Pete, I was recently laid off from my job, took a few days to recover and regroup. I used a bit of my savings and took a chance on myself and got a few recording items on sale and stumbled upon your CZcams channel this week!
All this to say, your channel has come to me at such a huge and important point of my life. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and being so thorough to us all, you are a great teacher and even though I have basic studio/recording knowledge, your videos have been a massive help!
Sending you love and appreciation my man!
- Eddie Franco
Eddie! Thanks so much for your kind words my friend. My goal here is to help folks create, record and release their best music, so every time I hear a story like yours it gives me more energy to keep going. đđ
Two track hack! Brilliant! I had to stop the video to comment. Ok, back to it......
Itâs a game changer. So much easier recording in track view.
man... i never knew i could drag the scissors and make cuts without having to goto the menu every time.... see Pete... i learn something new every time... amazing... i still havnt gotten used to using the 2 track hack either.. i gotta use it more... it would make life so much easier...
Nice one man! Yeah recording in track view is so much easier.
All of this is ludicrously helpful! I just started using Garageband on my iPad for songwriting and there's just so much to learn. You've got such great tips and do a fantastic job teaching them, thanks a million!
Awesome! Really appreciate your kind words my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you havenât already. đ
Thanks Pete, Iâd put GB down as a toy for kids with iPhones. I was very wrong đ
Youâre not alone there Dave. I hunk nearly all of us underestimated GarageBand early on. Until we didnât! đ
Great tips Pete.. the Master volume + 2 track hack are pretty handy.. really good advice about singing the part first + then orchestrating it later.. I always say, Capture the idea before it disappears.. singing it is usually the quickest + easiest way.. songwriters should definitely bookmark this video for later on.. đ Thanks..
Yeah. Those are probably my two fave GarageBand tips of all tome. And agree - so easy and frustrating to lose those cool ideas.
I've learned so much from your vids thank you!
Awesome. So glad to hear they have helped.
Hi Pete, a section renaming trick that saves me a lot of time is adding the chord progressions in the name. I usually use the virtual bass instead of the recorded guitars because once the bass is recorded I donât re-record (and wipe the name)
Epic!!!! Iâm totally going to borrow this tip and update my project. Having the chords up there too would be amazing.
Man this is how Iâm gonna get down chord progression once and for all. Thanks Jeffrey and Pete. Keep up the grind.
@@PeteJohnsMusic it really helps because I rarely finish a track in one go. It can take months đ so having the chord progression there saves me from having to figure things out again
I do this too. Great tip
Darcy has such a great feel, I slotted him in very subtly under some stuff that I programmed. Worked a real treat!
Yeah. The drummers are actually highly underrated in my opinion.
Two Track hack is a winner đ
Right?! đ¤đ
Got to watch this live! Thanks for all your help and wisdom, Pete! Working on my Songtember project here in California! đ¤đź
Awesome stuff. Thanks for being there for the live version. Hope to I enjoyed the little fails. đ
Thanks for putting all these hacks in one place. Very useful indeed. Awesome
Very welcome.
Oh Pete! I always learn something new when watching! 2 track hack!!! Epic!!! That will be really helpful with my new Arturia Fuse 2 channel audio interface. Should be arriving UPS from France any day now. So excited! It's got midi in the back as well as the assortment of inputs.
Awesome!! Yes the 2 track hack is my absolutely fave and go-to!!
OMG Pete, after all this time I never knew that the track splitter could move from above! I also thought you had taught us the 2 track hack before yet couldnât find it in your videos so I ended up buying a 12 inch ipad pro 3 off ebay when I discovered that gb defaults to the track view even without using an interface only on that size ipad which I really find helpful when recording. Not disappointed in my purchase because I love the increased screen size compared to my 2018 10.5 ipad pro. Got it for $610 including 512 gb with cellular in pristine condition which will be a nice addition for creating my songtember song along with a video to go with it.đđđ
Stellar tips Pete, now Im going to finish watching the rest of it!
Laurie!! Always a pleasure my friend. Yes the latest iPads with that hybrid view are pretty useful I must say!
Very informative Pete thanks so much for the tipsđ
Welcome as always my friend.
Thanks for the tips. Am working on #songtember. Will see what happens.
Awesome sauce!!!!
