    BIG BOY No. 4014
    From Union Pacific’s web page
“BIG BOY No. 4014 -Twenty-five Big Boys were built exclusively for Union Pacific Railroad, the first of which was delivered in 1941. The locomotives were 132 feet long and weighed 1.2 million pounds. Because of their great length, the frames of the Big Boys were "hinged," or articulated, to allow them to negotiate curves. They had a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement, which meant they had four wheels on the leading set of "pilot" wheels which guided the engine, eight drivers, another set of eight drivers, and four wheels following which supported the rear of the locomotive. The massive engines normally operated between Ogden, Utah, and Cheyenne, Wyo.
There are seven Big Boys on public display in various cities around the country. They can be found in St. Louis, Missouri; Dallas, Texas; Omaha, Nebraska; Denver, Colorado; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Green Bay, Wisconsin; and Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in December 1941. The locomotive was retired in December 1961, having traveled 1,031,205 miles in its 20 years in service. Union Pacific reacquired No. 4014 from the Rail Giants Museum in Pomona, California, in 2013, and relocated it back to Cheyenne to begin a multi-year restoration process. It returned to service in May 2019 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad’s completion.

Bruce should be designated a National Treasure! He single handedly solved SO many problems throughout the restoration of 4014s boiler.

17:50 Bruce knows his stuff. One of the guest here is Alex from RRHMA he will be replacing #3985's bolts in a few weeks when the 261 Crew gets back from Mexico after taking the Empress down there. On #3985 and Big Boy the Sleeve Caps are welded into the shell on #844 they are screw type for easy maintenance. When Steve Lee and John Rimmasch ran Steam Shop they welded everything on. Because of this Steve Lee was given early retirement, Jack Wellmann was sent to Oregon Steam, and Scott Nixon, Brandon Turner, and Charlie Cross were fired and later sent to prison. They were replaced by Austin Barker, Garland Baker, and Jeremy Thompson. Also Ed got Bruce out of retirement, Ted and Kurt were bought back although Ted no longer fires the engine, and several new crew members were hired. If there is one man in Steam Shop who knows boilers it is Bruce he has made all the tools since he is a gunsmith by trade.

That what you see there is the PTC software if we want to see these beautiful machines last we must comply with modern regulations. It’s neat seeing modern technology with Alco superpower

@@DanielWorthy-zc3bc I'd be curious what it's doing. I imagine it's tracking temp. and pressure at different locations. I can't think of what else there is to keep track of, maybe dynamo voltage.

@@bigredc222 PTC doesn’t regulate or look over any of those things PTC is a network that is linked with the signal systems to safeguard against unwarranted movement under CTC (Controlled Traffic Control) PTC can give a penalty, emergency brake application if Engineer doesn’t comply with speed restrictions or signal indications. Also can stop other trains movements if they aren’t complying with signal indications either. It’s more of a computerized failsafe for unauthorized movement or speed. Before they had the the diesel to comply with PTC and faked it out with the steam engine for the added length and axle count. Now big boy is capable of its own PTC without a diesel.

@@DanielWorthy-zc3bc I should have looked up what PTC stood for before I commented. That's makes a lot more sense. Thank you.

Wonder if it can get 4014 to play Fortnite? 🤣🤣 Maybe next we'll get ditch lights!
