- I decided to go with the cobbles because of this little building as it was clashing with the tops of the loco's. which many of you tubers have also high lighted in the past. so the ground was raised, all I have done to this building is add a LED and a 2mm card to add some extra height. and cut down one end. as it gave more in room in front of the shed, and it was also curled up slightly. I happy with the finished result. it was a fiddly little job to do. but well worth it .Happy Modelling....Happy Easter.
That area looks very good. Weeds around the concrete bases, a nice touch and not too heavy.
Barry.Devon
Thank you Barry. I try not to over do the weeds and weathering. yes the diesel yard coming along nicely. and its almost there. I'm finding it hard to find figures to match the period at the moment. thank you for commenting regards Tony
HI Tony great video of installing the Led light to your fuelling depot. i was toying with the idea of buying the bachmann fuel points, but have since decided to scratch build my own version. with a couple of old peco fuel pumps added in, i will be looking at introducing the lights as it does make it stand out more. i just need to see weather to use my micro LED lights or some of the type you have used. Dave
thank you for commenting, Dave i think it would be better to scratch build one at least the height will be right and it will made to suite what you want...it will be interesting to see it completed. many thanks sorry for the delay in getting back to you Tony
Looking good
Cheer's, thanks again Tony
Nice work Tony, I have one of these fulling points so may try it. Keep up the good work.
Cheer's John, if going to have a go take your time feed the cables through first before soldering the LED. all the best Tony. Happy Modelling
Looking good Tony, I think U need some hard standing either concrete or more cobbles between the tracks in front of the loco shed for about the length of a loco, just a suggestion, would just finish of nicely
Cheer's Greg, I'm looking into using some planking for in between the tracks, thank you for the suggestion most welcome. cheer's Tony
A very interesting update, Tony. The yard is coming together really well and the service unit looks great. The lights are very atmospheric for the night running. All the best....Tom
Thank You Tom. I think I might need to add another Lamp just before the fueling point....thanks again Tony
Nice one Tony. I will be pinching your method of lighting the fuelling point! I've for some of those yard lamps. They look better painted matt. Cobbles are spot on. Cheers
Yes your right Alan the lamps are to shinny. may need to matt them up. its something I never noticed before thanks for that regards Tony
A smashing job you've done there Tony. Your diesel depot does look the part. Loving it! Susannah
Thank you Susannah, Happy Easter best wishes Tony
Two great videos Tony and hands up I've copied you and used your advice to make a small yard using brick ! Water colours I've used but your advice and how to 's really are fantastic. Thank you, Jerry
Cheer's Jerry, how does yard small yard look, using the brick sheets. will you be putting a video of the new yard as it will be interesting to see. thanks again. best wishes Tony
TONY NORTH EASTERN I'll shoe it on the next update, like you pointed out and did on yours, needs a bit of green but a brick base looks OK!! Hear it's cold up there, take care Jerry
Hi Jerry, I'm looking forward to seeing how the brick version turns out as it may look good in a cattle yard....it wet and cold down hear... take care Tony
TONY NORTH EASTERN won't be as good as yours Tony! Cheers mate, Jerry
I do like the fueler, I have one on my layout. The problem I had is that the locos touch the top of it if your track is to close together. I lifted mine with balsa wood but ideally want to blend the base of it with the concrete floor around it. I guess you can't have it all...good modification to yours though well done.
Hi , Bachmann have made a cock up here with the canopy not being the right height, that's why I raised the ground with the cobbles then adding 2mm card just to make sure. you could bring the floor level to the top of the rails that would work there's many ways of doing this. Polly filler. plastic sheets, card...good luck with what ever you try to do....thanks again Tony
TONY NORTH EASTERN yes I agree, I might paint the base of it the same as my shed floor and it may blend better
Great job, makes a big difference adding the lights. I did some light fitting on some N-scale buildings, and it's worth taking the time to paint over the wires like you did, too. Looks great. Iain
Hi Lain, by adding lights just gives the layout that little something extra. by painting over the soldered joints just adds that little bit of protection as well. but really they should be sleeved if you can get the really small heat shrink.. Newcastle Central is looking good, are you from Newcastle, as I'm from south shields. all the best Tony
Yeah, I try to heat shrink where I can, but paint still helps cover up and make it look a little neater.
