This crossing is very interesting. It's the only old West German style crossing left in former West Berlin. But the railway network in West Berlin was owned by the East German DR, and not the DBB or BVG. One would think that DR would instal it's own railway crossing equipment, like they did with signals and switches, but apparently West Berlin was responsible for the railway crossing equipment

this is because level crossings are dictated by the StVO (German Highway Code), and the one in effect in West Berlin was, naturally the West German highway code, even if the railway was owned by the Deutsche Reichsbahn. so i imagine they just asked the supplier of West German crossing equipment to install them here instead of WSSB.
by the way, this isnt the only old one left, theres two others, but only one is still functional.
