    I do not envy you the humidity dehumidify problems. England is compared to where I live very humid enough the umbrellas are common. I would think that to get a lower level of humidity in the shed the control of internal air would be necessary with all leaks controlled other wise you would be trying to dehumidify the outside atmosphere
    love the battery banks and the solar panels and the monitoring and control system!

    I can recommend an active solar dehumidifier, also known as an open window on a sunny day.
    Or a diesel heater and some insulation.

    I just moved into a new place myself, with a rather nice garden and shed. 😁
    I already have a 20W panel, but I really need to go bigger.
    I'm thinking 4x40W, or whatever I can effectively get onto one side of the shed. 😅

    • @JulianIlett
      @JulianIlett  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yeah, bigger is better. I just brought home two 340W solar panels.

    I would imagine it's like trying to dehumidify the outside air. I would rather try adding some more ventilation and heat, that will dramatically reduce the relative humidity.

      those in the know who build sheds and garages are well aware of the dripping roof problem. You need to line your ceiling with sloping sheets , say polycarb, so that the air condenses on the shed roof and drips down to a catchment gutter and away to safe drain. Air humidity itself is not a problem when equipment is warm and running. Water only forms on colder surfaces. Dormant electronic gear put inside a zip bag with a silica gel sachet (cheap and reusuable and indicate when wet)

    @mjp0815 Před 2 měsíci

    Wonderful shed! And what great internals, the huge titanate cell almost looks like an April 1st addition... Well done keep them coming. With regards to dehumidifation, since the ant miners are producing warm air at the bottom of the shed, shouldn't the hot air take up moisture and rise to the top of the shed? So, maybe you should install something cold just under the roof and condense and drip it to the outside?

    I keep looking for the Date panel where you set the Time Machine to destination.
    I am seriously thinking of getting one of those thick walled Sheds made from Plastic boarding, a B&Q special. It has a sloping roof with room for a few Solar Panels.
    Currently cheaper than its Wooden version.
    As YT does not allow site links, all I can say is it is light Grey with one small window.

    What's the model number of the buck boost converter at 3:35 ? If you don't mind. I need a buck boost converter with perferably, digital control, that most importantly does more than 6 amps. Impossible to find as far as I have seen.

    A compressor dehumidifier is what you want. I bought one after the kitchen sink overflowed onto the kitchen floor, then the dining room carpet and then the living room carpet and then the hall carpet. It's quite effective, drawing a lot out of the air down to 40%. I now let it run keeping the humidity at about 65%. All the windows no longer get wet and mouldy as a side benefit....

    • @JulianIlett
      @JulianIlett  Před 2 měsíci +3

      I want to build a 12V system. Peltier based, it will freeze the moisture on a heatsink, then go into reverse and drop the melting ice into a bucket.

    • @user-tj5nk7lb8l
      @user-tj5nk7lb8l Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@JulianIlett dont waste your energy J Peltier is very inefficient ca 5%. Humidity is a bugger BUT it only happens from hot on cold and u got heat gear in the shed so water will condense on your roof - its physics. Some one said use the sun, open a window - get some free flow natural ventillation going - fit a big dia chimney with an air extraction hood ie preailing wind will help suck out the damp air - old school method

    • @alanmon2690
      @alanmon2690 Před 2 měsíci

      @@JulianIlett I have a Peltier dehumidifier (uses about 40 watts at max)- - it wasn't very effective, seveal days to collect a litre, which is why I bought a compressor dehumidifier (about £100) which uses about 200 watts when running, 40 watts when idle. I have the latter in the living room at the moment which has used about 1kwh over the past 2 days keeping the relative humidity at 65% (recommended comfort level). It can be left enabled permanently with a small tube pushed through a small hole in the floor to drain the water drops. In the shed it would better to run it at 70%. They can be run via a time switch, they remember their settings and restart.

    • @JulianIlett

    Why not put the old panels on the roof of the shed? They will help reduce your condensation problem.

    • @JulianIlett
      @JulianIlett  Před 2 měsíci

      The roof is very lightweight - I'd have to build a structure to take the weight of the panels.

  • @urugulu1656

    instead of using the solar power for antminers you could run it to some peltier type dehumidifiers... probably more meaningful way to spend your percious charge discharge cycles

    • @JulianIlett
      @JulianIlett  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I was planning a sixth module, but it would be a very dark, damp module. If the dehumidifiers work, and the insect-o-cutors work and there's lots of light, then maybe.

Master shutdown switch outside for naive persons activation if you are not there? Unplug solar panels - use Anderson connectors, or knife switch (not MC4s)

    To stop the humidity your need to block the air flow into the shed, or your be trying to dehumidifie the world 😂 you could try drying some air coming in and giving the shed a positive air pressure, so all leaks will be to the outside. Should stop the damp air getting in.

    • @JulianIlett
      @JulianIlett  Před 2 měsíci +1

      My house is uninsulated (and uninsulatable) but it can be kept warm by blasting heat into it. In the same way, I'm going to suck moisture out of the air in the shed. More moist air will enter through the door, the window, the floor, the walls and the roof. But I'll just keep sucking.

    • @TheEmbeddedHobbyist
      @TheEmbeddedHobbyist Před 2 měsíci
