- GarageBand tempo change hack in iOS (iPhone/iPad)
Have you ever wanted to have a song in GarageBand iPhone or GarageBand iPad with more than one tempo?
Well, it's possible, but it's a bit of a clunky hack, so in this video I'm going to show you how to get it done if you really want to have multiple tempos in your GarageBand projects.

CANT WAIT to see this, Pete! GREAT STUFF!! THANKS SO MUCH YOU'RE A LIFESAVER!!! I FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO GIVE BIRTH to my baby and share him with the world!
Hello Pete . Just wanted to ask you whether if it’s possible to slow down an mp3 backing track I’ve downloaded on GarageBand iOS ? I need to slow it down to learn the notes . Please do reply . Thankyou 😄
Dunno if anyone cares but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my brother recently :)
@Wilder Misael definitely, have been using InstaFlixxer for months myself =)
i'm adventuring myself in garageband and for every doubt that i have, there is a video from this channel. you're a life saver, dude! thanks and keep it up!
Nice one! Glad to hear that the videos are helping. I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
This is something I think I brought up a while ago - you have the ability to create sections so it would make sense to then also be able to change tempo/time signature alongside those sections.
Yep. Would be great if we had a way to actually use a different tempo and time signature in each section for sure. Fingers crossed for a future update!
Apple has a "feature request" page... I submitted this as a suggestion for GB for iOS... I imagine it’d be helpful if others put in the same request!
Yeah, I came across this video (& your channel) because I need some 3/4 measures in my predominantly 4/4 song. Cut time or slowing down to 1/2 speed mid song seems easier than this challenge.
@@aloysiusinc5875 how ?
@@maarelizaldeUsing the same technique as the video, it is a little easier to divide or multiply a tempo by two. However, my best solution came when I got the Mac version of GarageBand where you are able to change tempos and I made the MP3 piece take 3/4 (or 75%) of the time of the regular tempo.
Few years ago i had this problem when i making a song and quit. Now I got hired to record a song and you just saved my life mate! Thanks so much for the knowledge! ❤️

Thanks for this, Pete! When I’m writing new songs or covering a song that has a tempo change it’s a challenge for me, because the first tracks I usually record are the drums and the bass. If my primary instrument was the drums, it would be no big deal, but since I’m still a non-expert drummer, I usually start by using one of the digital drummers to get the rhythm and time signature right for the whole song and then record the bass line so I can build the rest of the song on that. Once all the other components are in place, I play the drum parts so I add add fills to emphasize specific riffs or vocal elements just as if I were playing with other musicians. I will occasionally do the same thing with other instruments, but that’s a bit of a challenge if the song you’re recording has three tempo changes! Thanks for this tip! You just saved me the time of figuring it out myself. 🤗
Nice one. Thanks for sharing. Yes, determining tempo can certainly be a challenge at times.
OH MY GOD THANK YOU SM
You’re very welcome my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel and consider subscribing. 👍
Great tips as always. I did something similar a couple of days ago where I wanted to create a chord progression using Loops. In my attempt I selected a Loops vocal piece, saw it was in Cmaj, drug it to a blank track. Next I selected Create Document to record a new song. I drug the very same Loops piece as before but chose a different key this time. I next selected this new track and used the Merge function to turn it into a wav file (?), copied it and pasted it into/onto the first ‘song’. Worked like charm. This is a cool way to create a chord progression when no other musical instruments are available. Just thought I’d share! 🤪
Nice one! This sounds like a very cool technique too. Once again, shows you that where there’s a will, there’s a way!!
Thank you very much, sir. Great channel, by the way.

Very welcome my friend. More GarageBand help here. Http://studiolivetoday.com/GarageBand
thank you so much! i had the idea to do this but wasn’t sure if it’d be a mess and another failure. i’m not in the mood for more failure with software on this song but i really need the live drummer in garage band for this demo (so my real drummer has a track to follow). so i REALLY appreciate you demonstrating this to me so i can visualise how it will work for me and it won’t be a nightmare!
and now i’ve discovered you can’t export the audio of a live drummer track or drum track using share - song... ffs.
Really? What options are you getting when you try to share? Sometimes you need to select “open in” first before “save to files”? Not sure if this is he issue you are having?
Thanks Master

