I got a 5800x3D and honestly I just wanted to finally get a CPU that wasn't used or low end. I went from AMD A6 5400K > Athlon 860k > Ryzen 3 1200 and now finally Ryzen 7 5800x3D. As you can expect the jump from the performance compare to my previous cpu was nuts! I don't think I need to upgrade now for a long time and that's what I wanted!
i have good memories from my 860k, i gave it to my nephew and he still uses it for basic stuff and old games, it was supercheap and really good
i went from FX 6300 > I7 3770 > R7 5800x . I got my 5800x right before it was rumoured the x3d was thought to become a thing. Still happy with my CPU not going to upgrade for a long time.

It's cool that you gave it to your nephew. It's better then giving him a budget laptop that has a celeron cpu. I would have stuck with mine if it weren't the fact it burnt out from overclocking. I put some serious stress on that poor cpu.

8700k still running strong in 2024. Built this for a fair price in 2018, what a great long lasting setup.
I've had a pretty good gaming experience on my 7950x3d aside from getting TWO defective motherboards in a row. One MSI and one ASUS. Once I got things up and running the performance has been great and the user experience has been fine. I've only had time to play some games in my library but the performance in game has been exceptional so far. I haven't had to mess with anything for core affinity. Game bar has mostly been doing its job handling that for me. Its paired with an RTX 4090 and 64GB of 6000MHz CL 30-36-36-36-96 ram and it has no issues except in Elden Ring which I am convinced is cursed because it randomly hitches on every PC I own. I gave up troubleshooting that game because every single other game I have runs flawlessly. Elden ring loves to hitch about 1-3 times an hour but I'm convinced it is the game not my rig at this point.
Thank You. You made my life easier.
Another great one bro! I think this confirms my opinion of buying what is the best deal for you. I applaud the person who can tell 100fps from 120 fps. Intel's problem is power and underclocking is your friend for which my man here has a great guide . Fanboyism over products is for kids (which admittedly I too was once). BTW I rocked AMD for 20 years. Currently rocking an underclocked 12700k . Peaks at 130w under multithreaded cinebench, never seen it go above 80w for my daily workloads. For reference My R53600x before that regularly hit 90-100w under same loads with much less throughput. Got the board and the cpu at a killer value and that closed the deal. I intend to ride it out for a couple more gens
I am still running a 9900K, Looking at both 7950X and the new 14th Gen I9 for content creation but with Heat and instability issues I see im not sure what to get :D
Hello Brian, is it prudent to invest in a "new" CPU at this moment when upcoming models are on the horizon? These forthcoming CPUs are expected to integrate features tailored for AI tasks that current models lack. While some heavy AI tasks will still rely on GPUs, some may be optimized for CPU processing, benefiting budget-friendly laptops and PCs with integrated graphics.
Lately, there's been a noticeable price reduction in the latest CPUs, which seems like a strategy to clear stock before the next leap in technology. Features such as enhanced AI capabilities in gaming, video editing, and system navigation could render older CPUs obsolete/undesirable, hence the push to sell them at lower prices now.
Thanks.
I recently went from i7 9700k to 7800x3d, knowing that am5 will support at least 2 more generations. I'd say buy now, and if there is a big enough difference in performance and efficiency in the upcoming cpus, then you can decide if you want to buy it or not
if i were going for a new platform, now, i wouldnt go for anything lower that the 7800x3d, if the price is low enough, perhaps is a good idea if you find a deal
knowing that future cpus will focus in stuff i dont need or want like ai cores or pci express 5.0, new cpus from here on in at least 4 years do not matter much to me tbh
I have a slightly overclocked 14700k, is there a way to replicate "Out of Video Memory" errors? I just want to check.
I'm wanting to upgrade my cpu from the Ryzen 7 3800X, just not sure if I should focus on gaming performance or get something better for productivity. I tend to game more than make videos, so the 5800X3D would be a great choice, but having the option with the 5950X is still tempting. Alternatively, I could always wait to see what the next generation of cpus brings us. Decisions, decisions.