Great work, one additional hint for the one regarding the master track volume hack you donât need to have it on to have the volume lowered. You can turn the master fx track off and the volume still will sound quieter if you lowered the master fx eq. This helps with dsp usage!
Ah cool! Good tip.
this is all very handy
thanks pete !
Very welcome mate.
Did not know about renaming sections - great tip đđť
đđ¤
Excellent Pete, huge thanks. đ
Welcome Will. Thanks for watching.
âAll GBs metronomes are about as bad as the otherâ
Priceless âPete Johnsâ đ
Thanks for this one man, itâs like a Studio Live Todaysâ
âGreatest Hitsâ
Haha!!! Right?! Those metronomes though. Sheesh !!!
Sections are great for arranging
Yup 100%. Just wish they could be named!!
My only issue with using a drummer track as a metronome replacement is that once Iâve done that it becomes far too tempting to just leave the drummer track as the drums lol
Song sections is a tip I learned from you a while ago now and it is so crazy helpful. Itâs also especially helpful for later recording vocals so you can see like, D just passed, that means you were singing too slow and need to try again, for example.
Ah man I need an interface rig thingy.
Ya. When you see the iRig Pro Duo today youâll probably be in love. đ
Hey Pete hope all is well! Do you have or could make a video on how to get your music notations in garage band mobile? Thank you very much and blessings always.
Hey there my friend. Unfortunately without a MIDI export option in GarageBand iOS this is pretty challenging to do and I havenât found a good way.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Ok thank you very much as always. Keep up the excellent job my friend!
Very helpful. Thanks
Youâre very welcome my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel and consider subscribing. đ
Nice!

Hi Pete. I was thinking of getting a Korg Nanokey to keep things light when Iâm on my travels. I noticed the buttons are described as being like keys on a typing keyboard. Well Iâve already got a typing keyboard. So ⌠do you know if you thereâs a way to use the ipad magic keyboard as a piano keyboard to control ipad instruments?
Unfortunately not. The typing keyboard function is on Mac only and hasnât made its way to iOS yet.
Thanks for the video Pete, I've learned a lot even after using this DAW for a few years!
I have a question regarding the use of iCloud to save and backup my projects. For most of my projects I save to iCloud, however with recent projects, for what ever reason if I ever want to switch between working on a project on my phone or on my tablet I get this "Conflict Resolved" message. It basically states that GarageBand creates a different version for me on whichever device I would be using at that time. Does this message come up due to iOS version differences perhaps or is there something I'm missing in how I back up through iCloud?
Any help is appreciated!
Hey there. So the way to work around this is to make sure you have closed the project on your other device AND closed GarageBand entirely before you go ahead and open it on your other device. Then do the same thing in reverse. Greta question and one that Iâll make a video about soon.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you very much!
You cover just about everything but itâs not always easy to find every tidbit you may need at the time. Iâve been searching for The hack where you record while viewing the track view. Is it still a hack or has it been updated?
Yep, itâs still there. Hereâs the video. czcams.com/video/qdgd3xpnUgk/video.htmlsi=Cpq0iBK_ouoY0r1Z
If there a way to pitch shift or speed up a track mid track like
Itâs normal and all of a sudden starts getting high pitch in the track?
Hope this makes sense please help
There is a pitch pluginin GarageBand but itâs kind of limited. Check it out here. czcams.com/video/KsiUWbTt4S4/video.html
I never use the metronome *ever*
how do you get the record and Orange sonar buttons next to the mute and headphone buttons?
Youâll need an audio interface for the monitor and record icons to be relevant.
czcams.com/video/y8YBONgt2lA/video.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic huh ok thanks
which 2 input interface do you use and how can it connect to an iphone??
I currently use the Steinberg UR22C for my iPad, and I connect via a USB-C to USB adapter, and also use a powered hub. If you're using a Lightning based iPad you'll need the genuine Apple Lightning to USB 3 adapter. More info is here - czcams.com/video/3Zyb1ISy3wk/video.htmlsi=8ghmFNACpZVg9fIg
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks!!!
Hey Pete. I sent you a message through messenger. Let me know whenever you read it. Itâs something important. Thank you so much
Just replied. My day off today so canât make any promises but email me and Iâll see what I can do.
@@PeteJohnsMusic i just send it to your email let me know what time you go live ok
