- This might be my favorite video yet. I saw some beautiful scenery and also found the most highly concentrated area of Petoskey stones I have ever seen. Come explore this beautiful Lake Huron beach with me.
The Petoskey stone (Hexagonaria) is an approximately 360 million old fossilized coral. It is the state stone of Michigan. Petoskey stones are made of limestone which is very soft, approximately 3 on the Mohs scale. Since they are so soft, they can be polished by hand. - KINGSLEY NORTH -
Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

It looks like those circular formations at 6:30 are developing sinkholes. With the limestone bedrock so close to the surface, it would make sense that cave systems would develop during periods of lower water levels. As parts of the cave roof collapse, they would form the circular depressions we are seeing in the drone shot. It could also explain the 4-5 ft drop-off you were seeing in that area if there has been an overall sagging of the cave roof with some areas of deeper collapse forming those sinkholes.
Thanks David, it's good to get the opinion of an actual geologist, rather than me, who just plays a geologist on TV.
Can't really add more here. Pretty common in karst topography to see these, even offshore in Lake Huron.
@@captpaul8827 thanks for chiming in.
@@MichiganRocks cool! Thanks to all....and MR , you don’t look old enough to have a son-in-law.
Of course now I wanna drain the lake and look!
I know I said it on earlier videos but I'll say it again: your videos are SO calming and they are like a beacon of sanity in my everyday life. So thank you
You are welcome. There a lot of people who enjoy the calming quality in them. That wasn't even my intention in making them, but I'm glad that's the way they're turning out.
Rob, I have been wanting a Petoskey stone since I first started watching your videos, but Michigan is somewhere I can't get to just yet. I hunt daily and just happened to pick up a small rock in my gutter drain, and there it was. Thank you for your videos, your encouragement and knowledge! Because of your educational videos, I knew immediately what I had. It made my day.
That's a place I have never found a rock, but then again, I don't have gutters. I'm glad your wish came true!
Please tell the land-owners that let you get to the spot you were today ...Thank You Folks :) from me :) That was simply gorgeous . This videos is going on my favorite rock videos list :) I could gladly walk those beaches for hours and never be bored . Love the aerial footage too . You got a lot of everything in this video :)
I told them thank you from me, I'll tell them that you enjoyed it too. I think this is my favorite video so far.
The light rippling underwater was otherworldly. Thanks for taking us along on the adventure.
Thanks for watching. I love sharing what I'm doing.
The Ariel shots are so amazing, just the variation of rock on the lake bottom is so interesting.
I really like seeing how the bedrock breaks up from above.
aerial
This is def my fav vid. Wow, in a word, wow. Beautiful place, beautiful weather for a yak trip and a dip. Thanks for taking us along.
It's currently my favorite too.
A thumbs down??? Lol this video is straight up pure gold!!! Thanks for the amazing adventure Rob!
It happens on almost every video. Can't please everyone, I guess. I like this video and a couple thumbs down aren't going to change that.
I’ve never disliked a video unless it’s vulgar in some way but this content makes no sense??? Lol haters gonna hate. Curious if dislikes effect your standing in the CZcams universe? Omg btw, Love this video ❤️ The water looks so clear!!!!
@@MichiganRocks and they won't get you down cause your a good person having fun and sharing joy, I smiled the whole time and I guarentee so many others did. When that happens really quickly in video, you know its just someone being sour about something.
I’ve come to the conclusion that there are some people who don’t like anything !!!
@@davidhile5363 which is a bummer!
Hi! Just want to say Thank you! I live in San Francisco and the coast line is amazing to explore and can use some cleaning too! You have inspired me to get out there and love this planet so I’m picking up trash and stones now. Thanks again and I am looking forward to your next adventure!
Thanks for helping me clean the beaches. They aren't too bad around here, but there is still some trash and I feel bad if I don't pick it up.
Wow absolutely amazing . The water was stunning , and I loved the birds eye view. I also really enjoyed the snorkeling part.🥰😍💜
Those were my two parts too. The water temperature was perfect that day.
Wow, you really pulled it all together on this video! That was great it was warm enough to get in the water. What a great day; thanks for sharing it with us!
I'm glad you liked it. The water temperature was perfect.
