    If they put the 6.2 in a single cab silverado with a color match grill and a different bumper and wheels they would sell them like 24 packs on a Friday night

      @AmericaFirstKorey Před 7 lety +7

      Family owns a 99' 2500 4wd Suburban with the 454 (7.4).. 240,000 miles. Not a single issue, definitely a mistake stepping away from even the 502 (8.1) in these larger vehicles.

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP Před 7 lety +4

      If this sells well, I bet you'll see GM change their tune on the Suburban. Regarding the 7.4 and 8.1, I bet GM has found that people who are so serious about power in a utility vehicle simply opt to purchase a Silverado HD instead, and simply opt to go Duramax while there. No reason to offer and engineer a vehicle that doesnt sell well.

    I noticed that when Ford introduced the 10 spd transmission, they told everyone that they built it in a partnership with Chevrolet, but in this video when that guy introduced the transmission as their new 10 spd, not one time did I here him announce that it was in partnership with Ford. What's up with that?

    • @illstplaya
      @illstplaya Před 7 lety +17

      Jason Walker I think it's because GM and Ford both developed the transmission together but the transmission is modified for each companies specific application. I'm sure the zl1 Camaro 10 speed has stronger internals compared to the other vehicles with the same 10 speed. so it's essentially the same but GM designed it specifically for their applications while ford designed it for their own applications

    • @TFLtruck
      @TFLtruck  Před 7 lety +23

      +allmotorkp61 Yes, GM and Ford co-developed this transmission. Neither will say which components are shared and which are unique to each.

    • @jhowe67
      @jhowe67 Před 7 lety +15

      They developed the case with ford to accommodate the 10 gears in a small package, but each company developed the internals on their own to better handle their specific needs. The raptor 10 speed is set to handle a turbo v6, and it shifts fast, but not really all that much faster than a 6 speed. The one on the camaro, is one of the fastest shifting transmissions in a production car and it is the fastest automatic trans, better than most dual clutch trans. I would guess this trans will fit in between the two.

    • @2003evodave
      @2003evodave Před 7 lety +3

      jhowe67 The new technology (mostly in the efficiency of the clutch design) in this 10 speed is from Ford, the changes Chev made was to make it work for their applications, this was done by Ford to gain access to the new Chev front wheel drive 9 speed auto transmission.
      It's called a trade.

    • @jamescundiff3264
      @jamescundiff3264 Před 7 lety +1

      allmotorkp61 Ford and General Motors both offer different types of rear gears so I'm sure the internal gear ratio on the transmission will be completely different from GM 10 speed to Ford's 10 speed.

    • @blacke.blackerton5430
      @blacke.blackerton5430 Před 7 lety +1

      Evan Warren, as said by other posters, both the Yukon Denali, and Cadillac Escalade come with the 6.2L V8. Only this has a 10 speed, as the others have the 8 so far. So him saying they shoehorned the engine in, is false. The frame, and most components on the Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade are the same. Their structure are identical. They can canabalize parts from each other, as they are mainly the same vehicles, long as comparing the Premier and Denali trims, with the Escalade, and comparing lesser trims of the Tahoe and Yukon (non Denali) to one another...

    Yeah fine, just wait till you see what you have to pay for it. They won't put the 6.2L in the Suburban because they don't want to hurt the Escalade and Denali cash cows. With GM it's all about making more money by offering it in a more expensive package, no muscle car SUV's here. Dodge offers a much better bargain with the Durango R/T, and the 2018 SRT will kick the RST's butt for less money.

      Well Honestly a majority of GM SUV's on the road are Tahoes... so with that said nothing will pull the Yukon and Escalade markets. Chevy SUV's are practically on the lower end of luxury compared to the Escalade and Yukon. You're going for the Latter two for Style, and luxury, you're going for the Tahoe for basic space, some bells and whistles. Anyone who gets a "high trim" Tahoe or Suburban should literally shoot themselves in the foot. Id get a Yukon over the Tahoe anyday.

      It's the same generation Tahoe that's been around. It's barely been 2 years since it has been out. The Trailblazer is a long-dead nameplate, but the 1/4 truck chassis of the Chevorlet Colorado and GMC Canyon are around for such a possiblity for a Trailblazer successor.

    • @ec6933
      @ec6933 Před 7 lety

      Just because the body is new, I don't consider the rest of the truck new, I love Chevy (I own a duramax and have had 4 suburban) I recently rented one of these new suburbans on vacation, and my buddy who doesn't even have an interest in cars but has grown up with me and my subrurbans said it perfectly and I was surprised he mentioned it the other night, that he was shocked at how awful the new ones are. They have WAYYY LESS space than the old ones... it felt like being in my 87 corvette, they're uncomfortable to drive, not any faster unfortunately as I was looking forward to that part. But mostly just horrible utility and comfort due to everything being so much more cramped compared to my 01 Yukon XL. That thing you could stretch out and lay down in, the new subrurban feels like your driving a huge car. And the front bucket seats are just so awful. The console is high. I couldn't see the drive selector as easily... compared to the strides some cars have made in the same time like say my 97 or 01 jetta to my 2015 the suburban went backwards HARD. Which is why I bought a used duramax.

      @Brian -- My point is, "body on frame" doesn't mean squat. Truck is a specific type of vehicle, with open space for loading in the back, completely separated from the cabin. Calling an SUV a truck and then defending it is mentally sloppy. You can say "this SUV is based on a truck platform", that's fine, but it's still an SUV. Its function determines that.

    What is the big deal here? Shoehorned in the 6.2? It is the same physical dimensions as 5.3. Am I missing something here? Is the 6.2 no longer available on Tahoe/Suburban without this package? Is this just another way Chevy has figured out to get more money from people who want the 6.2? Other than minor appearance, what is so special. The new 6.2 has been out for a couple of years now and in this "sport" package it is not even supercharged or more powerful. And the 10-speed should be standard across the entire truck line, IMO.