Process Lasso for 7950x3d and preffer frequency cores, is a must for this CPU. I'm really happy with it, but I always recommend everyone to get 7800x3d for ease of use.
But "regular guy" just opens a box and "drops" 14900k into motherboard... 😂😂
The best part of the video was the last 3 minutes! TYC gives you all the information and then puts everything in context.
Setting games to 1080p on ultra settings tells you everything you need to know about gaming in 2024. My recommendation for choosing gaming system would be to start with the monitor's resolution and refresh rate. Once that is done, add 20% (for a bit of future proofing) and select your graphics card. The rest of the components just need to keep the graphics card fed. Again, this is just for a gaming system.
Still on main 12900KF 4090, raids like a champ. Everything is performing great but AM5 surely would be the choice today. I scored great deals when I built but I'm not touching the newer i7/i9s with game instability issues. Everything is running great on Steam with Nobara Linux 39 (KDE), though I still have spare Windows installs around 10/11, don't miss 11. Have a 7800XT and 7900XTX this gen, probably should have spent extra to go AM5 last year but oh well. I can carry my DDR5 forward and well 7800X3D is a great cpu here, 7950X3D if only both CCDs had 3D vcache, if there's a 9950X3D with that, that would be amazing.
still using a 5600x that's keeping my rtx4090 down like a fat kid on a slide.

My previous PC - Ryzen 1500x, 16GB DDR4, GTX 1080 from 2018 to my actual one in 01/2023: i7 13700kf, 32GB DDR5 6000 CL30, RX 7900 XTX. Back in January 2023 I decided to go with i5 13600kf and not with 5800x3d, because in this case intel was the better overall performance in gaming and workloads - 7800x3d was not released yet. Later I got an offer for i7 13700kf for a very good price, that is why I got the i7 now and sold the i5. From todays perspective the 7800x3d is the best in gaming and if the CPU would be released earlier, I would go with AMD in any case. The i7 13700kf is a performance beast and also very good in gaming. However in this generation I stick with Intel, because i7 13700kf vs 7800x3d is not massive performance difference in gaming in 4k 120hz.
7800x3d is £300 in the uk, I’ve just upgraded to it, at that price it’s an absolute no brainer especially for games like rust which are cpu intensive
What hz are the cpus running at?
I built my latest PC for 1440p high refresh rate gaming (7800x3d, 4080 super, 48GB ddr5-6400 CL 32). But, given the hardware potential and plans on getting the 5090 when it drops, I just decided to replace my monitor from 27in 1440p 165hz to 32in 4k 240hz. Now I am wondering if I should have chosen a non-3d vcache cpu that scales better with memory... would probably have been better for other things given 4k gaming is mostly GPU limited. Oh well, I can upgrade to a Zen 5 cpu if its worth it. We'll see. Or, be set for a number of years given I won't be CPU bottlenecked for 4k gaming.
got 7600x, because upgrading and going high end on gpu first would give more performance in everything.
Its all about the display you want to push in the games you play TBH but that cpu is about as fast as old X3D.
Brian!
For 7950x3D , you need to make sure that the game is ONLY using the x3D chip. This way, it can be faster than 7800x3D
Here's how. Prior to game launch, you need to manually assign which CPU Threads the game will run on. But in this video, it seems that you leave it at default.
This is because not all Physical cores inside 7950x3D is connected to the 3DV-Cache . So when you manually assign the game to run on the Cores that can access 3DV-Cache, all other background tasks are automatically using the regular Cores. So it will be faster than 7800x3D
Yes I'm talking about all games
How can you do this manually? For example, MW3? I have a 7800x3d and a 7950x3d (I am planning to sell it because the performance was not like the 7800x3d, etc.).