I just adore Lake Huron. One of the most beautiful places on earth. So grateful to live near it.
I'm thankful to live here too.
I had no idea there was so much beauty there... I'm in awe
@@yeeyee6723 We like to keep it a secret. Shhh... Don't tell the others. Lol
I swear, no one talks about Lake Huron! Thanks for showing that it’s really there.
Oh, it's there, alive and well.
Loved the drone footage! And wow, man, epic place for fossils. Whether polishable or not, I love the Petoskey's that are the complete round coral head and stem. Really gives a sense of what the sea floor looked like 300 million years ago. Brilliant!
I left on behind that was just perfect. I kind of regretted it when I saw it on video. I have one just like it in the basement, which is why I didn't take it.
Absolutely beautiful ❣️
Thank you so very much for sharing Wonderful Michigan with us. There's no place I'd rather be and I really appreciate seeing the pieces I'd never see if not for your videos. Wonderful, beautiful Michigan 💖
Blessings to you and yours 🙏

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Irene. Michigan is a beautiful place to live.
For those of us that have moved away, you share with us the beauty we miss. Absolutely stunning, thanks to the person who told you about the area!!
Yes, I really appreciate that too.
My favorite video from you so far! Thank you for sharing your trip with us. 💚💙
My favorite too! I almost posted this one early because I was so excited to share it.
Thanks for this journey of peace and beauty. Since finding your channel a few weeks ago, I have become enamored of petrosky stones.I would have loved to find one like the beauties you picked up. Unfortunately, my disabilities keep me from rock hounding any more. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous day.
I'm glad to have you along!
Mannnnnnnnn! The footage is beautiful, and I’ve always thought that your kayak acts like a drone over the water. Very peaceful Mate. Still watching.
Edit: okay. Dude. Seriously. The title is spot on! I was going to time stamp the ones I liked and then there were too many! Haha! You are a petoskey Stone connoisseur! Beautiful mix of footage from high in the sky, water level and below. Loved this Rob. No better way to spend a rainy day, feet up and witnessing nature I don’t get to see first hand. Thank you Rob you legend!
Your drone shots are looking great too. It's fun having new toys, isn't it? This was a really fun video to make.
Michigan Rocks
Oh man it’s seriously so much fun. It makes filming a whole different experience and also editing. It was beautiful man.
The mother load! Cool! Of course undisclosed. Well I will just have to find my own then🤪
Good luck!
Wow that was so beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us. Just a stunning area.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
That was awesome!!!! So peaceful under water. I was surprised I didn’t see any fish. Thanks for sharing.
I saw a tiny bass swimming between two boulders, but it didn't show up on camera very well, so it didn't make the video.
It's beautiful there.. I love the water so clear..
Yes, I'm blessed to live in such a beautiful area.
Thank you SO MUCH for the vicarious Kayaking experience and the Motherlode of Petoski's. I really enjoy your drone shots as well. I want to thank you & all the Rockhound CZcams video providers for the quality vicarious experiences that you provide for those of us who are housebound out here in InternetLand. It's a wonderful thing you do, taking your phones & cameras with you wherever & whenever you go out to Hunt the Rocks. I keep telling people "It's as close to actually being there in person as is possible. I can almost smell the fresh air & water!" Thank You!!!
You're welcome, Sally. I really enjoy reading comments like this. I'm sad that you can't get out, but very happy to be able to enjoy the beach through my videos. You made my night! If you liked this one, there are a lot more like it, although this is one of my favorites.
I feel like I'm the one kayaking instead of watching it. Wonderful serenity.
Did your arms get tired?
What a gorgeous day! Thanks for sharing your adventure! What great finds! I think I would have sunk my kayak!
It wouldn't have been difficult to fill it at this spot. I really had fun that day.
Fantastic video, especially the under water part! You sure know how to live life to its fullest!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That was a fun day.
Wow! I agree , ur best video ever. Beautiful area and I was surprised how clear the water was. Awesome drone shots too! Thanks for taking the time to share your adventure! Cleveland rocks! Go Bucks!!!
I'm really having fun with the drone. I'm seeing things in a way I have never seen before.
Lovely. Just a gorgeous location. Quite enjoyed the video, thank you!
