Elantra N driver here. Appreciate being in this video and seeing how my cars stacks up against the mighty Mk8 Golf R! That thing is definitely advertised at around 305-315 to the wheel with these new Mk8s, such an underrated car and better value than i would say than the CTR, Integra Type S and Corolla GR. Cant wait to hopefully do some more races in the future and get some good content for the channel!🤙🏼

I have same car the Elantra n is good car for the price But man I’ve had the jb4 on my car for about 20k miles works great and. It makes. A noticeable difference. On map2. Map 6 I make 22lbs boost and cars quick My 0-60 is about 4.4 Fastest I’ve gone was 4.0 0-60 that’s with me limiting the boost by gear with jb4.
This would be a good run for my stage 1 GTI. Those N models move along nicely.
OP, so you were in 19PSI here? Were you using NGS as well?
@MeltingRubberZ28 Yes, NGS every roll and my PSI would peak at 19 as soon as I hit the throttle and would stay at 17 PSI when fully pressed down
That Elantra N does have some cool quirkiness. Octane learning, 20 seconds boost, and crackles. It will definitely go down in history as a sleeper keeper.

Elantra N owner here. I have to say, I was surprised the rolls weren’t a little closer, but regardless, the best part of this video was the cool, casual, chill nature of both you guys. Because the EN driver let off as soon as he saw the R closing.
This confirms my hunch that the clips of ENs beating the Mk8 Golf R were of the manual R. Driver skill definitely could be a factor there, but I am pretty sure the DSG R beats the manual R in similar fashion to the races in this video. As such, it’s not unreasonable to think the DCT EN could keep up with the manual R.

I have 2023 Golf R with the 6 speed manual. The Golf R with the DSG is so much quicker due to the quick shifts and have 295 torque compared to the 280 torque with the 6 speed manual. I just enjoy playing with the car with the 6 speed so did not get the DSG. I am almost 74 years old so racing is way in my past life! My Nephew has 2022 Elantra N 6 speed manual and have ridden in his car and is fun car to be sure. He loves it and keeping it stock as well to not void his warranty. We need more people in the car community like you guys. I was choosing between and EN and a Golf R when buying my car, ultimately went for a 6 speed EN due to the price, but the car has exceeded my expectations. I may or may not have voided my warranty a year ago though 👀

Your videos are always entertaining and informative. Keep making more! I recently bought a 2023 Golf R DSG (Base) and have just clocked 1000 miles. I started pushing the car a bit and noticed that I am getting a hissing wind noise at 70+ MPH on the driver's side. I was wondering if you have experienced the same?
I only have a hissing noise when my window is down and there’s a cross wind outside. When my window is up, no noise
dude, so awesome to see you put this race together. Love both cars. DSG sounds nice... i think you can beat on the Elantra's DCT more because it's a wet clutch, tho.
The DQ381 in the R is also wet clutch. Pretty robust units in general.

@@karmahunden Volkswagen was the first car manufacturer to put a dual clutch in a production car in the early 2000s. The only dry clutch units are some low output eco models from Europe. Maybe like some Jettas 1.4 litters and maybe like the Taos uses it also but GTI and R are wet clutches and can take a tons of abuse as stated above
My stage 2 mk8 gti sits at about 350 HP and 400 TQ. From a dig, the R would smoke me, but I would love to see if I can keep up from a roll. If you are ever in the Portland area, I'd love to see what happens.

great runs, ngs witch is like a sport response button porsches or whatever its called, it gives you extra boost witch is super cool, i wish more car manufacturers did this kinda thing , for a car to have that at that price is amazing. A jb4 tune would certainly wake it up. porbably would tie the golf r or be a little bit faster, wish it wasnt fwd tho, it does struggle to get of the line. but overall the elantra n is a sweet car, stil would take the mk8 golf r tho.
EN is built to a price point. Golf R is $30k more expensive in Australia. Priced like a V8 Mustang or Kia Stinger. The fact it's even competitive is insane.

Elantra N owner here. You absolutely stomped that Elantra from a dig. Beat it pretty good from a roll also from what I saw.😊. I love the Golf R, But if I were to get one it would definitely be with the manual transmission. I don't care how much slower it is in a straight line. I just can't have fun in a car that's an automatic. I chose to get the six speed for the Elantra N because I like to row through my own gears. I enjoy taking mine to the roadcourse too. If I wanted a decently quick in a straight line, new, and was automatic.. I would be in a tesla model 3 performance. The golf r would be a really good choice too with the automatic for straight line speed and value.

Elantra N with DCT did better than Type R. That is a good car for the $.

@davothegreat9990 I agree, but value/$ comparison may show otherwise. We have a 2023 Golf R and a 2022 Audi S3, and I take both our cars over Type R and Elanta N. For real-world practicality, Golf R and Audi S3 do what they do best, day in and day out, rain or shine. Try accelerating in the rain with either of those front wheel drives, and you will regret buying one. Even on the track, the advantage of a Type R is so negligible that the outcome is more driver dependant than car dependant. Type R is a great car, but its mystic is nothing but hype (it is a great "front wheel drive" car).

It's a fun car and luckily many CZcamsrs that have reviewed it and many many magazines that have reviewed it give it great reviews. Reminds me of the Neon SRT-4 when it came out late 2002. But with a more refined interior and suspension.

