I have one of these 1963's and they are neat little things. People often don't realize the oil/fuel mixed changed in '64, so worried it may have been run on 50:1. Anyways, Redid the carb and water pump, fuel lines, pump gasket, thermostat, plugs, etc. Gets my 14 ft john up to 8.5 mph on the river. I only have 65 psi on the comp test, but identical in both cylinders, so kinda wary about cracking it open...any thoughts?
lol I remove the cam every time!! Never had one crack... The water pump housing however.. 90% of the time the bolts are seized in there and i have to grind them out
I have a few of those laying around ! Lol. Around here they might sell for $ 250 completely serviced out the door running perfect ! Someone dropped off a 1976 6hp w/ 2 tanks for FREE ! It was stuck and the buffoon broke the vertical throttle shaft and of course broke the exhaust cover that holds it on ! WOW ! Well it’s not stuck now and waiting for my gaskets ! Some people should never own gas powered equipment !
I just sold one on Friday for $400CAD. It was in very good condition and ran like a top. Here in southern Ontario the 6hp are very popular but the 5 1/2's are less so. But they are getting a little harder to find now in good shape.
of that year they should be!! just check your drive shaft length and clearance! check out my channel if you like brandon's content and consider subscribing to mine! thanks.
No, the 5.5 will has a shock absorber of sorts in the lower, where the 6 would not. Different housing, different driveshaft... they look identical, but they are not.
Cool old motor. Love to see the old one brought back to life.
I Always enjoy your videos. Great work

Electrolysis on that.
Yea Electrolysis and a good brass wire wheel would work wonders. I have cleaned lot of rusty tools that way.
Have you ever rebuilt a motor completely from parts which were not broken, but were bad enough to not reuse?
Well, not rebuilt, but I have assembled a motor completely from other engines. A complete Frankenstein.
The club I belong to have meets and we have a contest for the ugliest running motor ! My buddy has won it 4 years in a row ! Lol
Is the johnson 5.5hp & the evinrude 6hp the same lower unit in parts & all?
