    Thanks Ron, the original seat was so simple that I thought to myself "I could certainly make that!" Now that you have expanded on the original seat with the holes and the capping strip, not only have you given me the self belief in making the same seat, you've got my creative juices flowing, lap belt loops? even a head rest? Thank you Ron, you certainly have a gift for teaching. 👍

    Some of these videos give me a headache. It isn't that their not explained well, it's that I rack my brain trying to figure out how you figured it out. Each dilemma, followed by a successful solution. Albeit, a very articulated and precise solution but a solution all the same that gets the job done as much as it does elude me. Great job as always and thank you for sharing.

      Bryan - thank you for watching and commenting.
      You know, everyone's mind works differently - that's just the way of the world. May I humbly suggest that you simply enjoy it if you can follow someone else's solution, without needing to understand how they developed it?
      I can often figure out how to make shapes from sheetmetal, but never in my lifetime could I develop theoretical postulations on the level of Einstein, or invent a succulent dinner at the level of a Cordon Bleu chef, and I'm OK with that.

    Wow Ron, those few changes really made this simple seat look a lot more refined and visually interesting. The little 4-40 flathead screws are a super nice detail too. It’s always interesting to see how you figure out a process for getting any job done, like forming that U-channel into the right shape in two different planes. Thanks so much for sharing these videos, I always learn something!

    • @RonCovell
      @RonCovell  Před 2 lety +4

      Thanks, so much, Joe. I learned a few good things through this process too. My initial plan was to crimp the channel onto the metal edges with a beading machine, but when that didn't get the cap sufficiently tight I sought a solution that would work even for people who may not have a beading machine.

  • @KarriKoivusalo
    @KarriKoivusalo Před 2 lety +1

    I had to make a couple of odd sized flanged holes, far too few to warrant buying or making a press tool, so I took an EAA video trick and used a wooden dowel with a rounded head and a slot. Going around the edge several times, bending it up a bit by bit with the slot each rime, gave surprisingly decent results.

    I love your videos and those of Gene Winfield and Lazze. Your work inspired me to build my own 1932 roadster body from 18ga cold rolled steel. If I had known all the problems of fabricating the body from steel I think I would have used aluminum. I am accomplished structural aluminum and steel fabricator and have done body work in the past but this was my first try at sheet metal fabrication of this size. Right now I am at the point of needing seats so I have been looking thru videos to build the, This seat may be a starting point for me but I want a bench seat which I am thinking this seat could become with some work.

    I love your art, Ron. And your unique ways of problem solving. It's always interesting and thought provoking. Now, to take a good thing too far, what about hand engraving around those holes? That's and art form I was going to pursue with a gunsmith friend, but he relocated to North Dakota before we got too it. Remember the flungs!

    • @RonCovell
      @RonCovell  Před 2 lety +1

      Engraving is an artform in itself, and one I have never explored. I have seen some magnificent engraving on cars and motorcycles, and I would certainly encourage you to learn more about it.
      For anyone who is reading this, and is curious about the term 'flungs', I once installed a fuel level sensor with instructions in 'Chinglish', which said to drill holes in the tank for the mounting screws, then hold the tank upside down and shake it to remove the 'flungs' - you know, the bits of metal that fling out when holes are drilled.

Recently I got the idea in my head that I could build a metal "library card catalog" cabinet. The ones they used in the library with like 27 drawers in it. I have purchased a used one and have been using it as a tool cabinet - it's awesome. After inspecting how the drawers are made, it doesn't seem like too complicated of a build. I would love to see your take on how to build it (if looking for video ideas).......If you'd like to see pictures of the cabinet I bought with details on the drawer construction, just let me know and I'll send them to you

    Very nice, my boss has decided he wants to build a Bonneville car, so he picked up a 27 T roadster body, this looks like a nice little seat, i may try and build one out of aluminum, thanks for your effort.

    Your craftsmanship always astounds me. Your simple approach is brilliant. I am now trying this project with the exception of the width. I am making mine wider to accommodate my width. Thank you for sharing such amazing work and processes. I only wished I had had an opportunity to apprentice under a master such as yourself.

      I'm glad you enjoyed this project, and plan to make your own bomber seat. Yes, people (and bomber seats) come in all shapes and sizes!
      If you don't have an in-person mentor, CZcams is the next best thing. I've learned so much from other CZcamsrs!