I'm grew up in Durham, then went to college in Gateshead and lived around Low Fell. I've lived in the US since 2006, but really wanted my layout to be familiar territory. So, I decided to go with Newcastle Central as I mostly like running passenger trains :) Iain
The depot is looking great Tony..I have two of these and nearly binned them. Both roofs were squint and I broke one trying to straighten it, also they were catching on the loco roofs. I've decided to keep them and try and improve them though, as think it would be better than buying new ones.... Mark
high Mark you could add a concrete base made out of card, to the base of the fuelling point, but you need to raise about 6mm to miss the roofs of the loco's. thank you for commenting regards Tony
I bought one of those a few years back , and yes they are fiddly , your small light added makes it look better ..
thank you Dave I hope you have been busy on the railway that area your working look far better. plus you have gained a station.......happy Easter Regards Tony
Looking good tony, wont be long and you'll be finished in this area cheers Beeton Hough Junction ( Dave C)
that's true the depot is coming to a end soon. hopefully after the Easter Break it will be finished....Cheer's Dave all the best Tony
TONY NORTH EASTERN i will be keeping an eye for how you do the wallking, i mentioned your channel in a video i uploaded yesturday and in the middle of doing the wall kit bashing it alittle so hopefully ill have it uploaded by next week, keep up the great work 👍🏻 Beeton Hough Junction (Dave C)
Well explained video I understood it
Lovely work
Keep safe ARP
Cheer's Adi buddy happy Easter. all the best Tony
Great modification there Tony. I have the same fuelling point so will certainly have a go at doing the same to mine. Cheers, Jamie
Hi Jamie I didn't get a chance to catch up with you at Basingstoke. maybe next time if you are out and about, have a go with the feulling point my advice would to use a smaller LED. the one I used was a 3mm warm white but it looks more like yellow. thanks again for commenting regards Tony
You're welcome Tony. I'm sure the chance will come round again soon to catch up a little longer. I'm some way off working on the TMD, but I will certainly refer back to this video when I do. Thanks again....Jamie
That'll be good. to catch up best wishes Tony
Nice job Tony. That grey track just doesn't look quite right to me. I think there would be cobbles between the tracks or there would be a lot of brown and oily black on the ballast.
Cheer's Ray. I'm going to put some wooden planking between the rails as I have plenty of that left from the level crossing. I still need to darken the tracks inside the shed area....thanks again Tony
Again brilliant tony
Cheer's it worked out well I nearly gave up on it. needed all my patience for that little mod. many thanks Tony
Great work on the fuel point Tony, I think 'Express Models' sell or used to sell a working strip light similar to what you removed from the fuel point canopy.
The 'helping hands' you are using for holding the led and resistor looks really sturdy, I have the type with a magnifying glass fitted which is quite wobbly, where did you get yours from please Tony?
Great video
Michael
HI Michael I have 2 sets of those helping hands. my original set came from squire's they a utility store on the Web where you can buy all sort's of craft tools. the other set was a gift from a friend. the canopy came from TMC about two years ago...so it has take a while to get round to doing the mod on the fuel point. all the best Tony
Mechnisevant job!!!!
Thank you Anton. a little bit tricky do. many thanks Tony
Hi Tony, yet another job well done!. Are all of your LED's 12v and on the same ring main?, and if so what do you use to power it?. Happy Easter. .................Les.
Hi Les yes all the lights at Tyne Dock the diesel yard and Pelaw Junction. all run of 1 transformer, 230-12v 300m amp 50z. I have 2 at the moment one on each side of the layout. but the engine may have to run of a 15v transformer. probably down to fact I have 6 LEDs in there at the moment. I need to look at it again today. Thank you regards Tony
Hi Tony nice adaption on the Diesel pumps and they look like they have had plenty of uses looks lots of diesel spill on the panels, did you scratch build your loco shed Tony , looks well all lit up at night. Regards George.
Hi George. the engine shed is a Bachmann Pre - cast Model. I don't think I would have had time to build one from scratch, the final baseboard will have scratch built buildings. to match what had existed in and around 1960s. which a a long way of at the moment as you have seen in the last few videos the track on the upper level eventually lead to a terminus station. thanks again George.....cheer's Tony
Hi Tony thanks for your reply I have no doubts that when you get to that stage everything you make will look & fit in as good as anything 'pro' made or anything shop bought. Regards George..
Bit of an overkill with your cable size for one LED maybe, but nice job overall.
Cheer's its the smallest cable I had 0.8mm. but as you say it worked out ok.....thanks again Tony
Hi Tony, on the loco shed did he vents and ladder work come with the building or did you buy them in, if so where from mate.
Hi the loco shed what you see is what you get. the only thing I added was some signs and posters. so the vents and ladders are already fixed. all the best Tony
