Wow this was hands down the clearest GarageBand tutorial yet. Best part: HE DIDN'T PROMOTE ANY THIRD-PARTY PLUGINS is this even real???
ha so glad it was helpful Jinan and thanks for taking the time to share as that is fun & encouraging to hear! -Dean
Hands down! So good!
I agree
I swear I was thinking the same thing. This is amazing.
Yep! Agreed 100%
AND DONT YOU EVEN SAY IT DIDNT HURT
ha yep, when you're mixing you get to hear lots of things over and over.... and over.... :P -Dean
read this as the vid said it
Lol
@Jordan Beck ha tell me about it! I was just working on a new song yesterday and when I finished I was like man this song isn't good... then 5 hours later I took another listen and was like hey this isn't bad! :P -Dean
IM SCREAMINGG
I've struggled putting off music for years because I didn't know how to mix/master my vocals. This video was so informative AND soooo inspiring. You did such great job. I can't wait to test this out!
So glad it was helpful Rose, go have some fun with it! -Dean
Most of GarageBand third party plugins are free, though
was just about to say the same thing!!
Same here!! Thank you for this vid!!!
@@thesongwritingstudio5783 thank you so much
Dude... I do music in garageband but never really sounded pro. I watched this and dedicated the whole day into this song I'm making and it sounds amazing man thank you so much you have no idea how much you've helped.
LOVE hearing that Ignacio de Jesus!! -Dean
Fun fact: Joji uses GarageBand
Used*
He’s stopped like 3 years ago unfortunately, but it was interesting to see how he did it.
@@utilitariancritic right I forgot he uses logic now
@@abycoolin schonmagazine.com/interview-joji/ in this interview he said that he is PRIMARILY working on garageband, but yeah he still might use logic sometimes
Yeah! Joji is actually my favourite musician, he made all the stuff from his Chloe Burbank era in GarageBand which is awesome and still uses it from time to time in conjunction with Logic.
Many artists use it even Shawn Mendes
I made a whole notepad worth of the information lmao. This is the first time I’ve ever studied anything in my entire life.
haha that's awesome :P... glad it was helpful! -Dean
no halo, when you want to study something, and you study it with a good teacher like Dean, you are experiencing something that many people never have. Enjoy it!
Best video out there. Clear, concise, easy, explanatory & helpful ❤️ you’re a great teacher!
Thanks Abigale! So glad it was helpful! -Dean
The way this guy is breaking down how to do this is extraordinary to me. As someone who has no experience at all in recording he's speaking it in a way where I'm receiving the message and not just telling us about how to do it.
listen, I've been doing music for about 20 years and have always struggled to find someone via CZcams that could really break down how to mix & master for me. This was amazing & I thank you so much for taking the time to share with us your craft. the hard work paid off. THANK YOU FOR THIS DEAN - so so much.
Hey Knot Shy! So glad the tutorial was helpful and thanks for the encouragement, that means a lot! :P
how can I say "thank you" in all languages in the world?
ha that says it enough! So glad you enjoyed it Natalia, thanks for sharing! -Dean
I don't know if you are a writer or not, but you should be. The line, "How can I say thank you in all the languages in the world" is such a beautiful way to say thank you. That's almost poetry right there. Bravo.

Your guidance made vocal mixing seem a lot more approachable now. The tips you've dropped here and there really come in handy.
Appreciate this a lot, thank you so much!
This was a great tutorial! I immediately went and adjusted all of my vocals on Garageband and you can really tell the difference.
i’ve literally been struggling with mixing for years and this video literally taught me so much in 12 minutes oh my god you have no idea how grateful I am for this thank you so much !!!
Hope all is well for you! Your tutorials are helping me a lot, and seeing you havent been posting videos just hope all is well. Thank you so much for what you’ve given us so far
Best tutorial I've come across. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! It helped me so much and I feel more confident now in the song I've just recorded!
This is seriously THE most helpful mixing video I’ve ever seen, and I’m not even all the way through the video 😂 thank you for making this intimidating, daunting thing and making it understandable!
This was just a simple, coherent explanation on mixing vocals. I've been using Garageband for waaaay too long to not have known the precise settings that you shared. Thanks so much!!!
So glad to hear it was helpful The TMax, you're very welcome!! -Dean
Thank you so much for this video. I've always had a hard time mixing my vocals and I don't know where to start cause most tutorials covers too much. Yours is just clean, clear and straightforward, and very helpful!
Dude is a legend. You are a great teacher. This is the first music production video that I watched that I don't feel left behind along the way. You really broke it down. Great work!
thanks man i’ve been wanting to rap for so long but didn’t know where to start, i’ll be using this advice thanks again 🙏🏼
Hey Gage, that's awesome man! Well have fun with it! -Dean
YES ! this is what I need coz just started in garage band did 2 songs without editing just a raw. Big thanks!
That's awesome bemzstudio! You're very welcome, thanks for sharing! -Dean
This is one of the best tutorials I have ever seen on any topic on CZcams. I am looking forward to checking out the rest of the channel. I appreciate your focus on the most important features. I learned Logic and now that GarageBand has gotten so mature I am looking to use it perhaps exclusively instead of Logic, which I find myself fighting with a lot (mostly because I don’t use it often enough or thoroughly enough to have memorized all of its arcana). I really appreciate tutorials that have just the right amount of depth.
Definitely one of the best videos I have seen on this topic. Not only this guy is an expert in the subject but an awesome teacher who can explain things so clearly.
Been having trouble with mostly recording and mixing my vocals, this can be a great start for me!
So glad to hear Kaon! Have some fun! -Dean
@@thesongwritingstudio5783 heyyy how guys doing. Nice video btw. Recently I have started a garageband band channel where I have made a few songs.

