Thanks for the video. Definitely needed. These are the bikes we needed 6 years ago instead of the larger adv sluggers.
Agree completely.
This kind of bikes was needed always more than those penis-extenders 1liter+!
Being a Luddite and having a phobia of electronics, and liking simple stuff, the Tenere is a GAMECHANGER!!
Thanks Hayward I thought I was alone here.
Get a royal enfield himalayan 😉
You can switch off Al electronics on KTM
@@SparkySlow but then its still a KTM....
The Tenere's pipe sounds awesome.
It does! Hence I spent more time riding it :)
It's the fz07 motor. You should listen to it with a proper pipe
When you fit a full system it sounds like the best bike on the planet. That ktm is like agricultural noise 🤣
The KTM throttle response in Rally mode IS awesome.
Price, simple reliable basics (design) , and a few key upgrades took care of the problem spots and made me pleased with my T7 purchase. Even with upgrades I was still under the mark than almost all these other adventure bikes that had features on them already stock.
Thank you for taking the time to do this.
I appreciate your feedback.
I am just really happy to see a great review of these two bikes by someone who is 5' 8 tall. Thanks a ton man!
You're welcome! Glad you have found the comparison useful.
@@Outbackmotortek Thanks for the informative comparison of the bikes. Just curious, how did you end up in Hungary and how is it for light off-roading? Cheers!
@@Outbackmotortek I'm also 5'8 :) ,i find it to be a bit top heavy when handling at low speeds but i think i'll get used to her .I like your crash bars and had i seen this earlier ,i would have ordered these instead of the ones in the Yamaha catalogue .Good job
He said hes 1.7m high, but in feet that would be 5'6 not 5'8.
I know because im 1.7m myself.
@@thinhtran3126 yeah :) ok i know
The Video I was looking for even before any of those were launched ... thank YOU !
Lenny Fence you’re very welcome!
T7 exhaust note is awesome and the engine sounds less noisy. Love the Yamaha
I have ridden the KTM dealer test ride excellent bike lots of money..my mate has just picked up the tenere and I have spent a fair bit of time on it and it is also excellent and 3.5k less than the Kato here in blighty..yam is simpler has less to go wrong and and isn't missing anything I need..for me the Yamaha is the one
A lot of people feel like you. The extra money you'll save by purchasing the Tenere 700 can be spent on quality riding apparel and even a few weeks of luxurious touring :)
Lo v e the look of the Tenere, I'd love it even more if it had a clone of the KTMs rear rack. KTM done well to have such a good rear rack stock.
Laurie thanks for another great review, you focus on topics that are very relatable to real world adventure bike riders, keep them coming. Btw congratulations on being the first to put these 2 bikes head to head.
Thanks, Todd! I really appreciate your kind words.
Cheers,
Lorry
Thank you for your review! I really like hearing your comparison and perspectives on both machines. Having owned more than 220 motorcycles of all genre's , I am a perfect buyer for this category. And I will use your products to protect my machine. Thank you Lorri
Thank you, Jon! I appreciate your comment and compliments. We'll have Tenere 700 products ready in the coming weeks.
Great overview and impressions of both bikes!
Good review. Exactly what I was looking for. Thx !!!
Koen Lauwaet awesome! I’m really happy you found it useful
Nice ! I like how you talk from a realistic prespective.
Most importantly, Yamaha is trouble-free and more reliable than the KTM
Excellent review. No bias, just good logical reviews. Subscribed! Hope to see more reviews on bikes.
That Tenere 😍 gorgeous and the sound!!!
Thanks Lozza... Great information from "one of us" ADV riders. Customers are lining up for protection for both bikes down here. Can't wait to get our next shipment from OBM. Steve
This is great effort! Thanks for doing this video! I like the Tenere 700 in many ways, especially the affordable price, practicality and solid chassis (had a Tenere 1200, my favourite, real highway rocket!) only thing I don't like is the lack of TFT display. My bikes now are TFT. (Panigale, V85TT)
I have a 790R... having buyers remorse..loud engine, hot, jerky,! Love the electronics and light.
U must de-cat it and all will be much much better.
Trade it in. The Tenere 700 is quiet, light and smooth but no electronics to assist your ride.
@@zardportugal Not what I read on forums.
