Titan do you do any manufacturing or other products for companies or just educational purposes. I know you guys make some really cool stuff for everyone to see what the different machines will do.
I'm not a machinist but love what you guys do and teach in your shop. I have a automotive shop now and working on cars an trucks for over 40yrs now. I kinda wish I started as a machinist but found my way with what I do now an made a pretty good living doing it. Thanks for sharing stay safe guys

      Thanks Brother…
We pick and choose the right products to make… like we just made a crazy part that’s going to the Moon in partnership with Northrop and Firefly… couldn’t show it though.
So most of what we do is for education. We design our own true to life parts to teach legit machining techniques so all can learn and rise to Greatness😁 our call is to Inspire and Bring Awareness to our Industry… then teach ALL legit education so they can be pillars in their companies and put food and opportunities on their families tables…
      BOOM!

      @thomasmatuszak3916 Před rokem +6

Our school just purchased a Quaser MF400 5 Axis Mill. It is no where near the size of this Heller but for us it is a monster. It weighs over 18,000 pounds. The riggers that installed the machine had a similar fork lift that is in this video. My students were AMAZED at how it worked! Sometimes teaching how to operate CNC machines goes beyond the kids learning the actual machines! The technology and teamwork of the riggers was a lesson learned by many of them that we as teaches could never duplicate. The videos posted by Titan are incredible learning tools. I find my students watching them all the time and then having conversations about them! Thanks again Titan!

Started at GE gear plant in Lynn MASS around 83 or 84 AND only 3yrs out of high school. 2yrs later won the highest union pay rate and got involved in RD project for hardened high speed reduction gearing to be installed in ARLEIGH BURKE class destroyers. 7 axis cnc horz boring. Many manufacturing buildings sit along the Saugus river. This HBM used the steel plate floors as x table and besides that there was a large computer rotating table that moves in and out.
The foundation had 6 massive concrete legs going over 100ft to hard rock. 2 stories below the floor housed all supporting hardware and fluid system. The U.S. navy excepted the reduction gearing along with gas turbines specifically designed for each other. At this timeframe manufacturing was gone from the U.S. and ones that stayed had to go cnc

With regards to single pieces, clearly multiple pieces all have to have almost perfect interfaces and they all need joining in the best long term stress free way - so to make just a single big part is considerably best practice and it's usually the most low cost way as well. However, you need access to very large casting and really big and accurate machining capabilities. It really, really pays to keep skills and trades going, have some vision and guts and don't let the accountants or CFO outsource overseas just to temporary boost their stock option or bonus scheme.

I heard a term from a supervisor at a prototype casting shop I worked at for a few months. "You can fool the spectators but you can't fool the players." He was talking about how many people have "experience" on their resume and then come in and can't program like they said they could. Can't help but notice the term aerospace is thrown around so much. Just because something is for an aerospace company doesn't mean the components are necessarily anything different from a typical job shop. Aerospace companies need MGSE (mechanical ground support equipment) just as much as "aerospace" flight components. I just find it funny as someone in the industry to keep hearing this term like it's a unicorn. Same thing said to me by one of the best programmers I have ever met (shop foreman who was only a few years older than me when I was 21) about "aerospace" as a buzzword. That dude now makes mold parts and composite machining/engineering for military drones. Would love to tour the shop someday :). BOOM. You guys get to subsidize your shop growth with CZcams money plus education and tooling company sponsorships. It's the new way of making money. Internet money.

@@codygibson2809 not chiller, talking about the tool cooling not the spindle and electric cooling, although that is also a good option, we do it and instead of having 3 or 4 AC units per machine we have a central chiller, a lot less down time, but I'm taking about machines working 24/24 365, different realities. Tool cooling can be kept at amb temperature, what you could do is having the fine filtering and pumping centralised, also less parts to fail, and depending on how it is done (redundancy) less down time, the moving machines, it's just like with power and air, just another pipe

This is who you want setting up your precision machinery, rigid, humorless germans. 5-10 microns just to level the machine. Thats batshit nuts.

    Hi Titans,
I desperately need to know the what type of gloves you guys wear during machining. How effective are they in preventing small injuries.
I run a small production unit and have tried several locally available gloves for my guys. They either wear too fast, or are ineffective or create obstacles for precise hand movements. It'd be great help if you suggest some types. Thanks.
    Big fan of your channel.

Truthfully, I am not a fan of gloves in precision machining. Any loose clothes or added fabric that gets close to a spindle is a problem. Also, gloves carry chips and particles that transfer onto jaws, vises etc…
Nothing cleans a part or jaw surface better than the human hand. So we work meticulously and precise and in 17 years of having a shop we have only has tiny minor cuts happen. If my guys are away from a CNC and are transporting raw or sharp material etc.. then they use gloves.
Now precision machining is different than fabricating. They are different worlds… with different tolerances. Fabricators often use gloves.
      Thanks for the nice comment,
      Titan

Totally agree. Most guys prefer naked hands including me. But a few 30+years loyal operators have developed skin issues due to coolants/oils etc and have trouble working under those conditions.
They usually work on good old traubs (production over ultra precision) and some guys need for thread rolling where components get crazy hot but can't wait for it to cool down due to time losses and sometimes have to run the machine w/o coolant during rework. So the use cases are specific and miscellaneous and not throughout the shop. Just trying to look out for my guys. And btw you'd love to know my shop has more than 60% plus women workforce. So need to keep that in mind too.
Anyway, thanks for your prompt response. Best wishes.
