- Can I turn a SHED into a Tiny Home? I have a $15,000 budget.... Do you think I can get it done for that $15,000? Can I make this energy efficient, affordable, and completely off grid?
Lets see what I can do!
Thanks to Ladder Life for supporting this project.
Give me feedback on the video! We're hoping to release a new video each week, and hope to be of similar quality, but I want to know what you think of the video setup!
What project should we do next?

Let me know what you think of this video and the home!
It is funny to watch and 10/10 house
@@Crazyben212what was funny about the video?
@@InvestmentJoy oh I meant it is fun to watch not funny
I liked the video and the concept and build. I questioned if a home like you wanted could be built for 15k--you were looking for a lot for not much money--which is good, if it could have been done. I think 12k to build out the home was about right but that's having your BIL do the work. To hire it done would have been much more, I imagine. If someone is handy they can do it for about the same. In order to do the off grid water and solar correctly, I'd suggest, as a resource for off grid building, viewing some of Nate Petroski's CZcams videos as he has done what you're attempting and has done very well. Explains all about how he set up his rainwater collection, how he stores and treats the water and how he built his solar power. Invaluable resource for the future. You might even try to do a collab with him down in West Virginia to get a tour of his works. Keep on thinking outside the box, Brandon.
I will say having a family friend to do the interior work at a professional level. I would have loved a more in depth video, step by step with the installs for the stuff like the solar panels and the water. I did appreciate how in depth you were with your explanation on your thought process behind this project as it all sounds very cool. With how popular the off grid, tiny home is right now I can imagine a ton of people would love this.
I bought an old sailboat for $3000 and rebuilt it to a live-aboard bugout survival pod for another $5000. Now I live on it for a yearly cost of $3500.
That’s dope, mate.
Where does the $3500 annual cost come from? Repairs? Or does that number include food/expenses for your own life?
@@tjheid5414
Everything is included, food is free, power is free, water is free, anchoring is free, propulsion is free. My 2 largest costs are maintenance and Starlink.
Can you explain what the $3500 is mainly used for? I'm curious like the other guy. Do you have electricity aboard? Solar? How does the shower/bath/toilet work?
I love how genuine you are with the time line and situation of getting things eventually done instead of saying u did this in 72 hours like a lot of other CZcamsrs 😂 so much more realistic
Been watching off an on for years and man, you’ve really leveled up the editing!
I appreciate that!
In russia you can buy a 3 floor home (counting the attic) for 3k dollars, 1k dollars for every floor
great video. you're playing life like a video game keep up the good work
Thaught this video was really awesome! I think alot of people could benefit from these types of projects. We could all learn more about the how to of this type of endeavor. Living in ohio my whole life I’ve been closer and closer in recent yrs to looking into something like this. Every time I rent a cabin in hocking hills and pay the two night tab I think about owning one.
I liked this thank for sharing
great video! i do hope they have plenty of sercuity cameras at these rentals given how off grid they are.
I didn’t think of that 😭
Finally figured out who you are.....Mike O'Malley from the movie "Sully"!!!
Like the format, would be curious to know what other things you tried!
Great video ! It has tons of valuable information. I’ve shared it with several family members ..
is there a shower in there?
NEW VIDEO YAY
Wow Brandon. I remember sitting in discord watching you design this in sketch up. Crazy to think it’s been almost 3 years 😂 awesome!
I’m so glad to see this project completed
Outback solar is what you should look into for an inverter, they're the best.
Great video man I've had the idea to make a tiny home airbnb for a while and this was informative and encouraging. Only problem with me is I live in one of the busiest and most expensive cities, I'm thinking maybe do it an hour or two out where there's more land available, but would love any feedback you have. Keep up the good work.
I really like this video and the house. I've been wanting to do something like this. It's been hard to talk my husband into it. We would need to dig a storm shelter as well though as we live in tornado alley or we could move elsewhere because tiny homes are also not allowed here.
Nice new content
you should go and review Roman Attwood new laundry mat
Potentially in the works!
Awesome video. I love it.
Thank you very much!
can sad that this video only got 12k views, it a really good tho
Solid first attempt. Any counties in Ohio that don't have zoning laws?
Quite a few once you look outside of cities.
Hey I.J., my first time commenting. Love the Channel, great videos. I'm also Subscribed to Matt(GalaxyGames843), keep up the great content 👍🏽😎👍🏽
Wish i could do that in TN but they don't differentiate gray from black water so you have to treat all water coming out of a house :/
I think renting tiny homes is an good but I live in a place with a lot of tornadoes and storms. I’d be too worried it would fly away.
In my head I’m picturing my tiny house and a cow flying back like in the Wizard of Oz 😂
@@InvestmentJoy 🤣😂🤣
You probably may have a short in one of the solar panel, my guess.
That or I was thinking the polarity is reversed. Something is wrong. During the summer months I'm often hitting 14 KVA during the day. I'm close to 45 panels. This summer makes 6 years. 76 MWh so far. All that energy that normally would be going into the shingles.
how does the toilet not smell?
Sounds like someone has lost their shirt and is now living in a shed
Hey Investment Joy , very good video . I can do better editing in your videos which can help you to get more engagement in your videos . Pls lmk what do you think ?
Show me an example of your work that's edited as well as this.
for people who come to the comments before finishing this video. In all NO you cannot sustainably build yourself a tiny home for $15k. Wish that was just said. Started realizing math was not adding up once he said the toilet cost them 2500 alone.
This is the first iteration, I think in the future we could do one with solar for under $20k.
Ok so how do people shower when they stay at the tiny home?? 🤔
There are portable camping showers for sale on Amazon from $15-150+ I'd assume that people who live in houses like these use something like that or if they are super DIY then they make their own for cheep especially because they collect their own rainwater
have you given much thought too solar generator hooked to solar panels perhaps a Pecron 3000 system ......S
Next time I try this, i'll build the solar system first.
Interesting project but without real plumbing its just a shed.
Off grid is the goal!
@@InvestmentJoy Water collection and purification with a septic system and getting that solar system set up and it would be amazing.
Composting toilet? No hot water? No shower? What is the target market for this cabin? And you mention a sister-in-law and brother-in-law - I’m so confused. You say $179/night and then show the page showing $100/night.
off that $2k you need to subtract your costs, getting there to dump water, your brother no doubt drives a pick-up, gas, every time, plus your electric, you say you had the lot connected to electrical...
... not sure this is what you wanted, or that you did anything.... sounds to me like your brother took the shed off your hands, and kinda stole your idea because you were sitting on it...
There is zero insulation
You didn't notice the large rolls of Kraft backed rolled fiberglass?
@@InvestmentJoy my bad i missed it
damn , that took a long time :D the income is awesome for your BIL.
ps; a a shipping container with self contained battery/solar/water processing and you should be able to the build out to 6 units :D