I had fun making it too.
Gosh what a fabulous day on the lake - perfect weather, the water looked so inviting, and not a soul in sight. Love the aerial footage - really can see so many more potential places worth exploring! Shall share 👍😎🐾🦘
I like how you can see the patterns in the bedrock from so high up. When you're right on top of it, you don't get the full picture.
Wow, you had a fantastic day kayaking. The water was so clear and a lovely sound. Love the Ariel shots and amazing to see the bedrock formations and from beneath. Great day and a great video. Thank you Rob
Yes, I had an awesome day. It's nice to be able to share it with others.
thank you so much for another interesting rock hunt! I love the aerial shots!!! I was amazed at how clear the water is. I always look forward to your videos.
I'm having a ball with the drone.
Beautiful, love the sound of the water and birds. Aerial views! Just took a mini vacation!
That was cool going snorkeling, too!
I really had fun making this one.
@@MichiganRocks What and beautiful and secret place! So many Petoskey stones! Like you said, The Mother Lode.
Great to see such clean water and litter free shoreline! A very beautiful place!!!
This area is pretty clean. It helps a lot that there are no public access points anywhere near here.
Beautiful shots under the water, makes you want to go for a swim and look for some good rocks!
Just HEAVENLY
WATCHED AGAIN.....
😍😍😍😍😍
Just amazing stuff!
Wow, how stunning!
That was a good day. It was one of my first videos with drone shots too, so that was fun.
Stunning aerial views, thanks for sharing 😌🏴
It was really fun seeing those shots myself. Flying cameras are cool.

Water is so clear!!! Those fla rocks would be a great place to sit and cool off on a hot day!! Love watching you paddle over the various underwater formations!! Thank you for sharing!!
Who has time for sitting? I've got stuff to explore!
I love the snorkeling parts! Water ripples reflections are so soothing
I really liked this whole video. It's one of my favorites.
Wow, on the water, in the air and under the water rock hunting adventure. Well done!
I outdid myself that day.
I love your videos, good weather and not, sun or rain, they all make me happy.
Not too many in the rain. I shoot for nice days. Nice days make me happier than rainy days since I'm actually experiencing the weather first hand.
Nice amount of Petoskey stones and yup small chunk of puddingstone a keeper colors bright ! Hope the water was warmer than it looked !! Thanks for taking me along on this great rock hunt !!
The water was the perfect temperature for swimming, cool, but not cold at all. I could have stayed in for a long time.
Beautiful drone shots....amazing bedrock and snorkeling shots. Of course you found the motherlode!!!! They are really all amazing!!!
Thank you very much!
As usual, great video. I just found quite a mother load up near Old Mission Peninsula. I have some material to hand polish now and found a ton of great Unakite on Empire beach. Thanks for the vids man. They’re great.
I'm glad you're enjoying them! I have never hunted Old Mission Peninsula, but I was at Northport a couple weeks ago.
Not asking any question. Enjoying. Thanks again! GREAT areal shots. Congrats.
Good boy. Glad you enjoyed it.
great video love both the drone and snorkeling thank-you for sharing
You're welcome. I had a lot of fun with both the drone and snorkeling myself.
This was a great adventure ! I enjoyed it very much thanks Rob 🥰💐
You're welcome, Easter.
Love the sound of you gliding over the lake in your kayak. (And of course the rocks). A great video!
The water sounds seem to be very popular.
Hi - so glad you took us along for the ride ... such clear waters & so beautiful!
I'm glad you tagged along. It's nice to share it with everyone.
Thanks Rob, what beautiful petoskey stones.
There were some nice ones there.
Kayaking + Petoskey stones = Best time ever!
Those are two things that go well together.
So peaceful! I pray you always stay safe.
I’m pretty cautious. I always make sure the weather is going to be good before taking long kayak rides like this.
Beautiful aerial and underwater views! Thank you for all the time and effort! 😁😁
You're welcome. It's a little more effort, but I love the results so far.
Thank you so much for this video. Stunning!!! Thank you for all of your videos. I have learned so much ❤️
You're welcome!
