    Great video...I have to say that I really don't like the throw away mind set of people today...Motorized tools and vehicles need maintenance, buying new does not fix the lazy owner problem. It just makes for more things being thrown away that can be fixed. The truth is maintenance cost money and that is the cost of owning tools that get used.

    • @grattonland
      @grattonland Před 2 měsíci

      I totally agree with you on throw away mindset. I have an MS170 and I've spent the price of saw in repair/maintenance, not all in one shot. I'm hesitant to bring it to a shop and try myself with the help of videos like this. I managed so far, but I'm an IT guy, better at Googling for solutions.
      Bought an MS261 recently because I need to cut more wood and more frequently. Will still try to keep the MS170 going.

    Have you worked on any Stihl FS94R trimmers with vapor lock problems? I had 2 of those, & they’d get hard to start every summer when it got above 85-90 degrees. The only way I’d find to temporarily fix it was to crack the gas cap & release the pressure from inside the fuel tank. Thank you for your straightforward videos.

    nice idea using the dropper for the gas check. Thinking that Stihl will phase out the cheaper gas saws since cheap chainsaws from Amazon can be bought or an electric saw is more suitable for homeowner so they do not ruin the saw by neglecting proper gas maintenance

    Thank you so much for taking the time to go through all the air leak testing. 😊
    When you talked about time that the shop takes to get into these chain saws, that is why on my (MS-291) they put a label on there bench of as is sales product out in lobby of JD tractor sales business. Thay priced my MS-291 at $420 sold as is. The saw was damaged on handle bar behind the black hold down safety. Just cracked. ( I taped it up with Gorilla Tape) The sales guy at counter told me exactly what you said. There techs time to replace handle cover was not worth it, they could sell it as is. It was a new saw. I have never had a issue cutting with her. 😊 She cuts like a raped Ape 😊 compared to my (Sears) saw. I bought the sears because I liked the priming bulb, and the Price. But boy the Stihl cut so much faster and better for personal usage cutting up round stock on branches especially Harder wood. I have a tone of big branches, that took no amount of time with Stihl, 😊 the Seare saw was slowsr cutting. Just harder on my old back.😊😊 I wished lived closer to you, love the COIL test with feeler gage tool.

    When you get a compression tester for small engines, what adapters needs to come with it? I have some vintage equipment made in SAE measurements and newer gear made in metric. Perhaps an ignorant question but do I need adapters in metric and SAE? I see that some tools come with several adapters while others only have one or two.

    Question..I notice you put the chain brake on, every time before attempting to start a saw. Is this a Stihl safety protocol? Maybe just me and my woodcutting roughnecks have been overlooking this safety feature when starting, thinking this was just a kickback safety feature.
