- Alienware has come out with the all-new Aurora R16.This gaming machine came in a plain box. Don't let the box fool you. We had the pleasure of opening it to reveal the beauty within. This model has much improved airflow and starts with the 40's generation of RTX gaming cards.

There is a reason they made it so the box doesn't label the item inside as a computer. BECAUSE they don't want it stolen by people.
Thank you for the unboxing video. I also have the R16. The right cover, where "aurora" is embossed does not have a plastic film, like yours. I have seen some unboxing videos where it had a plastic film. Mine does not look used. Is this a cause for concern?
We have gotten a machine before that was actually refurbished when it was suppose to be new, if you are concerned we recommend calling Dell and see if they are willing to swap you out.
@@TachibanaTech I contacted dell and they told me I got a new unit. How did you know the machine you received was refurbished?
I notice you got the green ram sticks in your build which was supposedly only shipped with their earliest of builds. I’ve read they now ship with black ram to match the rest of the case. I will be getting my r16 tomorrow I’m hoping it includes the black ram although not a major deal breaker for me but would be nice.
I lied, it is an option to select to upgrade from regular RAM to the black XMP ram :(
Dang, we were excited to hear you say that because that is a weird design choice.
The R15 box was also pretty basic. This is much smaller too
Fair point, but it seems Alienware is getting less and less enthusiastic about standing out with each release which is basically the point of the whole brand.
Looks like the G15 from Dell kinda cheep design in mine opinion 🤔
Yeah we agree, the Dell G line was always for the folks that wanted gaming in a normal box and Alienware was always the extravagant design so this was pretty disappointing. At least they started the R16 at a lower price with higher specs than in years past.
Is the r16 worth it
Honestly, the redesign may be a stark contrast from earlier models so if having a more standard looking machine is fine then yeah it is worth it because Dell frequently drops the price and has sales on the Alienware line of computers which can be a nice gaming machine for a good cost. If cost is a large concern Dell has a G-Line which is basically the same components for a little less cost as it does not carry the Alienware branding.
@@TachibanaTech thanks I might buy it
I've given up on Alienware after this model. I was hyped and ready to lay down money on an R15 so I went in to Best Buy to get one. The sales person shows me this R16. Zero style, hardly any RGB lighting inside the case. Just looks lazy and like they didn't care when they slapped it together. The deal breaker for me wasn't the proprietary hardware, it was that they gimped the ability to overclock the CPU, fans and RAM in the system BIOS. As an owner of an X17 R1 laptop, they've lost me as a future customer. Instead I just bought a Corsair VENGEANCE i8200. Yeah, expensive but at least I'm getting my $4500 worth.
We definitely agree, it was a very sad shame that they did this design. Even worse they seem to have finally spread it to the laptops too. We are hoping that they bring back the creative designs if there is enough backlash. We will definitely be looking at other machines to unbox if they keep this design trend.
