Flying wave is just so incredibly beautiful. Being as high as commercial airliners without engine (noise) and seeing those clouds is just pure bliss
Nice words :)
I can't imagine the temperatures and low pressures at 5.5 km. Negative 20°C, 25-30% air pressure. Pretty scary stuff. :)
I used to glide for 10 years. I haven't been in a glider for some 15 years now. Of all your videos, this video almost brought tears to my eyes. A full, full day of stress free wave gliding well above cloud level and landing at night... everything you are not suppose to do yet.... everything that makes gliding feels sooo good. There is such an amazing tingle in your fingers from how good this feels.
.
Thanks for the video.
Wow, I´m overwhelmed. Thank you!
I feel with you! My father was glider instructor in our club. im summer we have been there every weekend. He owned a Elfe S4D and later ASW20L.
On that airport I learned walking, riding the bike and even driving the car (pickung up the ropes from the winch). When I was 13 and close to start my training, my father had a stroke and everything changed, as he wasnt even able to walk properly.
I never again sat in a glider......Stefan I watched a couple of you videos....and I started crying.
Not sure if I can do my license one day. Not even sure if it works technically. I am 2,00m and 120kg
@@DayLight9382 don’t ever give up man! One day, you’ll achieve your goals
@@DayLight9382 if you lose 10kg, you are good to go.
Most planes have a payload around 110kg.
I am 1,93m tall, it really depends on your proportions. I have relatively short leg and a tall upper body which is a bit problematic. I think the Asw 20 would be a good plane for you. Do the step and go to the nearby gliding club and ask if you are allowed to sit in their double seatet trainer and if it fits somehow do your license.
Good luck 😊
@@linusseits9790 ok 110kg is not to much to loose.....I think thats something I can go for! Thank you so much!

Flight costs comparison
FS2020: 120€
Real life: 70 € (including a more realistic flight model)
Hahaa, nice one!
Plus the cost of a glider 😏😏😏😏
The sim is a one time cost.
ahahaha its not true at all :) to do this solo you need some training and a lot of flying hours :)
@@gliderfs621 and maintenance
thats so beautiful honestly thank you for sharing this with us man
The smell of the Wilga (radial) is definitely something memorable. I guess it's the burnt oil, which is no secret it does a lot.
Should be getting my gliding licence fairly soon cant wait to experience things like this
Thanks for taking us along for the ride, beautiful shot 7.00 flying into the sun above the clouds. I would imagine it would be something very special to experience that up there on your own with only the sound of air rushing by your canopy.
It definitely is special! Also for me it was the first time beeing in a wave above Germany.
Awesome video, Thank you for sharing! Beautiful views!
It’s Christmas 2023 I just enjoyed this documentary 26 years of flying this will never get old ; well done . Hope you are still doing this !!!
Magical! Can’t wait to get back in the air.
This winter will be long... also for me
Ausgezeichnet! Beautiful balanced turns!
Amazing video as always!
Einfach beeindruckend und das alles mit einem Segler.
OH MY GOD! I can't believe what I have seen! ON A CZcams VIDEO! That is a amazing view. And the wing flex makes it so much better! The clouds and the outside view. Seeing you in there as well gave me a shock too. It's my first time ever seeing this. It must be a strange feeling being up there and realizing how many people don't get the chance to see this amazing sight. Awesome videos. Keep up the amazing work and the good flying!
Sauschöner Flug! Heftige Aufnahmen von da oben🔥
Danke dir! 🤙🏼
That was a good job. I really enjoy your video, need more like this, keep it on, and good luck.
Thank you! Will do so ;)
太美了!
So beautiful views, thank you!
WOW! Great views from 5500 level! I want more!! :)
Wunderschoen! Another GREAT video - THANKS Stefan! As far as the cost of a flight like this, let me just put it this way..."many people know the price of everything, but the VALUE of nothing." in 50 years, the memory of flights like this will endure, and I've been lucky to have quite a few similar flights in other aircraft. Life is short, follow your dreams and don't even hear the nay-sayers. Since my first solo in 1979 at age 16 in a 1947 Piper J-3 Cub, every time I've been blessed to strap into an aircraft, it's been special. I've been so lucky to have had a 27-year military career and now 10+ years of civilian flying in so many different aircraft types. Did my first glider solo in an ASK-13 in Germany back in 1985...that being said, flying gliders has always been my favorite. THANKS for the videos - Hals und Beinbruch!
