like i mentioned in the last video ya did of the Boss Hogg's Car i am a Big The Dukes of Hazzard fan ! and i have some More Fun Facts for you about these lovley General Lee's From Ertl ! 1) 1981 molds of the General lee were more Detailed ! you can see there are Gooves in the back pannel for the tail lights ! in later 1997 Molds are less detailed and the Gooves in the back pannel for the tail lights are filled in ! thus you do not get to see the tail light pannel /grooves in later Molds ! another Key Differnce is that the 1981 molds of the General lee had rounded tube shaped Mufflers and the later 1997 Molds had the Block Mufflers on the underside Detail ! the reason for this was that the rounded tube shaped Mufflers were on a lot of the Stunt General lees for the skiing the stunt cars ! while the Block Mufflers were on the Hero car aka not stunt used ! other changes to stunt and hero was that the Engine used on the Hero car was a 440 Engine while the Stunt Cars used the 383 Engeine and it is also said that some Hero cars also used a V8 Hemi engine as well ! as seen later in the 2005 and 2007 Dukes of hazzard movies . 2) the first wave of ERTL 1981 molds of the General lee had white lettering General lee decal and black interior ! the later relases of the 1997 mold had verious changes from Black lettering General lee decal and Black interior to more of a fawn colored intrior and later had the blue and white edged lettering General lee decal . 3) the 01 Decals ! on all the sizes of the ERTL General Lee's 1:64 ( like the one's worked on the video ) 1:25 and the 1:18 scale General Lee 01's all seemed to be Block and scrunched together ! now the reason for the thicker 01's is because during fliming the season the Crew moved to a new location and so the Decals on the General lee also Changed ! they filmed in Gorgia and then moved to California to shoot the show ! swapping between locations sometimes also ! the thicker 01 was from the Original Gorgia General lee while the thiner 01 Decals were from the GL's in California ! but most ERTL models have the the thicker 01 that was from the Original Gorgia General lee ! lol but there was one Funny occasion i found a Digital 01's Decal in the ERTL Model kit ! Oopse ! anyways there is sappost to be a space between the 01's like 0 1 space between them but i belive why the ERTL Company had a more Squashed together 01's Decal was because of the picture's Given to them ! some pics of the General lee on an Angle looks like the 01's are close together ! like this "01" but in reality there was a small gap in between the 01's like this " 0 1 " Ooops ! :)

back in the 80's Ertl had those General Lees churned out at several factories. it appears the molds from China survived, as they were reused in the 90's when there was a Dukes resurgence. in the later years of the Resurgence. the Generals (1:64 scale) gained more detailing on the lettering, and the interior plastic went from black to tan.

I had a few of these and a couple of the "Bandit" trans am's. I always liked the Ertl for their flexible axles. Great comment. The suspension was a huge selling point for me as well. The jumps as you mentioned looked so cool as the cars crashed to the track. Plus when racing them the "bounce" they had was awesome. I liked some Lesney and Matchbox for the same reasons. I still collect to this day. 50+ yrs old and I still love my cars. Sadly my health has caused my hunting trips to end. But these cars are, have been, and will continue to be a big part of me and my life.

I noticed some comments below pointing out that the grill should be blacked out. I want to let it be known that Danny’s Diecast Disasters is aware of how the grill “should” be and yes it would look cool and more screen accurate however the grill was not blacked out on these toys. The purpose of these restorations was to return both cars to as close to their original mint condition as possible.