I'm a big fan of both bikes. I'm leaning more to the Tenere. but haven't test ridden them yet.
i'm really glad you did not miss your height at the beginning, thank you for this video ,been waiting for t700 for 2 years , and bought another bike , your review/compare from not a pro point is actually really good , bit long , but right to the point of a weekend rider , bit of trail ,pavement to get there .In your vid you actually looked more comfy on slow turns in the T7 than a KTM.thank you for your time doing it , 1st video of a t7 from a "normal " point of view in north america that i have seen.
Thank you, Slawek. Sometimes it's hard to nail what's a too short or too long video. On average a bike review on CZcams is about 30 minutes.
Anyhow, thank you for your compliments! It's much appreciated.
Yam all the way. Sounds so awesome.
The bike I really wanted before my 1200 tenere ...
Thanks to you and your Dad for the video!
We appreciate your compliments.
Excellent review. Thank you.
Thank you for this review.
Looking forward to the accessory market kicking in with some contoured fuel cells for the Tenere.
Great review... thanks for making the effort 👍
I really like the comparison! On a side note: Your sound setup needs some work. The mic is clipping at times and produces high pitched peaks (like feedback) at other times. All in all a great video though!
The Tenere is a great looking bike, it's lack of rider aids i actually find quite refreshing. Takes me back when you would just jump on a bike and go, instead of jumping on a bike-programme a computer- and go. Great vid, cheers.
I stumbled upon this video after doing a test ride (and video) of the Yamaha Tenere 700.
Good review man, keep up the good work!
Great! Thanks. Happy to hear you liked the review.
@@Outbackmotortek loved it, because it also reminded of when me and my dad did were riding together, best thing in the world!
Great review! I have the 790R and all advriders interested in this mid segment are waiting for the comparison to the T7. Thanks for taking the time doing this. You had interesting thoughts/experiences and it was really interesting to se the suspensions work at the testrides in the end. I just love my orange beast, which i compare to my former 690. Happy advriding!
I´ll race you to Bike Trollhättan for the demo Tenere 700, Mattias! Hope it´ll come in Oktober. :)
Thank you, Mattias. I'm really glad you liked my comparison review.
@@thekellgrenadventure7772 Sounds great!
The Kellgren Adventure ...and congrats to a cool bike!
Yamaha tenere price and quality is best!
hmmm not sure about quality , yammie is not known for that
Tenere700 - exactly what I was waiting for to put into garage right next to mt10. Great job boys!
Happy to help!
Hubert I'm looking to put a well accessorised and tuned suspensioned T7 in between my beloved XT1200Z and my WR450F. It will fill the gap perfectly. A decent reliable all-capable all-road bike.
@@C4PROOF sounds like a plan! No matter the size of a biker's garage, there will always be room for another bike :D
Nice review ! Great to see these two competent bikes side by side. Regarding suspension, are they both adjusted to your Sag?
That was amazing thanks for this
Good Review. I've bought the T7 - It's $5,000 less in NZ, No breakdown anxiety & personally the 790 is the ugliest ADV bike ever.
No, the T7 is or it would be in my garage now, lol...
The KTM is the most attractive.
I know the feeling. I looked at KTM bikes but they are all so darn ugly and the engine sound is so annoying, I can't stand to even stand next to one in traffic. Plus the less electronics you have the better, especially if you are going on long trips.
facts haha that KTM is butt ugly. ngl
wow, im glad you did both these bikes, you are my height and i can get a better understanding now
Happy to finally see a "short" rider review. I'm just under 5'7 with 29" inseam and currently about to pull the trigger on a T7 but I'm a bit anxious about the bike being too tall. I rode tall MX bikes but never a big 500 pounds bike. I am not planning on lowering the suspension, I really want that ground clearance. Let's hope I'm gonna be fine haha.
Great review! Thanks
In Australia the Tenere falls into the lower insurance bracket that is mandatory over here. 710cc is the crossover so again cheaper to run !
You guys are lucky then!
In America the KTM is a piece of crap
Go blue !
But the price is not amazing for what it is..... 17500 AUD..... They could improve on that...
@@rugby3874 No Im America the Harley Davidson is a piece of Crap. If you ride in the bush there's a ton of KTM bikes flying around.
Good job showing both models abilities or capabilities to the unknown riders, but the majority of riders need to see the motorcycles capabilities on pavement riding. I may never have the opportunity to dirt riding but your showing of both motorcycles was a great experience. Next time showcase dirt and trails, and pavement. I need that. Most bikes are EXCELLENT. THANK YOU...
