- As part of our efforts to improve the reliability of the system, we're temporarily closing the tunnel between Queens and Manhattan that carries the F train. Learn about the project and travel alternatives at new.mta.info/article/service-...
Please do these all the time. Even if they're lower production budget, this will be invaluable.

I wish it could happen. But it's not happening because the G would need to be a full set. Run 5 cars on that line, we'll be subjected to 12+ minute headways.
Appreciate the effort the MTA is putting into maintenance, it might feel like pre-2001 but with more quieter tracks as a bonus.
At rush hours, some of those extra R trains operating during this service change end at either 36th Street or 59th Street (along 4th Avenue) in Brooklyn, due to the lack of capacity at Bay Ridge-95th Street.
The M terminating at 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr and 57 St sure will bring alot of foamers... I do wanna hear those announcements tho

I know the M ending at 57th Street used to happen when L trains were cut from Manhattan before 2017. Once the Second Avenue Subway opened in 2017, M trains running to Manhattan to replace L trains were normally sent to 96th Street on the Q line to ease service with F trains at 57th Street.
This service change brings back that era a bit for the M in some ways and it’s good that the M to 57 program still exists.

I miss having M trains in Queens, and I miss having F trains along 63rd Street, but this service change will be over soon and hopefully there won’t have to be too many further 63rd Street Tunnel closures too soon by that point.

The shuttle buses are the Q94 and Q95 for anyone wanting to track them. They were mentioned in the leaflet handed out at the stations but not anywhere online

Extend the G to forrest hills. Wont matter if R has "added service" since it's always delayed. I'm tired of waiting 17 minutes on a good day for a single R train to show up...

Wouldn't you think I know that already? Do you even live on the R line? If no then don't bother replying. Rather have more trains showing up even if it's just a 5 car set every few minutes as opposed to waiting almost 20 minutes for just ONE 10 car train.

F train should be with the E train on 53 street line After construction is Done.
UPDATE: M and F trains have resumed normal service. M trains now run between Forest Hills-71 Av and Middle Village-Metropolitan Ave. F trains run between Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and Jamaica-179 St. The F shuttle is no longer running and replaced by normal F train service between 21 St-Queensbridge and Lexington Avenue-63 St

G train should help out with the R train on QBL.
For anyone saying the G should go to Forest Hills, it can't without extra units. If it doesn't use extra units, it's going to be running about every 12+ minutes because it has more stops to make. This will make the crosstown portion of the line (where it runs by itself) worse.
Some of the M train sets should be lent to the G then, since the M isn't running the entire route.
EDIT: MTA chose to give them to the C instead. sigh
True, but the MTA could take some units from the W and put them on the G, with the lower frequency on the W offset by higher frequency on the R.
The F should just run up to 96th street and have the M extended to Jamaica
This is unnecessary or better yet increase G train service and extend it to Coney Island and have it be lent units from the F this way everybodies happy

@@ninofromkitchennightmares1497The 63rd Street Tunnel work includes the corner linking the 57th Street station to Lexington-63rd. Therefore 6th Avenue trains are unable to access the 2nd Avenue Line.

Are there modified stop announcement profiles for these reroutes and shuttles?
The F shuttle uses two programs apparently, a few splices of regular F announcements if it carries the F sign, and a newly set up program if it carries the S sign. Apparently, the programs have rotated quite a lot between F and S for that F shuttle train.
And 7 months, the F & M Trains run back to normal

When construction is done, I think it is most likely that the tunnel swap will be permanent.
If so, I'll miss the F train via 63rd. Perhaps I can have nostalgic moments like these when the F returns to 63rd during late nights and possibly weekends.
I hope not, I think it would cause unnecessary confusion and create more problems than it solves. Plus the deinterlining community will be insufferable

F via M from 47-50 st to Jackson heights 74 st. No M traín from 47-50 st to forest hills 71 Av and end at 57 st.

I can see u trying to partially deinterline Queens Blvd, but to fully deinterline, put both the (F/M) on 63rd and QBL local, and (E) on 53rd and QBL express. The (R) gets sent to Astoria, the (N) to 96 St and the (W) being suspended.

The curve is out of commission.
The reason they cant run (M) trains via 63rd Street is because 1 of the 2 tracks in the 63rd Street tunnel is unavailable. Altho there is an x crossover west of 21 St, that section is being worked on, so trains cant switch to being on 1 track in that section. But even if there was a way to switch (M) trains on 1 track, expect its frequency to be every 12 minutes, which is very unreliable.

Park go to from 6th Avenue to 63rd Street.
At least that’s what I think it is. I’m not sure how this shuttles going to work for the track replacement on the 63rd Street Tunnel, which opened in 1989.

I waited 30 minutes for an R this morning. Late for work.
I was hoping F trains terminate at 96th street since Q train frequencies are kinda terrible and F train frequencies are terriffic and keeping the M with its normal routes. The Q line might be able to get a few extra r160's or just have more F trains go to coney island which is a win win for most people. The F train shuttle is a smart idea though!
One track at 57th Street-6th Avenue is closed for track renovation as the project will also include the curve going between the 6th Avenue Line and the 63rd Street Line,
The problem is though, the tunnel between 57th Street-6th Avenue and Lexington Avenue-63rd Street had to fully shut down, as well as the tunnel between the IND Queens Boulevard Line and 21st Street-Queensbridge.
MTA SERVICE BUSES MTA OK BY the Bx19 and the B46 SBS is OK
At least for the holiday season of 2023, the 53rd Street Tunnel can’t shut down due to this F train corridor project.
The G isn't going to 71 Ave can y'all stop. They're added extra service on the R, also E and F train will be running local from 10 am to 11am on weekdays.
Were NOT GONNA STOP OKAY BUDDYYYYYYY!!! But anyways, we dont know how much the (R)’s service is increased, but knowing the MTA, it’s probably an added 3 trains per hour, which is almost nothing. Also, idk who told u the (E/F) are running local, but theyre probably wrong. If they aren’t wrong, QBL local tracks can’t handle 3 services. Also, the (G) getting extended to Forest Hills will add more service to QBL local than the (R)’s “increased service”. Also, since the (M) is being shortened and the (G) would be longer, we can give more trains to the (G), which can also boost service where the (G) runs alone.

Or, why not send the M via 63rd Street and Keep the F via 53rd? Because by doing this 2 issues can be resolved, that being Queens Plaza, and 36th Street.

Lol, but a tip for the NYC subway is that multiple lines are on the same color. All the orange lines run along 6 Av in Midtown Manhattan. Two of those lines (which are the (F) and (M) trains) are being affected from this.

They should have did one direction at a time
They are single-tracking on the Manhattan-bound track though the entire curve under Central Park is closed.
They are closing 1 track at a time, and the other track will be used for an (F) train shuttle from Lex. Av 63 St and 21 St Queensbridge. Because only 1 track is available, there is only 1 train able to run on it, and this train comes every 20 minutes. If anything happens to this 1 train, expect your unreliable shuttle to go bye bye.