This so reminds me of my Michigan childhood late 50's and early 60's. I sure wish we had known then what I do now. My brother was into jewelry making. Today I live inland about 50 miles south of the bridge and I've found many Petoskey stones, etc., on my property. I need to polish some. Thanks
I just love polishing Petoskeys. The change so much and look awesome when done.
Mesmerizing underwater footage
Absolutly beautiful 💖💖💖
I really liked this video a lot. It was one of the first times I used my drone in a video, so it stands out to me.
Wonderful! Three ways to enjoy the lake; on it, under it, and high above it!
Fun wasn't it?
Awesome vid.....looks like a lot of fun
I had a ball.
I lived in Michigan as boy and loved to hunt for petoskeys. Took me back, loved the cold, clear, fresh water and the calm sense of exploration. Thank-you. Made my day.
Glad to make your day. It wasn't a half bad day on my part either!
What a beautiful area and fossil heaven. Wow. TFS 💖🦅🦅
You're welcome!
Wow! That was very cool!
I really enjoyed that day.
Nice! I enjoyed this a lot. Got me primed for 2 nights at Negwegon next week. I hope the rock hounding gods will be smiling on me.
Hunt to the north. I didn't find a single rock to the south. I think you'll have a lot of fun there.
Ahhhhh, I could watch this all day. Makes me homesick for my beautiful Door County. It’s nice to finally know what a petosky stone is. I found them as a child and thought they were fossilized honeycomb. Coral. Sometimes they have crystal in those little holes. Thank you
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Suzanne. It's one of my favorite videos. that was a really nice day on the water.
Really enjoyed this! Thanks for sharing
This is one of my favorite videos. I'm glad you liked it too.
WONDERFUL DAY, MR! Love the view from the air, seeing the shapes in the water (did you notice the big round areas?), as well as ‘under the seas. Someone mentioned the light play along bottom rocks- I agree it was super cool. Need to dust off my kayak and get it down to TC. My younger daughter has well and truly caught the ‘bug’ now- she revealed a new, running rock tumbler to me yesterday! On her second load, no less! 😂 Thanks fo the great day, Rob! Rock on!😁
Kayaking is a ball. I should do more of it than I do. I did notice those circles in the aerial shots. I don't know what causes them. Cool, whatever they are. Something I would have never noticed without the drone.
"Marquette Guy" here again. Your trip and how calm it is reminded me of a picture I took of me and my nieces standing on the ice of lake superior near the welcome center in Marquette. The water was freezing early that year I think june or july lol.... kidding of course... We walked out and you could see all the way to the bottom through the ice. After developing the pictures, (we had to wait a week back then to see what we captured) so all the younger viewers know what I mean by developing pictures... lol.... again... The pictures of us on the ice looked as though we were standing on the water itself. With our coats off and the way the sun and sky were clear and sunny and no snow at that point it was a really neat picture.
Well, another "Marquette Guy" story and you have outdone yourself again in this video. Imagery is so clear and the colors are breathtaking.
I grew up on an inland lake near here and remember the lake freezing like that one time. We ice skated as far as we wanted to. I remember seeing pike take off under me. Too bad that doesn’t happen more often. I’m sure you saw the video of people ice skating around the ore dock last winter when the ice froze clear.
So beautifu!! The colors in the water is amazing. I feel like I've been on vacation.
Short vacation!
@@MichiganRocks I can always watch again.
@@aliencat11 True!
Very pleasant ride along.
Thanks for coming. Next time, could you help with the paddling, please?
Michigan Rocks Oh oh, now you’ve gone to far. 😂😂 Actually I wish I could. We have two kayaks, my hubby has a sea kayak and we have a Sea Eagle inflatable. Have a good weekend.
Footage from above, below and at sea level, that was just a fabulous video. I very much enjoyed that and thank you for sharing it. I can't get over how clear and blue the water is, just amazing.
I think the water is a lot more clear since invasive zebra muscles have been filtering it. I don't think that's actually a good thing, but it sure is pretty.
Haven’t finished video but loved seeing you kayaking and hearing the water. I love kayaking
The most fun stuff in this video is yet to come.
Loved the video. Great spot to explore.
It sure was!
I just love your videos!
