This guy seems very kind and wholesome. I hope you have a very blessed life.

Add an extra gear at the opposite side of the lift hill chain around the motor area, so the gears can wrap around the chain with much more of its teeth 🦷 Just look at the gears of a typical mountain bike to see what I mean

I was going to suggest exactly this. Its not that the plastic wheels cant drive it, its that the chain can jump off the teeth since theres nothing truly holding it down.

Okay this is a really simple change but i just wanna know if it works… switch out the red rods that hold the trains in place for shorter yellow rods.
The red rod doesn’t need to block the whole front of the train, just a small part of the wheel. If there’s less rod blocking the train, less rod has to be pushed out of the way and against the weights.
Since less rod needs to be pushed, you can move that chain with the lever just slightly further away from the arrow, so less time has the lever pressing the arrow thus creating less friction.
If that doesn’t work let me know and i’ll keep thinking of other solutions, but just try that first cause it’ll take two minutes.

what part is slipping, the chain or the little tabs that hold the gears to the rods, if its the chain on the gear then its probably because you need to wrap the chain around the gears more, they look like they are only on a few teeth.

The main slippage occurs with the little tabs. Those things have been my enemy ever since the Star Wars coaster launch!

Make the start longer. Like, push the bar further back, add more chain, and maybe use the spacers if you can

Could you use a rubber band or other tension to return the gates to the starting position rather than the weights?

  • @connormartin12

So the large knex chain and gear system is horrendous for any weight added to the trains. They slip a lot and get stuck a lot.
Recently I switched to using micro chain with the single black gears. The chain wraps sooo much better around micro chain and allows for lifting of more weight.
Based on what you have the friction and weight shouldn’t be causing any problems especially if you’re using a drill. I would try the micro chain and make sure you’re getting good connection between the chain and gears.
