    I was done with mine when the new diamond back exhaust was put on the broken bolts where drilled out and through bolts was used and it works great. Sounds good and looks good. 👍😎

    1:31 in and had to pause to say SWEET!!! Lol i work as a mechanic at a crane company and had to replace an old worn out exhaust system on our freightliner. So when it was all off i fired that bad boy up to see and was surprised... i actually think my old Chevy 350 was louder.
    I ran my 6.5TD with no intake to check for fuel leaks. That was loud.
    Thanks for the video. Back to watching

    I broke 5 of 6 of my bolts off and no amount of welding nuts on would get them off. I drilled them out with brand new cobalt drill bits stepping up in size gradually. I ended up just drilling all the way through and running a nut and a bolt on the other side of the flange. so far no problems and no leaks... Also love the Falcon.

      Epic Cars awesome! Hey have you heard about the “PMD” people say on the 6.5 you should relocate them?

    • @EpicCars
      @EpicCars  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes. I specifically chose a pre 1994 truck because it has mechanical injection rather than computer controlled so I don’t have a pmd. But it is a easy fix. They placed it in the valley of the intake which gets very hot. Just get an extension and relocate to a cooler location. Easy job. I talk about that more in the Worst Diesels Ever: 6.5 Diesel video a put out a few months ago. Take a look at it and it will help with your upgrade options.

    She sounds great! Another trick to possibly get those broken bolts out would be to buy some left hand drill bits and try to drill them out if theres room. The left hand ones work good for extracting bolts because as they weaken sometimes the drilling will catch them enough to make them spin out. Then theres no thread repair needed on your manifold

    • @joeyelswick1796

    yes the crossover is needed for the turbo to spin, but i heard about some removed turbo and used a blower instead.. then you also get the sweet V8 sound

  • @ulyssesornelas627
    @ulyssesornelas627 Před 3 lety +1

    i had the same issue with my bolts shearing off. I removed the manifolds to have better access to the threads. Took a Torch to it just to warm it up-applied pb blaster-did that a few times over a couple of days. Then on the 5th day i welded my channys to the thread(broken bolt) and my torched it red hot and just started cranking on it. Back n forth spraying more pb heating it up till it nearly melts. It was the biggest P.in my A..But patience and perseverance paid off. I will say though, next time- i will just buy em- new.

    I watched some of your other videos, and you do a great job of filming and explaining. This particular system to me is a bit too loud, on the hi-ways. Don't like yelling at passengers to hold a conversation. Plus I prefer a stick shift. I have an 83 dually and 93, both with 6.2s. Your videos are helpful. Thanks for posting.

      joe quillun thanks for the comments. I agree that the more I have driven as my daily the loudness can be an issue at times. Mainly the vibration from the downpipe rubbing against something in the engine bay or firewall. I will be digging into that in upcoming videos. And yes, would definitely prefer a manual trans. I am actually looking into a swap at the moment to see how hard it would be to do. Autos are nice but for what I will be using this rig for, a manual trans would be perfect. Thanks again.

      I believe the NV 4500 is the OD of choice for your rig. It would be an awesome conversion. My 83 dually has 4.10s, and an SM465, (no OD) and I'm thinking about a Ranger conversion. No fun having to drive 55,
      even the trucks and buses fly by me.

    What Walapop said was a great idea. Unfortunately when I did mine I too broke a bolt. I got frustrated with just one. Lol
    So I threw in the towel and just drilled that puppy out. I put on a bolt and a nut on the other side and cinched her up good. Its not my cleanest work.... but it goth the job done.
    I seriously doubt thats Blow by. It does make me wonder about the timing.
    You might get that checked. Could be injectors.... could be alot of things actually. But the good news is none of them are very bad fixes. Just can be time consuming troubleshooting it. Kris Stratton and John Faddis are the experts there. You might give them a shout on Facebook.

    • @EpicCars
      @EpicCars  Před 5 lety

      I think that is what I will end up doing. Just drilling them out and putting a bolt through and nut on the manifold side. I tried the left hand bits and could not get them to take. Not sure if the stud is just too hard from repeated heating and cooling from the engine. I would have thought they would be more brittle, I mean they broke but trying to drill them out was not working. Will work on this weekend. Thanks for the comments

    I was warned about those bolts when I working on my 94 6.5. I found that if you spray them down with rustoleum rust dissolver and let it sit for a day, then hit it with some PB blast. It made the bolts significantly easier to break free. In fact I got 2 of them out without much trouble. For the others I made a brass hammer for my impact and just whacked the crap of them for a few minuets each. This shocked the treads and hit them with some more PB blast. In the end I managed to get them out but it was a pain and about a week long process. Out of curiosity did you put anti seize on the bolts when you put them back in? Anyone know if that makes it easier the next time you have to remove these buggers?

    • @EpicCars
      @EpicCars  Před 4 lety

      Byron Wieneke thanks for the comments. Yes, the bolts are buggers. I did put anti seize back on them in case I ever have to take them off again. Hopefully I won’t have to find out. Thanks for watching.

      These are a great motor if taken care of. I recommend going to quadstar tuning for all your 6.5 needs. His tunes are AMAZING and he has some awesome turbos that wake these trucks up. I would talk to him about a tune and a manual wastegate for the turbo. But whatever you do. Don’t go any further then 12-15 psi these factory turbos are just big hot air compressors past 15 psi.

  • @corydrent8056

    • @nou8257
      @nou8257 Před 5 lety +1

      The 6.5 uses a borg warner turbo so it has no silencer and yeah without the drive side exhaust manifolds help its not gonna spool the turbo fast enough