Tip:
If your learning this for the first time start off on a blank track and edit raw vocals
Ur a god
Are you saying to just mess around with it until you get it ? Sorry, I'm new to this as well lol
But yes I'm really asking that dumb question 😂
Elizabeth Rodriguez pretty much u gotta find what works for ur voice and depends what ur looking for
@@bethany9416 I'm with you on this one! lol. I've recorded some covers, not sure if I actually sound great, but it is fun. Would love to learn how to actually build from scratch
This is the best tutorial I have ever found on CZcams. No one give that much information about everything and The guy describes in a way that is easy to understand. BEST TUTORIAL. keep it coming ❤️
OMG. I hit the red button right away. This is SO helpful! You explain everything so detailed and clean. I love it! Thank you so much!
I went onto your CZcams channel today to see if you had a video about mixing vocals in GarageBand and, as luck would have it, you'd just uploaded one! This is awesome, thank you :)
ha that's awesome Drillmanable! It's funny, someone else asked me as well about a vocal mixing tutorial right as I was getting ready to publish this video... must be the right time for it! :) -Dean
Oh man, this helps a ton. I've been playing around in GB for years without really getting it right. I've honestly been scared to touch the EQ because that's when I really mess things up for myself. This is such an easy to follow guide and I like how you explain exactly what all the steps do. Greatly appreciated, I'll be sure to check out your other stuff!
Now if you could hit command+D on your perfect teeth and give the duplicates to me I'd be all set
Have a nice day!
That's so awesome to hear John, thanks for sharing! It's encouraging because the aim of this video was to help people get a jump start on mixing vocals in GB! And ha I'm afraid there's no Cmd+D outside of computerland! :P -Dean
The Songwriting Studio :
The Songwriting Studio is it better to always record vocals dry with 0 effects and then either add effects or have a track with presets and then just click and drag the dry vocal take to that track? I’ve always heard it’s not good to record with effects, better to do that after
Definitely helpful to get me started. Thanks!
Thank you for this tutorial! I've avoided mixing for years because I thought it was complicated. Thank you for simplifying it while making it thorough!
Incredibly useful tutorial Dean! Nice work 👍
Thanks Patrick! -Dean
Thank you! I’m just beginning my process. Should be purchasing our Mac within the next month. Thanks for the great tutorials. They are excellent!
That's awesome Harper Music, you are very welcome! Well have some fun when you get everything going! :P -Dean
thank you for explaining everything in simple words. i'm terrible with computers and really a beginner with this but i'm working on mixing my first cover in garageband with a lot of help from your videos!
video is so helpful. been using and referring back to it for a little while now. thank you!
I want to start off by saying THANK YOU SO MUCH, for putting this incredible video together! Not only was it easy to follow along, but it literally turned my entire track (first fully recorded song + mixed on Garageband) into something that sounds like a real song. I thought it sounded ok after writing all the parts & recording them, but after implementing all these tips & tricks, everything sounds better than I could've even imagined. Prior to watching some of your videos I didn't really think I could mix that well, but now I'm ready to use everything I learned in this video and continue applying it to all my upcoming projects moving forward.
Thanks again! - One of your newest subscribers.

@@thesongwritingstudio5783 Hey Dean, thanks for the reply. I would like to ask you that is it normal for the vocal channel to go very soft that I have to max out the DB of it just to let it sound near balance to my backing track? And it's still around the acoustic part, it gets really soft when I am at the chorus where drums and e guitars come in. Do you have any solution to it?
Thank you so much, i've been struggling with mixing and mastering! Very helpful!