Großartige Aufnahmen 👍🏼
If by landing on a runway he means landing in a grassy field, then yes. :D Awesome video soaring above the clouds!
truly amazing !
My Gosh man that was awesome!
I really wish you could explain how the wave flying works and how to get the best out of it. Great video anyhow
Stay tuned for the next video 😉

When I remember right LSV Flachkurbler made one or two videos concerning this topic
@@SteFly did you encounter any rotors? that's my biggest fear of wave flying
@@GTroy fly with an experienced pilot to get rid of the fear and learn how to manage the situation. Rotors can be very weak or very strong in different situations. One month ago i flew in a pretty violent Rotor snd the wave above it was weak... this was my worst aerotow i've ever experienced. The rope was pretty much slack multiple times and even hang beside the canopy for a second. Next time i will disconnect from the tow plane and land and try again on another day.
You need to have respect of a rotor, but fear is dangerous and wrong. You need to be experienced in tow start and windy conditions. If you do not feel well and can return to the airport safely you can always disconnect. It means you have the control and the responsibilty to operate your aircraft safely and fight the fear.
Very nice, thanks for charing!
Next level keep it up bro
Wow wow wow! I'm impressed. Just got started with gliding at 15 yrs, looking forward to fly alone :)
(mountain) wave flying is recommended after 1,000h flight expierience. And if you manage 100h flight time a year, i think you would be way above average...
Getting into wave can be very hard and dangerous. The rotors that form below the cloud are very bumpy.
At this location in Germany it was relatively relaxed...
@@SteFly Im also only 15 years old and i want to try getting into Gliding.
I have some Questions:
1. Do you need Mountains in order to wave glide? And if yes can you go up to 3.000m only using thermals?
2. Can you fly into a big cumulus cloud or are the turbulences to extreme / are there any clouds you should avoid flying into.
3. At which level of altitude do gliders normally fly? And when do you need Oxygen on Board.
Very nice Stefan!
Thanks Tim. Enjoy your flying in NZ :)
Cool stuff!
Just incredible!!!
Wow, I got this recommended and you are flying over my hometown haha... Thats so cool! :D
Wonderful flight. I fly paraglider and paramotor and I always feel like staying too long on these special flights. Thank-you. Jerry
damn! I thought you were playing it on from simulator and it tends to be a real flight hahaha...looks fun amazing view! I wanna see more of your vids man just relaxing from watching you flight.
Nice video man! Just keep doing it!
Thank you! Comments like this are motivating :)
Wurde auch mal Zeit das du Welle fliegst ;) Mega Aufnahmen!
Ja, wirklich. Danke Dir!
This was awsome!!!
Thank you!!
I really like the sunset views at that moment we'll feel like we're in heaven
I hate you, because now you've made me go gliding every weekend! 😭😂
That´s fine to me :D
Do you get a parachute and is the risk of death high?
@@yomo68 Yes, no.
the proudness of you saying flight level 181. So insanely cool. I remember the feeling of reaching my first 1000m of altitude gain. This must be a crazy sensation
Haha, yeees! I was feeling like a big pilot :D
That thing looks scary. There is no engines or nothing. I plan to do the Mig-29 flight at some point. Those Russian pilots though, they do low altitude stunts!
Nice flight
Amazing flight
Wonderful!
Nice video! Danke :D
One of my training flights in Lasham UK in the 90s, which happens to be one of the last ones of the day, I was up about 2000 plus feet, there was a thin layer of mist which reflected the orange sunset. Importantly I could see the usual landmarks I'm used to. The beauty of the sunset over a a thin "carpet" of orange never left my memory.....
Nice Video I already Seen the complete
Love the wilga
amazing video bro :)
somehow recommended to me.. but great view and great flight😯. i never thought glider would be that fun.
I was thinking, great sunset, but then I thought, dude, it's going to be dark when you get down again. I wasn't wrong! Great video.
I'm glad he didn't wait another minute to descend! That scared me a bit ....
We are allowed to land about 30 mins after sunset. But that´s really dark ;)
👍. You mentioned in the video how long before you had to get on the ground so I knew it had it covered!
