Fully serviced and tuned up 2 years ago. Just dewinterized for the season. Excellent trolling motor. Not a fast motor but is a very good reliable runner. Located in SE Michigan.
kramden That's a perfect description of this motor. It has been absolutely reliable and an excellent troller. It's not fast but it will get you there and back. Thanks Don!
Yes, the water outlet / tell tale is the exhaust relief hole at the midway point on the leg above the water line. There is no pee stream on these motors. Thanks for watching!
60 is kind of low, but with it even on both cylinders it will run OK. You may want to check it with another gauge just to be sure. If your gauge is from Harbor Freight, they read notoriously low. Around 80-90 is about where a typical 5.5 should be in my experience. Thanks for watching!
@@claytonfowler857 You're welcome. If you're getting 60 on a HF gauge, I'd guess you'll see around 75-80 on a Bosch or some other reputable gauge. You may just want to tune it up and run it. It may surprise you. 👍
@@oldjohnnyrude8404 awesome hopping to do a good tune up and after running good maybe a new paint job love these old 5hp my dad has a 65 5hp ld still going strong today
Hello I have some question I cant get my 1962 johnson 5.5 motor to stay running. It keeps shutting off. Do you have any pointers? I would appreciate it
I'll need a little more detail about what it is doing or a video of it running and stopping. I will try to help if I can. I go through all my motors whit a full tune up service when I get them and have a bit of experience troubleshooting them. Thanks for watching!
What propeller is on it? I have the exact same but when I put it in gear it won’t rev as high as it does in neutral. It has crazy pitch on the propeller
It just has the stock 2 blade semi weedless 5.5hp prop. If you're having trouble with yours reaching full rpm when in gear on the boat, you may have a 7.5hp prop on yours. They look very similar but the 7.5 prop will definitely make a 5.5 lug. Thanks for watching!
@@sbranham86 the stock props often had no marking or the part number is cast inside the prop near the hub on the face toward the gearcase. It is often very hard to see or obliterated by dirt, grease, etc. They are very hard to tell apart if you're not used to looking at them. Even i have to compare them sometimes to be sure.
They made a bunch of them. Best bet to find a hood though is to check EBay, Craigslist and local sales to find a parts motor. You could try posting a want ad in the Free Classifieds on AOMCI.ORG also. That may turn something up at a decent price. Thanks for watching!
How much could you sell it for??? I have one in the basement & need to sell it. I'm now 86 years old & no longer able to get in a boat. Legs just don't work as good in the past? Thanks for your help.!!
Fully serviced and tuned up, this motor sold for $275.00 If it hasn't been serviced in some years the tune up parts and gearcase seals will be a cost that should be considered when setting a selling price. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Well, the old girl isn't gonna win any races, but she will still be idling away twenty years from now...Great fishing engine

Nice job hope you sell it.
Outboard Fun Thanks Scott! Me too. It should sell. I sold a couple others last week. Need to make a little room for new projects. Thanks for watching!
hello, is the water outlet where the exhaust comes from too? Cheers

Well, not a powerhouse but runs great. It looks better now
Ron Baker Thanks Ron! Ya, it's not a fast one but it always starts, and runs great. It did clean up OK. It was fugly before the clean and polish.
What should the compression be on these 5.5 have one with 60 on both cylinders

Old JohnnyRude I looked and didn’t see any numbers stamped on it. It’s a 2 blade but looks like it has hella pitch to it
