  • in Feng Shui the entryway is very important. because of the way this house is built, it's entryway is along a side road that seems impossible to fix, here is how we managed to completely transform it with a clever move!

      Would like that too, until then, few ideas :
      - build retaining walls or terrace the slope to create multiple levels. This helps to slow down the downward flow of energy and provides more balance
      - Instead of having straight pathways leading directly down the slope, consider incorporating gentle curves or meandering paths. Curved pathways help to slow down the energy flow and create a more harmonious and inviting entrance to your home.
      - Use plants and landscaping elements strategically to soften the slope and add visual interest. Planting trees, shrubs, and flowers can help anchor the energy and create a sense of beauty. Choose plants with rounded or flowing shapes to counteract the downward energy of the slope.
      - Adequate lighting is crucial for safety and to enhance the energy flow. Illuminate pathways and staircases to ensure visibility during the evening hours. Consider using soft, warm lighting to create a welcoming ambiance and break the threat of not knowing where you when you go up or having to fall into the dark flow of the road directly.
      - If possible, incorporate a water feature into your landscape design. Water can help to balance the downward energy of the slope. A small pond, fountain, or even a simple water feature can introduce positive energy into the space and create a sense of "flatness" and calm
      - Place symbolic objects at the front of your house to attract positive energy and deflect any negative influences. Anything that creates a first barrier to the road flow and something you are eager to go to instead of the road
      If you make all of this in a harmonious way with you home and environnement you can turn a threatening slope into a terrace garden that will softly get you in and out.

      What's cool is if you think of classic Victorian houses, at least in films and now that I think about it a few castles in France I've seen, this is exactly what they do! I can usually follow along with your points, but not here. I'd find this an annoying entryway. A roundbaout feels like a traffic guidance thing, to me - it'd feel like I'd installed a traffic light on my own property. It implies busy roads. Also, I'd suddenly have to do sharp turns to get in and out of the garage.
    Why not introduce a much gentler curve past the house? It seems to already have a bit of a curve there - why not simply remove some of the tarmac close to the house to make a narrow, gently curved road over to the garage?
    Or, if you can't get rid of the tarmac for some reason, why not cut some holes and plant some trees in it? Something with dense cover that can provide lots of shade, like chestnut or something. Make it feel like a courtyard. That'd also slow things down.

      @jimboalogo Před 10 měsíci +12

      I'm nobody, so my advice is worthless. But here goes: Don't worry about "the best." You'll never know what that is. What you like is the best. Go with what you like. Make a decision and go with it. As far as planning the layout, get an aerial shot if you can. Borrow a drone and get a top down view, like what's in this video. Even Google satellite view might work. It will give you a starting point to plan things out. My family had a landscaping business and I did a bit of landscape design. That view (or even drawing it out on paper) makes things much easier. I always used the paper with the little squares on it. It helps with keeping things to scale (helpful, but not required.)

    • @goodvibes4891
      @goodvibes4891 Před 10 měsíci +11

      for plantings, the easiest way to not end up with something you dislike is to follow 4 main rules. First 1 is most important, last 3 are common sense-ish.
      1. Try not to have any straight lines between your laid out plants. If you are planting beds of plants, you want a very natural landscape, so always stagger your plants so there are no more than 3 in a line from any direction. This is especially important in the front of a bed, if you have a line of plants at the front edge of your bed, it will feel like a greenhouse assembly line rather than a garden bed.
      2. From front to back, plant small to large. You want your smaller plants to take up more visible, focal areas and not get drowned out by the larger plants. It adds nice smoothness to a scape, and keeps the plantings flow well.
      3. Plant for the size plants will become, rather than their current size. This is probably most obvious, if you buy some grasses that will grow to 10x its potted size, don't put anything close to it, or else it will get swallowed up. You can directly challenge this rule, but you should only do it intentionally, with annuals or short lived plants in order to make the initial planting and first few months of the beds life look better.
      4. Plant with color palates in mind. If you go for a variety of colors, despite what you think, mixing colors generally isn't going to turn out all that good. Everyone likes to envision the fireworks of color from a plot of wildflowers, but complimentary colors are called that for a reason. There are many different ways to achieve this, whether it's carving out sections for each major color group, or going for color groupings like warm/cold, pastels, etc...
      Also, as an extra tip/plea, go for something either natural or beneficial to your local environment if you can. Native, Native, Native! Pollinators!

      Triangulate similar plants in multiples of 3. Create drifts of similar plants. Study Gertrude Jekyll flower border. Lay out your paths using the cow paths already there. Think about how streams meander. Paths are wider and stair steps are deeper and lower. Your going to have a great garden!

    I'd probably just live in the garage and park the car in the house lol

    Why not add on to the house and connect it to the garage to create more space?

    That doesn't slow down cars, it the second floor of the house that slows the car down

    That does LOOK pretty, but is totally non-functional. That huge garage has that much driveway for a reason - cars need to be on solid surfaces when pulling into and out of the bays. Driving a round-about in a delivery truck would be a nightmare for that small of a turning radius in your illustration.
    I agree the house needs more green around it, but you don't want to be walking though mud on rainy days, so a solid pathway should be part of that plan, especially if you have someone who has limited mobility or is disabled (which might also explain the amount of solid surface right up close to the house).
    If you want to pull the driveway away from the house, it should follow the treeline to the right, which would open up a triangle of green space along the front of the house for more grass, or better yet, native landscaping to save water.

    it looks as though there is not enough pull-out space for the garage. unfortunately it needs a lot more pavement

    Kinda weird layout to begin with, why not have the house in the back and the garage near the main road? guess we don't see the whole lot.

    Hate to say it but this isnt the best. I think you need a little more pavement added to the garage portion for you to be able to back out and back in more efficiently. Other than that I think it’s a perfect compromise

    '''isn't that amazing'' oof that sounded annoying. and nahh.. a circle isn't very practical and the ''energy'' is just the way you feel and deal with life.
    Maybe better is to hire a teletubbie who is waving every day to give you some good positive vibes, then the circle would fit nice I guess.

    That house is a poor design. Why not put the garage in front of it? Now it's too late, but if they had thought it through before, it would have been shorter paths and a barrier against noises of the street. I would have further added some plants to put up a screen in front of the house.
    Lastly, what's their obsession with lawns? No shrubs, no flowers, nothing? That's almost like a desert IMHO and I don't like the smell of crippled grass either...
