Buy & Sell - 1980s Johnson 4hp 2 stroke mini outboard motor

Here is a quick look at a neat old Johnson 4.0 HP outboard motor I picked up off of a local buy and sell website yesterday. It looks to be in fantastic condition too! In the video I described it as a single cylinder but upon closer inspection is it a 2 cylinder engine. Perfect for a small boat, canoe, kayak or even truck inner tube raft. I bet this one won't sit very long before it sells.

hi, i bought this same motor the other day. otherwise runs mint, but after a while at full throttle it dies down. but starts right up. any idea what it could be?

Its a Circa 1980 up to 86 ( I think, but could be later), Fuel oil mix is 50 to 1. I have a 1980 model i am trying to get running.

I just bought one do these 4 hp have a fuel pump or is it just gravity fed

Ok it just gravity fed i got it running today float was no good and the carb bowl was solder and leaking cleaned the carb and changed the parts runs like new

These motors run 100:1 mix I don't fault you at all though . It's insane!!! I run 80

That wasn't smoke. It was steam ad the was no water cool in it

We had an Evinrude 4 hp which was the identical engine only with different paint. I am almost positive the engine is a twin cylinder, alternate firing.
They were great motors.

Your correct , upon research online I discovered it's a twin. I didn't even have time to pop the cover on that motor. I resold not 24hrs after I bought it. The new owner is thrilled with it, was a super buy for him!

@@machinesnmetal I am glad the motor has a god home. I used to purchase antique outboards and restore them. My favorite was a 1938 Neptune, It had an Eiseman magneto and a tillotson carb - a pretty good combo.
The old motors had so much character.
