Trucks can roll into the infield for easy loading and unloading... Cart could be used in the walkways between the levels and then you have to use artificial lighting at night to make it absolutely flourish 🛐📈

    Humic acid can only be found in humus and not in compost as compost is a product made by humans through heating proces, so there’s no humus in compost. Only soil life creates humus.

  • @ikke.gernoasje

    So if you are in an area where it rains a lot and you have compacted soil, the water won't be drained. That makes the soil go anaërobic. That means mostly bad bacteria???... Ph will drop and veggies needing a ph 8 won't grow as it should be. On top of that there will be to much toxicity in the soil???... Think there's a problem in that way of thinking as NOT all anaerobic bacteria are bad. I think there must in deed be more aerobic than anaerobic bacteria, but just as with the nitrogen/carbon there must be an 1 to 3 ratio water/air. It's generally know, also in humans, that the more oxygen there is the bigger the living being...

    I just saw a video on a video on a relatively easy way to get rid of weeds and increase soil fertility. Similar I believe to the lasagna method.. First you weedwack or cut down any weeds that are there now. Next you apply a like 2” layer of manure or compost,then a layer of cardboard and wet the whole thing well. Next goes on a layer of wood chips, preferably not pine but if that’s all you can get, so be it. Next another 2” layer of manure, wet it down again. Then another layer of cardboard, saturate again.. I kind of remember that you could go higher if needed but that’s as far as went with it. Then you cover the whole shibang completely with a tarp (your preference). Finally, overwinter the plot or longer. You may choose to till in or it all into the soil and I hope you will be happy with the results. Cheers

    I have rocky clay soil at home and can attest to the fact that putting roots in the soil is the number one biggest contribiter to being able to grow incredibly. Compost/organic matter is vital but secondary. I initially let the weeds grow, pulled them out and then planted my choice of seed in their place, letting my choice plants drop seed on top of weed seed for the following season; then rince and repeat for Autum/Winter. I couldn't afford much in terms of compost but what little I could afford, I spread out thinly. I also made weed tea from my plucked weeds and would occationally fertilise with that. Now with all that, let me tell you, from from Spring to Spring, in only 1 year, my plants grew 2-4 times the size they started at, depending on the plant. Including chopping and dropping, I stopped watering at the start of my second year and just watched in amazement as my garden thrived. I'll only be watering to start new seed but some have already come up by themselves from the previous seasons dropped seed. So ja... all in all, I am of the opinion than we need less compost/organic matter than we think, at least I do. The roots do one hell of a job in tilling and feeding the micro biology in the soil for a good start. I'll be trying cover crops this time; intead of weeds. Happy gardening! 😊

    I’m in the high desert in SoCal. Seems like wood chips conserve water, but ground cover plants would be transpiring it away. As for improving the soil lower down, don’t earthworms and other organisms do a lot of that? Not to mention the roots of the plant(s) you are mulching?

    I'd like to remind everyone who composts how much difference your climate makes! I live at over 6,000 feet elevation with less than 20 inches of rain per year, relative humidity under 20% a lot of the time. Everything dries out here! I have often used wire fence material to form a composting circle and it dries out like crazy. I'm wondering if anyone has tried moistening the standing pile via drip irrigation. If you know the effects of drip irrigation ( deep slow watering with little on the surface and much less evaporation while watering ) you might try it. Twenty years composting here! It can be done nearly anywhere as long as you adapt to the climate. Happy gardening!

  • @spaceape5678

    You have to mix them with other dirt and compost items…they give the soil a matrix that holds the air better than sand or clay or compost material such as food scraps….they are basically your carbon. I don’t know… that is what I’ve seen on half acre of chipping branches and collecting food scraps and grass clippings. Doesn’t hurt to add a little Milorganite and stale beer every once in a while.

  • @margaretmarshall3645
    @margaretmarshall3645 Před 21 dnem

    In an arid area, I’ve seen a couple of videos suggesting you put irrigation, maybe a soaker hose, underneath the wood chips. That will allow the wood chips to decompose below and not block 19:40 19:40 19:40 water from reaching the roots. The top of the wood chips stay dry and help keep weed seeds from sprouting. But it may make more sense for fruit trees than for annual veggies. On Edge Of Nowhere orchard and farm outside of Phoenix, they actually lay down the wood chips and start irrigating months BEFORE planting fruit trees, so that decomposing wood chips will improve the soil in advance of planting trees.

    I use chop and drop only and have no need to compost anywhere else since I would have to double move the bulky materials. It has taken me some time to get it right but I have great success doing so. When you layer it correctly brown green brown green you get the compost once it is done and in the in-between you get mulch and green manure which is the water you talked about. It leaches into the soil loaded with microbes because they live in the water/sap. The worms and beetles and such eat/poop and die in the material leaving it rich and weed less:]
