recreation of his wooden one would be great. The shroud and impeller is the hardest one to make and the second stage baffle is the other. Most just build the second stage for their preexisting dust collector. I saw your sander video, but ideally a nice metal, general purpose one is what people want. You might even collab with him. He has over a million subs.