My wife and I were inspired by your videos, and we just returned from a vacation to St. Ignace. We live in Ohio, and it’s been years since we ventured to beautiful Michigan. We gathered some rocks from Huron, Michigan, and up near White Fish Point on Superior. We found a couple Petosky stones, but Huron was pretty rough and it was hard to go too far out wading. But we had a blast. I watched your video on tumblers, and that’s our next project. Thanks for your videos!
I’m glad you enjoyed your vacation and were able to find some rocks. Good luck tumbling them!
I love these stones! They are new to me so I’m excited!
Also, that water is so clear, my gosh!
I pick up a lot of Petoskey Stones, so if you watch many of my videos, you'll see quite a few. There's a really nicely polished one in tomorrow's very short video.
Love the petoskey motherlode video! 👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
It's one of my favorites. That was a really fun day.
Beautiful 😊 thank you for sharing 😊🌻🌻👍.

I sure think so.
What a nice video, as always! My granddaughter and I look forward to the rocks in a box every Tue! The banded chert is a fave of hers, she's found 3 and the turtle making. Hopefully you will still have time for videos once school resumes. Staying tuned....
Somehow, I never missed a week last school year, but this school year might be a new challenge.
Beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Totally gorgeous scenery.
So many lovely stones.
I was out hunting for my favourite storm Agate in our local river, Tukituki Nz.

I love that you have a drone. This video is just beautiful. Pure Michigan !
I love it too. It adds a nice change of perspective.
The underwater video with the sunlight reflected water top ripples ON the bottom ……
Some of THE MOST stunning brilliant film work I’ve seen by ( so called ) amateurs on CZcams in my 12 years of viewing
Bravo 👏 Good Rocker
Bravo 🤘
That's quite a compliment, thank you. The one thing that I haven't been happy with in my small number of underwater shots is the speed at which I swim. In real life, I'm not going very fast. But on the video it looks way too fast. I need to learn to slow down and pan the camera more slowly.
Love the drone footage, MI is so beautiful I can't wait to get there next week!
Have a good trip!
The water is so clear!!!!
I would just like to say thank you for inspiring me to start rock tumbling and create some beautiful things
You're welcome. I love when people start tumbling rocks because of my videos. Good luck!
The water is amazingly clear!
Yes, it’s very clean. We are lucky to have such nice lakes.
Fantastic footage -- aerial, on the water, and underwater. What a great kayak trip! You found some amazing keepers and lucky for the next rockhound who comes along to pick up the "rejects". A terrific day for you and for us -- great video.
I thoroughly enjoyed that day.
@@MichiganRocks Can completely understand why -- those are the ones that are good for the soul.
I have watched 2 straight hours of your videos! I really enjoy watching what you do!
Wow, that's a a marathon. Some people can't make it through one!
Thanks for letting me kayak/rock pick vicariously. I haven't taken my boat out yet this summer. It's easier to pretend, as your yak is the same color as mine. Love the addition of the drone. The aerial shots were so entertaining!
Summer will be over before you know it. Get that boat in the water!
A really good video, very much enjoyed it, it felt a bit like being on holiday! Like your drone shots - it was lovely to see the strata underwater and also some of the VERY interesting formations/patterns of bigger rocks that would not be visible otherwise. Glad you got to go for a swim! Something to remember when there are mounds of ice and snow on your winter sorties! I did wonder if you ever got the opportunity to swim in such an amazing place as the lakes you show. Great rocks too! 😉👌🌳🐚🌞🚣🏻🛶🏊♂️⛰
I have gone in the water in a couple other videos. It's not something I normally do, but once in a while I get in. If the water was always as warm as it was that day, I'd be in more often!
Thanks for sharing. It's really awesome... We are going picture rocks next week. Hope will find some beautiful rocks..
You're not actually allowed to take the rocks from the Pictured Rocks National Park with you. However, if you go to Grand Marais and east, you can collect rocks legally. Have a fun trip. That's a beautiful place.
@@MichiganRocks Thank you for informing me. Will be also going whitefish and Marquette...
Awesome video me and the 3 sons loved it.
I'm glad. Get those boys out collecting some rocks. I bought my son a rock tumbler one Christmas. He lost interest in tumbling after a couple years, but still loves rocks. I never did lose interest.
