I'm just now getting into the chicken stuff and I can't believe that things like this wasn't already industry standard 20 years ago. I mean moving the chickens everyday seems like a no-brainer in a coup like this.
I think it's a good system to implement anywhere. My congratulations to the developers of the idea and to the channel for spreading it

I love this. I like Joelâs tractors fine but theyâre not scalable like this one is. Seems like you get so much bang for your buck here with far less work
I put trailer Bulldog jack dolly swivel wheels on jacks one each of the corners, jack them down and then you can pull the coop sideways. Easy

but
$8 per 12 eggs is normal.
and
$15 per stewchicken is also normal.

So it seems like the natural progression is to go from dragging chicken tractors around to dragging high tunnels around. Lots of details being discussed for what is basically a simple concept.
The simplest things often require the most details to get right.

And how much water does it take to keep your grass green? Per acre.

I would disagree in that the longevity of polyface, and their continued profitability, would argue that they are an actual business model. It may be harder to build and sell education as a commodity (especially compared to tangible livestock) but it truly is a commodity. I don't blame growers one bit for avoiding the struggles of convincing interns at the levels required of a polyface like farm, and the continuous educating requirements needed to make it effective... You need a proven track record, countless man-hours for training purposes, ample amount of work to build their experience, as well as information participants feel like they can't receive elsewhere. But, reduced labor costs on the farm is one advantage of prioritizing the "education" commodity. It only makes sense that you will pay more for labor when all you are contributing to it is hourly wage. When you provide enough education and support that your labor is voluntarily choosing to accept that as a portion of their compensation, you reap the benefits of the work it took to get there.

@@igneousc are you implying that every second or third generation farmer who inherited their land doesnât have an actual business modelâŠ? Because if so, that is a shortsighted and ignorant statement. Most farms in the US are multi-generational.
@@Isaacmantx yes try to start a "traditional" farm today without inherited land or a massive cash infusion(plus endless crop subsidies). The numbers don't work.
The problem is polyface is always pitched as an attainable goal for someone looking to start farming in a more sustainable manner, and for almost everyone that's just not possible. Never have I seen someone say, if your family already has hundreds of acres of relatively fertile land, you too can be like polyface!
