    As a Ricciardo and Mclaren fan that really was a mixed bag of emotions. Daniel getting to fourth after such a rubbish pit stop was awesome but Lando not going on to win after being so good in the dry hurt.

      He is doing what he has learned during his time at Renault: see the big picture - calculate a safe outcome. This season so far, he has finished every single race - hasn't (really) wrecked a car yet - he drives a car that is difficult to drive and designed around his teammate, yet still managing to come closer and sometimes even surpassing Lando - he was the one taking home the first historic win for the team in over a decade (even making it a near perfect weekend point-wise. In other words, his solid points finish today is a result of Ricciardo's racing IQ, reading the race, seeing the big picture, Lando was so close - oh dear, I suppose he has not slept well that night. But he did throw away valuable points here, like a child chasing a lollipop in a mall.

    This race and result for LANDO is going to be very crucial in defining him and his F1 career.
    - Gain huge character development - as a driver.
    - Gain the experience and humility of trusting his technical team.
    - Managing his hunger.
    - Better confidence is his driving ability as he grown into his own.
    - The realisation that he belongs and has full right to be in F1 and full confidence to challenge for Championship.

I didn't expect him to win or keep up but the experience of having to fight or defend against them is huge. Having Hamilton behind you as a driver as young as him has to be such a valuable experience for him to get used to that kind of pressure being amped up from F2 and whatnot.

    When it comes to lando’s decision: we can’t have it both ways. We can’t on the one side complaint about the lack of risks that the teams and drivers like bottas and Ferrari and Mercedes take and at the same time complaint about landos decision. Especially when just 24 hours before he made a rain-related decision that literally got him on pole. He has every right to follow his intuition. And I hope he doesn’t shy away from it in the future. We’ll live and die by his hand. The way it has to be.

      Yes! Just luck wouldn’t have him in the race.
      Honestly, it was the right decision, yes he lost the win, but imagine if he pitted and it didn’t rain ( Lewis was always gonna do the opposite) , he would have come P2. That would equally heart breaking. And honestly, it’s not like he fighting for the pts and the championship.

      @Cailus3542 Před 2 lety +8

      It wasn't Lando's fault, in this particular case, or at least, mostly not his fault. It was very much the team's responsibility. Mercedes faced an identical situation, were looking at identical data and also had a driver who wanted to stay out. Mercedes told him to shut up and pit. Mclaren told their driver to do what he wanted. It was a difficult call either way, but Mclaren made that call just as much as Lando did. More so, arguably. Lando knew the track conditions better than the team did, but the team had the weather data and knew what the track conditions would be like 5-10 minutes later.

Did they tell him that pretty much the entire field bar him and Lewis had all jumped into inters the laps before? No. Lando would literally have been better off if they'd turned the radio off. Thomas Taylor is obviously not a fan of Lando so don’t listen to him. I guess the 7 time world champion showed his great experience in Hungary this year when on the race restart Lewis and Mercedes were the only car on the grid on inters and cost himself the win right? I guess people seem like geniuses but forget that the race leader has it all to lose if you pit and others don’t 4 laps from the end of the race. It’s easier fir the cars to pit because they aren’t giving up the lead so close to the end of the race.

    • @sbrfalcon17
      @sbrfalcon17 Před 2 lety +2

      Wow, a lot of emotional responses. I didn't say it was an easy choice or that he could have known or even that it was entirely his fault (responsibility and fault are not synonymous btw), but having watched the race I heard him shout no at the team when they suggested pitting. He was therefore part of the decision making process, and many interviews after the race (from many teams) have revealed that these decisions almost always falls to the driver, therefore it was in his hands. I simply cannot believe that if it was a less likeable driver (Mazepin, for example) in the same position that the reaction from the fans would be the same.
      Lewis did the same but his team over ruled him, McLaren should've done the same and they will learn from it.
      But think on this, if Norris bares no responsibility for his loss, does Max deserve any credit for getting the call right? if they were both just luck?
      As a side note - I'm pretty neutral towards Lando

      To be fair if he pitted then Hamilton would have most probably followed him and overtaken him to get the win. So his gamble was to go all the way to the win. There was almost no other way to get P1. Imagine if he pitted and got P2, it would have been the right decision but he would still have wondered for months if it was worth it to take the risk. For him it is almost better taking P8 trying to get the victory than P2 with a concession.