Great vid 👍🏻
good air sound
This makes me wanna learn how to fly and get a glider sooooooooooooooooo badly
How high did the Wilga take you before cutting loose? Gliders are amazing....astonishing.
Wahnsinn, Welle ist einfach Surreal...! :)
Oh ja!
You are def living the Dream up there
Feels so unreal to watch the own video afterwards. Was also my first time beeing up there so high in Germany. At the next day I reached 6600 m. Video will be online soon ;)
AMAZING
Wish i could go Wave flying as well one day 😊
Stefan, I love your videos, now gliding is in my dreams and that’s your fault ahaha
I can live with this :D
Nice video good day
Beautiful glider m8
I was hoping for some cloud surfing :) Awesome views.
Epic video (even better that you shared with us, your loyal followers). If you allow me, please let's save a prayer to another fellow of skies: Balleka.
Epic!
As Usual....
ahh nice thats amazing
Nice ACD :-)
まじで綺麗、美しい。
i mean really beautiful
Has the wilga a slower stallspeed than the glider, since it takes off first? Or are you pushing nose down to take off later on purpose?
Could be the case
Hi Stefan, Is the ACD as good as it looks? Would you use it and ditch the analogue altimeter aka Bruno Vassel? By the way it looks absolutely fantastic compared to the analogue altimeter!!! Thanks for the superb videos!
Beautiful view on the Thuringian Forest in the last Part. Did you fly over Ilmenau? I'm studying there :)
Yes, I flew above Ilmenau. ;)
3:47 Polish Wilga, respect 😁
When you know Mt Everest is 8848m high.
Crazy when you think about it.
yeta hamro desh ma pani gliders hunu parne ni 😛
Nice flight ..would have been cool if there were classic lennies lined up...soaring is a box of chocolates. . Still sweet
wow!
Wowwwwwwwwww! 😮
The views are wonderful!!!! 😍😍😍 you fly often at this height?
Nice sir i am your subscriber👏👏👏👏
Love
Sunset at 5500m = dark ground indeed ;)
Wave flying is so cool...and soooo smooooth ;) Rotors...not so much :p
Wave soaring is great :-) And the nose cannula makes the use of oxygen much easier
So true!
You really got only 1 life in this. No respawns
@StefanLanger how did you climb so high so early in the morning? Thermal or Wilga?
@@danizweifler6061 Auch wenn der Flug in Realität 300 € oder mehr gekostet hat, er war es WERT :D
@@SteFly Hallo Stefan !.... Dude, this is probably the coolest random thing I've stumbled into on CZcams. Its so quiet and chill up there.
Do you need Mountains in order to Wave Glide?
And can you get this high only using thermals?
@Stefan, did you need a special permit to fly at this height? I thougt it would be allowed only to commercial-aircrafts?
Good 👍
He paid 70 euros for a car, a garage, a trailer, a driveway, the gas it took him to get to place, costs to actually use the runway, and most importantly, the fucking glider.
Восхитительно. Брависимо.
How difficult was it to find the wave lift? Where we fly (East Coast - USA), it can be very difficult to find the entry point. The couple of times I found it last year, I started in a very bumpy thermal and it transitioned to glass smooth wave lift. I'd be interested in seeing how you fly through rotor (if you did). The one time I did that, I thought my wings would come off.
For me it was the first wave flight in Germany. At the beginning I struggled a lot because I was not patient enough. The Skysight wave forecast was really good and there were also othre gliders who helped me to find the wave. I did not really fly through a rotor.
WOW!!!
Is that triangle on your display at 7:17 a depiction of the designated glider airspace?
Really cool!
I don't understand though, they sold you a glider without the altitude device? seems unreasonable (unless I misunderstood something)
At 4:36 your camera has the same frame rate as the propeller of the plane. Also pretty cool. ;-) But the flight itself was amazing of course.
Hallo Stefan,
Ein tolles Video💪🏻💪🏻👍🏻👍🏻
In welchem Airspace seid Ihr da unterwegs?
@Stefan Langer, Amazing Video, really nice. how long was the flight!
Thank you! This flight was 4:45 h. Have a look at the flightlog here: www.onlinecontest.org/olc-3.0/gliding/flightinfo.html?dsId=8213945

glass cocpit and inbuild (?) oxygen ? Gliders have develop over the years. Nice flight you had - grats.
Nice video. Only 70€ for all this equipment? Amazing.