@@ihabentabli you solved it yet? Sorry for late reply

7900 and 7950 x3d's restricted to same core as 7800x3d test. Same perfomance?
those cinebench scores must be stock settings i get 42186 on i9 14900ks and i seen someone had a score over 45000
You shouldn't need to force the prefer cache option on the 7950X3D because the driver will do that for games in conjunction with Xbox Game bar when a game is detected or manually flagged. The need for that driver is autodetected when you install the chipset drivers and have the R9 installed at the time. If you just swapped the R7 out for the R9, you would've never installed that driver in the first place. Forcing it in the BIOS just makes everything use the X3D CCD resulting in every other lightly threaded task being 8-12% slower.

i9-14900K extremely power hungry, instability issues and it is a dead platform with no more support and loses to the cheaper 7800X3D most of the time. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D has a great price, very efficient and easy to cool, AM5 will definitely have many more generations of CPUs. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is the best of both worlds for a price increase, it is great for workstation applications and amazing at gaming, for enthusiasts, and comes with the future proof AM5 socket and draws less power than the i9
Current Intel chips are duds
14900k should be manually overclocked anyway if you’re buying that chip, which would solve the instability problems.

and processor should not ask for extensive settings tuning in 21st century to guarantee stability
so in general high end 14th gen is a waste of silicon and should not have been either produced or intel should have accepted defeat and ensured that their CPU's are 100% stable from factory
3:12 What if I disable the non 3D Cache cores?
You get Ryzen 7 x3d performance at the price of Ryzen 9 x3d 😂
@@ceuser3555 Not necessarily. The core clocks are higher than the Ryzen 7, you don't have any of the scheduling issues, and you can re-enable them if you need all the cores like for video editing. I'd like to see the numbers for that.
@@MarcoGPUtuber still not worth the price difference. The better way of dealing with it is with process lasso where you assign the right apps to the right ccd and then you will fully benefit from having no other task sharing the load of the desired cpu cores.
@@ceuser3555 Again, I mentioned for those that create content, they might find it useful to disable the non cached cores when gaming.
@@MarcoGPUtuber Why not use every core that you paid for? You are missing out on performance. It’s a matter of using them efficiently. Too bad AMD couldn’t do it and we have to rely on 3rd party apps to do it.
I have 7900x3d couldnt afford the 7950x3d i still think 7900x3d is under rated
Although I agree instability is a big no no, comparing results with a cpu that is proven to be unstable on the settings you are using is not fair or genuine. Performance will certainly suffer if there is instability, even if it does not crash. My 14700k has taught me that much. I have no preference for either cpu, they both have their own strong points for sure, but I feel you should have tuned the intel clocks, voltage and ram to the best possible settings as that what everyone who buys a 14900k does. A 7800x 3d is virtually unaffected by ram speed and doesn't oc at all really but you should have shown both at their best, or at least on stable settings.
i5 13600k is the best hand down. You can overclock the i5 13600k to an i9 13900k's potential minus the multi-core potential, but still a champion, for WAY cheaper-- plus it's on sale since the "refreshes" came out. You can barely overclock an i9 since it's basically overclocked out of the box. There's like a 15 FPS difference between i5 13600k and i9 13900k (Which are basically the same as i9 14900k, i5 14600k) All this including less heat more or less same performance for a price savings of 300 dollars or more. This kinda makes it a no brainer in my opinion.
For context I have ''Never'' had a game launching issue with Fortnite on my 12900ks and I haven't seen any of these Intel issues on this CPU, So not needed to hold its performance back.
I recently upgraded from i5 13600k to i7 14700k which wasn't necessary based on my needs I just wanted the best CPU of current generation as i9 has instability issues. I'm happy with the purchase but the only thing I dislike about i7 is that it consumes way more power and generates a lot of heat so cooling is an issue. So I've manual undervolt(0.9mV) and underclocked(5.2 GHz) to get better results...
smart man, i kept my i7 at 5ghz
@@nivea878 also undervolt for cooler and quieter operations...
Intel really needs to reign in the motherboard-manufacturers. Them completely obliterating any efficiency and even destroying the CPUs is just hurting intel bigtimes.
But intel also allowed that to happen for too long.
V-Cache all the things! V-Cache Ethernet. V-Cache keycaps. V-Cache RGB AIOs. V-Cache on your V-Cache. V-Cache on your headphones...
