I think you chose well - it looks beautifully simple and classic. I'd choose exactly that size and spec except I'd like a plain, white face (stick minute markers, not roman numerals) and that's only available with the 41mm - really frustrating as I really only want the 36mm. I wear a milgauss on an 8.5" wrist and I think that the 40mm is about my minimum. Saying that a 36mm is the way to go as a blanket statement ignores that some people need or simply prefer a slightly larger watch. The 36mm on you looks much like a 41mm DJ looks on me, in fact a 36 looks a little larger on you than a 41mm dj looks on me. Some people wear watches that are too big for them, no one cares that tony soprano wore a 36mm, simply let people wear the size that feels most comfortable for them.

36mm has become a unisex model!
My girl friend wears a solid gold and 2 tone daytona, a 2 tone yaht master which are 40 mm models. I acquired a DJ 41 rhodium diamond dial with the jubilee bracelet for her as her daily wearer.
I wear a 116610ln as my daily and DJ 41 in th3 azzuro blue as my dress watch. I even find the 40mm daytonas as smallish for me.
The 36 mm has become what the 31mm was, a smallish unisex watch.
That's why they are much more readily available models at your AD. The used market also reflect less desirability and value retention for the all 36mm models across the Rolex line.

Frankly, the 36mm is now relegated to the being a unisex model at best.
My girl friend wears 40mm and 41mm model quite nicely. Solid gold and 2 tone daytonas , 2 tone yaht master which are all 40mm. I recently picked up a DJ41 rhodium diamond dial for her as well. She wears then with no problems to the respective watch proportions. The used watch markets also reflect the greater popularity and the desirability of the 41mm over 36mm model all across the board.
36mm may be more available, because the 41mm is more coveted.
36mm has become what the 31mm was before. A smaller less desirable version of the DJ and the daydate as well.
