- Scott Toyguru Neitlich discusses Zodak, the first "second figure of the month" in the Masters of the Universe Classic line. How toys are made, great uses of redeco and repaint toys. Toy collecting and toy reviews for MOTUC
MOTU Classics made a dream of mine come true. I really, really wanted a Zodac with human feet and white gloves, but there was never a reason to think that was possible. Low and behold, he eventually turned up in a 2-pack with Green Lantern, and I love him!
What I did not get was why they did not use the Hordak gloves they also used for Zodak? If they would have made that, it would have been even more cartoon accurate. Now it only felt like that it was supposed to look like the Filmation Zodac in the 2-pack. But not real thought was behind it.
Can you adress this Scott? :)
Btw, love your videos. I watch each and everyone. Usually after dinner as a cool off.
The idea was this was NOT a 200X line. It would take influence from 200X but the creative brief if you will was to make the figures based on what the vintage toys would look like. Meaning, had Zodak been in the vintage line, he would have used those gloves.
Zodak is the only cosmic enforcer I actually like because he actually seems to fight for good rather than try to maintain balance. There's no "oh hey good guys you're too strong, time to kill some of you off to even the odds and prolong the conflict". Maybe he started that way, but his vendetta with the Snake Men gave him a lot more depth and motive leaning toward good. So I was really happy to get a Classics version of this guy. Thanks for helping it happen!
I would have loved to do more Cosmic Enforcers as toys. We did stick a few more in the mini comics for this reason
I always played OG Zodac as someone who had previously attained Grayskull and now operates on an entirely different and higher level so he could fight on either side but he was ultimately furthering the "good" agenda he just had access to a much bigger point of view. I didnt rationalize it so "eloquently " as a kid.
@@spectorcreative1872 Am I the only one who would like to see a MOTU "sidequel" based on the Cosmic Enforcers? With a completely original character as the protagonist, who is chosen to become a Cosmic Enforcer, so we see what Cosmic Enforcers actually do and we are introduced to other original characters and stories, while the "classic" characters and conflicts remain in the background.
Another great figure that is part of the greatest toy line ever! #wewantmoremotuc
That can not be argued!
I love this version! Also one of my favourite figures. I hope you and your family are safe and healthy Scott, take care!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Best to you as well!
One of my favorites from the early years of MOTUC. There's just something about this iteration of the character that is so cool.
I agree!
Zodak is definitely one of my favourites! Those glow-in-the-dark tattoos are awesome. Thanks, Terry! Just a pity the forehead tattoo on the unmasked head doesn't glow. :/
Ah, that is an interesting story into itself. The alt head that came with Strobo was done by a different designer and engineer years later and did not match the Glow in the Dark or even the skin tone correctly!
@@spectorcreative1872 Oh nooo, I hadn't noticed the skin tone before. Now I won't be able to un-notice it, haha. Thanks for that one, Scott! 😂 I kid! It's great to hear all of the little tidbits of info. If only the backs of the packages had listed credits for the individual figures! But I know it was tough to work with what you already had, packaging-wise, considering the budget!
Scott. I love the classics line. I am still collecting them any way I can this videos are extremely intresting to me it helped me to comprehend better. The history of the line and to disregard myths. We as a fans have from you I love all your videos ind thank you for giving us those wonderful figures and characters for so long The power of gray skull. Bless you
Glad you enjoyed it so much and thank you for the wonderful kinds words!
For many years, as I collected MOTUC, the only issue I ever had with the line as a stinging point was that Zodak didn't come with a helmet-less head sculpt as I always loved that he looked and kinda acted as Morpheus from the Matrix. So, I was so happy when that issue got rectified when his unhelmet head sculpt was finally released with Strobo. But , honestly, when I think of other figures that came with different head sculpts like Mer Man, Stinkor, and Moss Man, Zodak made more sense to come with the head sculpts because those characters basically had different facials with each head sculpt, but with Zodak, it was just a matter of what he looked like under the helmet. Anyways, glad it did happen when it finally happened.
Yup, releasing accessories with future figures was one of the things I loved the most about Classsics
This line have been truly a labour of love and thank you for making it possible Scott!
So many great people worked on this brand. Check out the "Meet the Matty's" video! Thanks for your kind words and support.
Wow. I never knew Mattel actually replaced people’s carpets. Crazy.
I know right! My parents could have used that.
Very cool!
Well thank ye
Zodak stole the 200X show. By far the other coolest hero to come out of MOTU since it's inception.
He was by far my favorite 200X character
Recently bought Mosquitor of the MOTU Origins and when I got home I was so surprised when the red in its chest started flowing (to simulate blood) and delighted that it did that.
Origins is a very cool line!
Zodak looks so bad ass. I hope he gets an origins release.
Thanks for including that helmet-less head with Strobo! It totally transforms him, much like the 200X head made Snout Spout look totally bad-ass!
Totally on purpose!