I have the same PSU tester...think it's from enermax
Me chilling with an undervolted 13900KF : (insert ICarly's Interesting meme)
how much voltage that u was able to offset?
Same here. I could only muster +200Mhz on my 13700k so figured I'd just undervolt and run the fans at 40-50% instead. Dropped 60W in all-core workloads and in gaming I've yet to see it go above 110W.
10% bios decrease in performance hitting right in the CPU
can someone explain to me ...why is there over 170 countries where psn is not availible???
sony offers support for their network with servers to login and play, on the countries where is not offered, you can use a vpn or register giving another countty, i did that many years ago until my country was added to the list
considering most people will be gpu bound. non of these cpu matters.
rather put more money into the gpu than cpu.
Best value right now would be ryzen 7700, thats like 160 dollars on aliexpress with free shipping.
@Hawkfly-dq7gf I understand why he uses a 4090. He wants to ensure that the GPU isn't bottlenecking the results in any way. But it's hardly realistic for most people. I suggested in another of his recent videos that he ought to also redo the tests with whatever is considered an average gaming card these days. Easy for me to say, when it would mean more work for him. His results are correct, but to some degree they don't really matter.
you can test cpu also with ps3 emulation bro
i had 13600K, 14700K now 7800x3d because i wanted to test it. the i7 capt at 5ghz was 15 degress less than 7800x3d at 4,8 ghz. both are good, am5 also had bad issues, for my next probably go with Intel, i dont like the spider look from IHS on ryzen🤢
i feel like the temps of your 7800X3D are a bit high
mine never went above 75°c
With cinebench or other programs that max out every thread?
to be fair he is on australia, not sure if he uses ac, i hope he does for the reviews, also amd made these cpus to run hot, so, nothing special, but it soundd like you have a good cooler there, or good airflow in the case, what do you use?
@@mrm7058 i used cinebench only
@@betag24cn to be honest i have no idea, but i do have a very big case with lots of fans(my sister built it for me)
Honest question here. I love your content, and watch it on the regular, but why are you against going into the BIOS for the Intel CPU, yet you were fine with going into the BIOS for the Ryzen CPU to change the cache preference? You said 3 times that you cater for your audience which are just looking at the best out of the box performance, and you said that is why you dont want to change BIOS settings for the Intel, even if the game refuses to run @4:00, but then 3 minutes later @7:00 you change the BIOS settings for the Ryzen CPU to squeeze a bit more performance out of it? That's very misleading.
The Intel crashing issues have been identified and rectified, and that requires you to select a different profile, from the BIOS. If your stance was not to go into the BIOS at all, due to your audience, you shouldve left the 7950X3D CPU as it is. Very strange.
it is a general opinion people had about the 16 core wonder, it is a shared opinion from what i have seen so far and hasnt changed over the years
keep in mind that people complain for having to change parameters or disable cores when playing, then going back to bios to enable things to do work related stuff and then repeat when you want to play again
in intel is the same with the e cores, but people focus on amd for some reason
I would say, the best gaming CPU is one that works in all games. So that makes th competition down to two. The 7800X3D is clearly best Value for gaming, and maybe has better performance due to all 8 cores in one CCD chiplet (less latency than two chiplets). But the 7950X3D is still twice the CPU cores in total, so has twice the compute capability, if you also need superb workstation performance.
7800x3d its a BEAST, i use 45watt eco mode, -30 CO, locked 4.5GHZ. I get 500fps on cs2 at 52º so cold 🥶
i heard eco mode doesnt do anything for the 7800x 3d?
@@opinn90 it works deacreased my cpu watts in cs2 from 75watt to 63 watts. What probably dont work is the 65watt eco mode cause it has a higher wattage then the 65watt that the name 65watt sugest. Eco mode 45watt its real 63 watt so deacreases your temperature and mantain your cpu max clock, eco mode 65watt(its real 75watts to 90 watt i think so doesnt help 7800x3d at all)
