  • I have wanted to do a custom hot wheels General Lee vs General Grant fo some time now and finally decided to give it a whirl. I went in consoderably different directions with each casting, and obviously took some creative liberties with appearances.

Very creative! Was a little skeptical of the “dirty” General Lee but if you think about it the General Lee was always rodding the dirt backroads. You nailed it perfectly! Excellent work!

When I lived in south Carolina, a buddy of mine, owned a General Lee.
I was born in the south, but raised in America.
At the time, I owned a Ford Torino with a GT hood and tail lights.
We stripped it to bare metal. Painted it an Air Force blue, and made it a General Grant. Ford vs. Dodge.
We were just cruising down the highway. A cop pulled me over, and gave me a ticket for speeding.
Before leaving, he said that I couldn't outrun the General Lee.
He didn't know that my cassette stereo was also a tape recorder. I went to court, with my tape recorder. Played it for the judge. He dropped the case.
When I find the picture of both of the cars, side by side. I'll put it on your comments.

Hot Wheels just put out a Monster Truck two pack, Awesome Rodger Dodger with a massive Motor and the best looking Charger R/T with a blower an rear tyre exhausts. Monster R/T is begging someone to Custom it back to Earth, looks so good!
I thought We were meant to clear coat before adding grime? Clear saved My Butchery plenty of times.
Unreal Builds, The Charger Gods must be around or something. Great Show OSS.

Keith they came out wicked cool. The color you picked out for your General Grant is really close to the show car that made it's rounds back in the 80's early 90's. Nice rides. Ive done a lot of rusty car's and I have three different methods. 1 is the steel wool method im sure you know that one. It's a little messy but the trick is to use a hair dryer to dry it quickly and repeat til you like it. 2 is a flat red primer i like the krylon but rustoleum has a nice one too. I spray the car with it first and then i paint it a stock looking color and then I wet sand it with a high grit sand paper and then i spray some primer in a puddle on a paper plate or whatever you want to. Then I take a sponge and dab it in the primer and then dab it on a paper towel to thin it out a bit then I dab it on the car here and there. It ends up looking pretty cool most of the time.. And 3 tomiya makes a good weathering powder it comes with one little applicator which you can buy more of these super cheap in the make up isle i make the wife grab those for me lol but you can make it heavy in certain areas and it looks realistic. I hit it with a super light coat of matt clear here and there just to seal the deal but not too heavy. Anyways keep em coming brother.