Yeah,he’s a very cool figure! I bought two of him since he had a twin brother in the MYP cartoon😎👍🏻👍🏻
I think Zeelar was his older brother.
Yeah, I don't think they were twins. But hey, more toys means more fun
His brother was his younger brother.
Another great video! Thank you! I loved this character, played to perfection by Christopher Judge, and this figure is dang nifty. I'm definitely going to have to look into glow-i-fying the helmetless head for this guy.
My favorite character from the 200X show!
That dude is powerful as heck !!!
Yup. With odd powers to boot
I think my mom would have taken advantage of that carpet replacement offer if she knew they'd do that LOL!. I always had to ask special permission to play with slime (usually for Ghostbusters) and it wasn't always forthcoming but when it was it was preceded with a lengthy process of covering the entire room in towels. Usually, I didn't even want to play with the slime by the time we were done (which come to think of it, may have been the entire point).
My parents too.
Zodak has powers similar to Marvel’s Inhuman Karnak. Maybe they changed the C to a K as an homage to Karnak?
Possible, but, well, I guess you never know!
the local howards store got so much MOTU slime canisters they were giving it out for free to any kid who walked through the door.
And Mattel replaced A LOT of carpet back in the day
Now you have me wanting Zodak in Origins. Honestly, what's your opinion on that character getting in the line?
Well it is an easy repaint but at this point…
6:41 Oh good, you noticed too
I see all
Spector Creative! Who were those other alt-He-man?! I only recognized Faker.
Well there is Wun Dar and Vikor for starters. See the He-Man Multiverse video for more!
I was thinking about the tattoos should be glow in the dark while listening to this driving down the road and then... you said he painted it in glow in the dark paint LOL
Terry is awesome
What's the story of that purple zodac from the loyal subjects line? Is that from a mini comic?
Not sure. I'll take a look
He's Zodac/k with the good hair.
Hair today
I remember in the beginning Zodak was labeled as "evil cosmic enforcer " on some packaging . Is this a false memory ?
Nope, you recall right. They changed it as a running change. Originally all the figures with pointy feet were "bad".
5:03 Faker, I know! But who are the green and black ones?!?! I NEED!!!!
Yeah not everything was possible as a toy in the line!
@@spectorcreative1872 but who are they?
@@unigenius the black one is anti-eternia He-man and I think the black one is slime pit He-man
Zodak was a pretty cool & powerful character, so as a black man, I really appreciated the 200X cartoon making him (I just wish they swapped out the white accent colors for the same gray as his boots) . I also liked the MOTUC fig, except for the fact that he didn't come w/ an alt unhelmeted head & his staff was underwhelming. But I guess including his alt head w/ another fig was a clever marketing ploy (too bad we never got the 200X staff). His powers are reminiscent of the Inhuman, Karnak (who's also tatted). And I agree, Zodak is superior to Zodac, both as a character & fig.
We did do an unhelmeted head! It came with Strobo.
@@spectorcreative1872 Yeah, I know. Which is why I later stated that I guess packing the alt head w/ another fig was a clever marketing ploy. It's kind of like the "Build A Figure" concept (kinda, sorta).
Some of us got accessories for figures we don’t have.
Also true.
So the term repaint is not to be taken literally? Unless you mean mixing color into already transparent plastic before it gets into the final mold. Cos every time you talk about the classic (green) goddess or the translucent/transparent Orko, I have to think about the first case of the so called Dunning-Kruger effect. Where one guy robbed two banks while he (re-)painted his face with lemon juice, which he believed would make him invisible to the surveillance cameras. Needless to say this didn't work.
Repaint just means offering the same tool in a new color
As much as i dislike race swapping characters just for the sake of doing it, in this case it really worked out for the better IMO.
As cool as Zodac always was, I always felt he was missing something, and what 200x did with him was badass...and I loved how he could stand toe to toe with He Man. He was like was like Morpheus of MOTU.
I totally see that too.
I too prefer the 2000x zodak
He was just so bad ass
I don't believe you that zodiac is one of your favorite characters. I would say your top favorite characters are beastman, trap jaw, scare glow and maybe even Keldor is in there
I didn't know you had access to my inner thoughts! Cool.
hi my brothers i live in Österreich-Vienna-and this figure Zodiak you cant buy ,Please can some Masters brother sell me this figure ? that where amazing my heart have since 88 the Masters inside
Try #collectorshelpingcollectors
So he was Batman.
Want to know his secret identity?
they should have just made a new character tbh so it wasn't so confusing lol
But where would the fun be in that!
How could they ethnically diverse Beast-Man, he’s not human. Lol.
Yeah, the concept art looked terrible.
@@spectorcreative1872 What did it look like?
Neither is Zodak (and referring to him as African-American is kinda odd since he is neither).
@@the_amazing_crappo Yeah, Zodak is not "African-American", Zodak is BLACK!
Referring to him as African-American reminds me of an autocorrect mistake where a sports article claimed that an athlete was wearing "an African-American ribbon" in sign of mourning!
