In this video he explained post production in literally the most easy to understand, accessible and practical fashion possible.
Heâs great man.

@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you for the reply Pete! I have subscribed :) I had a query: I recorded guitar and drums together using my android device to capture the recording. I moved the recording to my Iphone and wanted to add a bass guitar to the track. I tried using GarageBand to add the bass but the app only records the first 4 bars for some reason. Bear in mind, i am using the bass guitar function in the app and playing along with the guitar track. I dont understand what I'm doing wrong. If you could give some pointers that would be great!! Thank you!!

I subscribed. I live in Pismo Beach Ca.. musicians I know belittle me because I use garage band. I have been writing music and recording my self since the 70âs. It is nice to find a knowledgeable teacher who embraces garageband as I do. I will watch all of your videos. Keep up the good work
Cheers Jim. Glad to have you on board. Yes; itâs sad to see folks who still want to put you down for your choice of DAW. The reality in the digital age is that it simply doesnât matter. Use what works for you and helps you create your best music. Look forward to seeing you around the channel. đ
Thatâs harsh! A lot of people forget that it doesnât matter what music program you have to create masterpieces. GarageBand is still a great program. Hope youâre doing well

Iâm Playing most of the instruments and utilise a couple of the Virtual instruments - The vocalists send me their independent tracks and I attempt to mix it all in - But have never had a true understanding of the true power of GarageBand and how to exploit all of the Tools - Iâve just spent the last 2 hrs binging on your content and What a treat - Thanks for the all the Tips and Keep up the Great Work - đđ

Pete Johns quick question what if im doing a cover and i got just the beat and my vocals... what should i be mixing ?? Nd how ?? Once again thank you so much
Hey there. Really depends on the track you are bringing in and how well mixed this is. Iâm working on something for a client like this and ended up just adding a little reverb to the vocals and backing track, then used EQ, delay and compression on the vocal.
Ur amazing !!
đ
16:00 shows that big glitch Garage Band has to where it wont replay things sometimes if you try to play it again from the middle of a section. They should really fix that. Notice how at 16:00 you dont hear the Sweepimg Pad at all.
Great videos!
Hey there. Yes, itâs actually something that is the case in most DAWs I have used. Because MIDI is just a data point triggering a virtual sound, of the play head doesnât pass the note, it doesnât trigger the sound. Thereâs no way from it to know what the sounds would be at the mid point. Does make it a little frustrating when mixing. What you can do is merge the track in to an audio track if you we ant to hear the playback at all times. czcams.com/play/PLc8Xg_23Wa56tIxtD1AHcq_Cte5u2wrRd.html
James Lee great vid. Thanks
You know what might be kinda cool (?)
If you did a show , where you let the chat kinda dictate the proceedings of the composition;
I know you've kinda done something like this
With a couple of your tunes, (where you took advice for lyrics + such) but you did all the hands on., And the chat kinda tell how they want stuff to go , and see what we come up with; I guess if there was arguments or disagreement about anything, could do a vote (?)
Idk, just thinking and typing what I thought đ€
Just an idea to give y'all ideas .....
Cool tutorial , very well explored, and detailed and explained
Yeah, itâs a good point. I have played with this a little but a complete âaudience decidesâ song could be really fun.
I know you touched on it but my understanding is that one of the best things you can do is listen to your mix on different sound systems and headphones, etc. to get a good well rounded analysis. Also taking a break to re-calibrate your ears I listening to other music or nothing at all was recommended to me. Another thing I like to do that you didnât mention was turn on the analyzer feature for the EQ. I really like to see the sound waves in the location frequency that they are.
Yup. Reference listening on different speakers and/or in different environment is indeed very useful for mixing and mastering.
And I have mixed feelings about the analyser. It can make me less inclined to use my ears and I tend to then rely on the visuals too much. But it can certainly be handy sometimes.
Hi Pete, thanks so much for all theses videos, I hope you are thriving! I have a question, it might be an idea for a video or you might have already covered it. I'm new to ipad, just got the new pro. Is it possible to make a new video and then edit it , add tracks in garage band?
Hey there my friend. So youâre looking to import the audio of a video in to GarageBan then add tracks? I havenât done anything like this but it sounds interesting!!
This guy needs to be sponsored by Apple
Haha! They wouldnât like everything I have to say about them. But they have been very helpful as Iâve progressed.
Hi Pete, first thank you for your valuable uploads, they are very helpful, I learned from one of your lessons how to merge and export the songs in one master track however the Issue I'm facing is after exporting the track the volume decrease and I think also the sound slightly changes. I tried to increase the volume to max on all the individual tracks before merging them but all I get on the final exported track is just more saturation and distorted sound without a significant volume increase. I'm wondering if you have a fix for this?
Sounds like you may be exporting the overall tracks too loud? This. Idle might help with this - czcams.com/video/mrVf0Lt6-2k/video.html
