How To Fix 4runner Automatic Windows After Disconnecting Battery

- If you're wondering why your 4runner's power automatic windows stopped working after you disconnected your battery, here's why. It's a quick and easy fix that Toyota calls "normalizing" the windows. It's just a matter of reteaching it the fully open and fully closed positions. This needs to be done for the driver's window, sunroof, and rear window.
Sunroof:
Press the button to tilt the sunroof up and hold it until it drops back down a bit. Now close it and cycle the whole sunroof all the way open and closed with one touch to make sure the auto function is working.
Rear Window:
Press and hold the button to lower the window all the way down to the bottom. Now hold it to raise it all the way back up and continue holding it for an extra second at the top. Check the auto function to make sure it's working now.
Driver's window:
Same idea as the rear window. Hold the button to lower the window all the way down, then raise it back up and continue holding for an extra second. Make sure the auto function is working with one touch now.
It's that easy. This should only take 2 minutes to do, but it needs to be done whenever you've disconnected the battery. So if your automatic windows have stopped working, try doing this before you freak out :).

I just bought a 2009 4runner V8 4wd sport edition. Only one for sale in all southern california! I purchased it with money from another 06 2wd v6 4runner that was totaled about a month ago .. I still have the totalled truck and I was about to replace the Rear window motor as I thought it was malfunctioning until I ran into your video. Brother you save me a hell of a lot of time and Unnecessary swap LOL😅
Replaced the rear hatch actuator/lock on my '05 4Runner, hooked up battery..cycled power to windows and sun roof wouldn't open. Watched your vid and on the first try and it was golden. Thank you!!
That worked on my 5th gen 4runner too. My battery died so I boosted it. But anytime I boosted it before, the windows were not affected until now. Just my rear side windows by the way

Thanks! I just bought a 2005 4Runner and the five year old cheap battery died the next day. I replaced the battery. I also received two remote fobs and I thought the programming didn't work because lock and unlock worked but the rear window didn't. I'm still learning about the new-to-me 4Runner.

2017. Going outside to try this now after a battery replacement yesterday. Front passenger window doesn’t move with driver switch. On passenger switch.

My 2003 rear window opens with the fob but won't close. I can open and close it with the key in the rear door. The dash switch doesn't do squat.
Other windows work normally. Looks like I'm screwed.

Edit: You're right about the AGM batteries. I use them in my tow vehicle and travel trailer. When not in use, I keep them on a battery trickle charger/maintainer.

(2022/4/1) Thanks CG! Worked for my 2007 4-Runner. One-touch auto window down quit working after I had to have the battery disconnected for about 10 min (for other reason).

I just had to do this on my 5th gen. Only my front windows had to be reset and there was no sticker in the engine bay. Thank for the video!
Save me ton of money & ton of work. Toyota dealer told me to replace the master switch or take out door panel to find the broken wire or short somewhere.

Just bought a new 4Runner... my first Toyota. Compared to my 2007 FORD ESCAPE I can’t believe the horrible engineering fuck ups!!! I bought it for the looks but most likely my first and last Toyota EVER. The premium stereo in my ford was WAY better than Toyota’s equivalent. No power to the outlets unless the key is on?!?!?!? What a fucking joke. The seatbelt indicator blinks and sings when I have my DOG in the car!! My Ford didn’t do that!! Toyota had me thinking they were the bomb but they blew it.
A year late but definitely because it took 3.5 minutes of useless information to get to the necessary part

HELP!!!! Your videos are great. I love my 1997 4runner Ltd with 240k also. I want keep it runner forever. Can you help me with one issue that I can't solve. My passenger door window only goes down but not up. I have replaced the window motor already but it is still having the same issue. I tried both driver and passenger side buttons, checked the fuse but they both can't bring the window up. Can you give me a few pointers in troubleshooting the issue. Thanks.

Btw I changed my rear passenger switch to the front and it worked. It goes up and down, not a final solution but at least I was able to close the window.

Couldn't go to sleep, had to mess with the window.
After trying many combinations, I found out that I had to cycle the key, on and off, open the door, play with the driver's window switch and then the rear window would go up and down with the rear window switch in the dash.
But wait, I'll be programming two new key fobs tomorrow. We'll see how much I can screw things up.

This is a long shot here but I have been plagued by a driver side window issue for over a month now. I have replaced my master switch, replaced regulator/motor and checked all fuses to no avail. All other power windows work from the master switch. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