I’m a huge green day fan, and I’m making my own multi-part song, and this was SO MUCH HELP!!!! Thank you for saving my day!!!!
Awesome! Yes; Green Day have some excellent use of tempo and changes.
Hello Peter,
I want to speed up an acapella that’s on 126 and make it 130 or 128 because that’s my remix tempo.
Is there any way I can do this?
Thanks
Hey there. Not directly in Facebook but this app can help - czcams.com/video/VbEzhygQqgw/video.html
Thanks Pete! The simple instruction I needed. I suppose you could export drums at the tempo you want as a WAV and import them into a new project. I’ll try that ✌🏻
Totally. Good luck! I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
Thank you for sharing Pete very helpful!!! Can you change the tempo with a voice track?
Hey there. Not within GarageBand sorry. You’d need to use something like this - czcams.com/video/VbEzhygQqgw/video.html
Thanks heaps, saved my arse for a theatre project
Awesome! Glad to hear.
thankss
You’re very welcome my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel and consider subscribing. 👍
Hi Pete! was just wondering if the faster beat was expected to play on top of the slower one, will this still work?
Hey there. You can overlap different speeds using a similar method but this was more to show if you want to change the speed.
Thanks for your videos brothers are always helpful. I’ve been complaining to Apple about this particular issue for over 10 years now
Yeah, you might need to experiment with a different DAW if it’s very important for you. czcams.com/video/j4PJF1h975Y/video.html
Pete Johns I use digital performer and planning on n getting logic. I just bought final cut pro 10 and realize that they give you all the stuff that you wish you had an iMovie. I’m suspecting that logic is the same way. Have you noticed that garage band is completely different in a MacBook Pro compared to iOS there’s a reason for that it’s their way of getting more money :-)
Just curious, did you figure out all these tricks out by experimenting? Or did you learn these tricks somewhere else? Genuinely curious. Love your videos, they help immensely!
Mostly just trial and error. And listening to the knowledgable folks over at the GarageBand Users Facebook group. studiolivetoday.com/gbu
Thanks for the videos, Pete. They're very helpful. I was wondering though, why do the drums sound buried after exporting to audio recorder? Am I doing something wrong, or is this a common issue? Can it be resolved quickly? Thanks again!
Not sure? Haven’t come across this specifically. Might be related to the auto normalisation in GarageBand - czcams.com/video/oe2m_kdtSVU/video.html
Thanks man. I'll have a look at that!
I love you
Thanks my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
Hi I was wondering if there was any way to speed up or slow down a track in GarageBand?
Audio? No unfortunately. You'll need to use an external app like this one - czcams.com/video/VbEzhygQqgw/video.html
I think you can press merge on the tracks and it turns to an audio and it should stay the same tempo that you had it when you merged
Yeah the merge function is pretty darn cool. czcams.com/video/imcgX2bW8rk/video.html
Just leased one of my first beats this week! Appreciate everything this channel does man! Could you make a video on how to get samples to not change tempo when you press higher and lower keys on the sampler? Thats one of my biggest issues right now
Yeah, unfortunately there's no way to do this in GarageBand. You'll need something like AudioStretch or something that can change speed but not pitch, and vice versa - czcams.com/video/VbEzhygQqgw/video.html

Hey Pete, thank you so much for your help on your videos. When I change the tempo my audio file doesn’t seem to slow down. I’m trying to learn a song on piano by ear and I thought it would be easier to learn if I could slow the song down but I can’t seem to get it to slow down. Any ideas on how I could do this or why the tempo doesn’t work? Thanks.
Hey there. So, a regular audio file won't change tempos at all sorry. You'll need to use an external app like this one - czcams.com/video/VbEzhygQqgw/video.html

Hi Pete, I am have trouble finding anything “On My iPad” now for some reason. All my songs are on the cloud? Pete, I did exactly what you described, but the tempo in my second track somehow sped up and took on the same tempo as the first??? how is this possible and how to fix it?
That’s a weird one? Once it’s exported as a WAV file it shouldn’t change tempo at all? 🤔
I found out how to this super long ago good to see a man that can also think of this big brain move lol

Very informative, thanks! Is there an alternative app to use on the iPad which may not be as good but wouldn’t have this limitation? ( just for songs that have a lot of tempo changes) I’d use it for the early stages where I’m trying to compose on the fly and then I could export to Garage Band when the tempo is all set?
Hey there. I’m not 100% sure, but believe that either Auria or Cubasis May have this feature?