Are you running in ring mode ? It has the highest boost i found i got my best times at the track in ring mode
I don’t run in that mode when roll racing because I want the car to automatically upshift since I’m holding the GoPro with one hand.
I ran my car multiple times and day in Race and Ring mode and my best times and trap speed was always in race mode. I doubt it’s making any more boost either. Would be seen on dyno runs or track runs by now
@@mqbr22 I'm in nothern bc and have the 23 anniversary and was mid 13s and ring mode was my best at 13.13 I'm almost 400lb hahha so can get better times If I lose a few

Drove both. And went with EN. Came from wrx I do miss awd turbo. En was more fun than r. Honestly r is a great car but for some people like me, it feels too refined. And not fun like wrx. I think even awd, you cannot ignore all time awd vs situational awd
You should Race Bluprint 1LE's Camaro sometime, I think he's out in your neck of the woods.
I think he’s in Arizona by what I’ve seen.. plus, a 1LE Camaro should beat my car pretty easily with 140 more horsepower with only 250lb weight difference.
@@JVette01 Yeah he is, I know he's willing to drive to Vegas to make content so if you're anywhere nearby I'm sure he'll be down, plus his car is manual and I think if you do a 40 roll you should beat him pretty easily, 60 roll will be more challenging.
Camaro manuals are still fast as long as the driver is good. I’m always down to race but that will be a pretty easy W for the Camaro
@@JVette01 Lol I don't want to bash our guy Bluprint but lets just say he's still learning, roll racing and drag racing is till new to him so I honestly believe it would be a good race, especially from a dig or a 40, I think you'll win the dig if it's a quarter mile easily.

It’s simple R wins drag and N wins circuit
No it doesn’t win. Car and Driver lightning lap for the MK8 R is 3:04 sec and Elantra N is 3:07 sec. There is a lot of other circuit tests online that it also lost but you get the idea
@@mqbr22 I saw some that the N won, all depends who drives the cars and tires there on and circuits there on, the N is more track focus then they R , I drove both and the N is more fun to drive. You can’t compare a AWD vs FWD and the horsepower are not even the same lol of course the R will will the 0-60 its freaking AWD. Both cars have good and bad things and there great cars in the own way
@@bradmorin5427 Talking about tires the Elantra N had Michelin Pilot P4S tires in both of those races while the R just had the Hankook Ventus S1 cheap summer tire. Both cars driven by professional race car driver. Don’t get me wrong the Elantra N is one heck of a deal for the money and it’s very capable too
@@mqbr22The Lightning Lap is not the only track test out there. Go check out the video from SavageGeese comparing the EN, GR Corolla, CTR, Golf R, and STI S209. They were all put on the same tires. Everyone there, including a professional race car driver, said the Elantra N is a better track car than the Golf R. On top of having a faster time at that track, they said the Elantra N has much better driver engagement, feedback, and feels more confidence-inspiring.
I love both the Golf R and the Elantra N. Both are monsters. I just think people are too quick to doubt the EN. It’s impressive that the EN can even compete with a car like the R, let alone beat it on some tracks.
@Symphoniics that EN wasn't octane learned either and it still beat the Golf R
Fun to watch. Not an even match any way you look at it. The Golf R is AWD and has over 25+ more HP and you're racing from a dig. Also the Golf R costs about $7000 more. 91 octane limits the N vehicles because 93 gives an extra 1-2 PSI of boost as well. I would say it would have been a better match with a Golf GTI with intake and exhaust or a manual Golf R. I'd love to see a rematch with the Elantra when he gets a JB4 on Map 1 (91+ octane). That will bring his boost to 19-21 PSI octane learned. I have a Kona N with a JB4 on Map 1 or Map 2 (93+ octane) here in Texas and its a dramatic difference with 93 octane learned. Cool video!

The N traps 107-109 in normal conditions to get it 111mph it needs perfect conditions, the mk8 traps high because it's awd. The 60-130 is what tells you how fast these cars are.
Price..... Elantra will be better if we spend the rest or at least half for tuning of elantra. Golf will have no chance. And it will still be more expensive to use
Fwd is wrong wheel drive. Mod for mod, R will win all day every day!! Money is subjective.

Car and Driver has the Elantra N DCT doing a 1/4 mile of 13.4 at 106 mph and Car and Driver has the MK8 R DSG at a 1/4 mile of 12.5 at 111 mph. His video shows exactly that. I myself did a 12.4 at 109.8 mph at a drag strip. Video posted on my page and he did a 12.5 at 110 mph with his Dragy also posted
@mqbr4695 that time for the EN was likely at 15PSI. Octane learned is 19 and with NGS some hit 20PSI. Hence why they are very close.
@@MeltingRubberZ28 Maybe but in this video the owner confirmed it was octane learned and from what I saw it looked like a 3-4 mph difference in trap speed. It wasn’t very close in the video here
Value and performance for money I don't think golf R is worth it. They go for $51K new and barely have more hp then EN. You can get a tune and few bolt ons and still save $15K
But still be front wheel drive and way less features/quality
@@JVette01 what features? You can costumes EN as much as you want, front exhaust sound to suspension to steering, to engine aggressiven. In golf R you have to pay $2-5K for acrapovic exhaust on top of $52K plus fees and taxes and make ups just to sound good not to mention other mods. It's a completely L deal

the golf r with the DSG literally has a 3.9 second 0-60 the elantra n is a 5.1 second 0-60 wym the elantra will give the golf a run for its money

I don’t know what Edmunds was doing there, but it is clearly the outlier amongst numerous other videos of the EN leaving the GTI in the dust.
Now regarding the EN vs the 8R, It’s likely that the various clips of the EN keeping up with the 8R are against the manual R.