Tenere’s exhaust note sounds better plus the bike is less expensive. It doesn’t have the electronics of the KTM but that means there’s less things to break. Also, Yamaha Is the manufacturer with the highest reliability rating. The KTM rocks though with all the tech and the badassery.
Well summed up!
Great review! Now that both bikes have been released it's reviews like this from an amateurs point of view that are important.
I must say though, there is a pretty obvious advantage in the suspension category for the KTM. Watching the T7's little hops after landing a small jump makes me think it could be difficult to stop after take off.
Nice, mellow review. Such a pleasure to listen to compared to so many other "load and annoying" reviewers. Nice job! Cost difference would be the deciding factor. Tenere being the less expensive of course.
Very good video, eficient presentation i really liked the way you showed both the bikes keep that way and you will make a lot of success. It's a shame that yamaha wont produce those here in brasil for now. Good luck on your videos from minas gerais ,Brazil.
Thank you. I really appreciate your comment and compliments.
Awesome bikes, both of them. Love the looks of both, but that t7 in red is sweet. Better suspension, electronics, a rack, more power and longer fuel range are the ktm's advantage. And damn you yamaha for putting a yz seat on your adventure bike.
It would suck getting the T7 and having to buy another fuel tank right out of the chute to get proper distance. Ymi could have nailed it here but without a stock rack, tank, and adventure seat, I might as well get the ktm that has it all stock.
finally we have actual mid size adventure bikes built for real on/off road long distance exploring.
man now you got me guessing my self as the stock rack is temping
Awesome, finally 2 companies making a real off road capable adventure bikes. Lets see who is next to join the game.
Good review thanks. Good camera work Dad.
Cheers! I'll pass along the message, too!
The last proper Tenere was made in 1990. Back then, the Tenere you bought was the same bike - minus a few mods - that won the Dakar.
I think the number of people watching this video is an indication of the high level of excitement for mid-size bikes of this type, especially the Tenere 700, which is not even available here in the U.S. yet, but is highly anticipated. A lot of people here are very interested in something that can go toe to toe with a KTM but will sell for thousands less and carry that Japanese quality and reliability.
I agree with you. The Tenere 700 is going to be a big hit in the States and Canada. Especially since the XT 660 Tenere never made it over.
Great comparison thanks. Good to see 2 major brands focusing on getting the weight down a bit, and adding more off-road capability, without taking away too much highway capability. These will sell well in Australia, (once the T 700 finally makes it here in Dec).
You need to line up all the contenders
Triumph tiger
BMW GS850
Africa twin
Along with the KTM
For a real showdown.
I’m 5’7” and at first it was different, all adv bikes are tall for me, you’re on point Lorry, excellent video!
Without mentioning that yamaha tenere has a Dakar run history and a lot awards! I've been sticking with yamaha since 2005 and never had a problem. Reliable and cheap to fix it. Nice footage guys, cheers!
KTM owns the Dakar recently though 🙌 just great having these bikes out in the wild now. Can't beat reliability of Yamaha and Honda though 👍
Excellent review many thanks for putting this together :)
Thanks, Pete. I really appreciate your compliment
Great review... thanks. I love the T7 but the only problem with it is actually getting one. Been on a dealer list for a while and hope it comes in soon.
Great review! You answered many of my questions about the t7. Thank you!
You're welcome! Thank you for your feedback
I have a new 790R and I can tell you from over 30 years riding/racing experience it is one hell of a bike. If your a SERIOUS rider its very very good. Also it can be ridden like a sports bike through the twisties, excellent road manners.
What do you mean serious? Yes, it's a great bike, I agree. So is the Tenere 700.
very nice video mate, so different of all
Thanks! Good to know that our video offers a different perspective.
You guys did a great job with that review. Although it is a bit long, don't explain what you are going to compare just strait away do it. Thank you
Cheers. It's hard to keep the video short when you have two epic bikes at your disposal to ride and work on :)
at last ktm 790 and tenere 700 comparison good job
You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.
Just adjusting the T7 suspensions, the heigh and distance of the bakes and the handelbar position, it's a total diferent bike from how I picked from my motorcycle dealership. I'm really impressed how easy and fun it is, and how fast and safe you feel ridding really fast ON as OFFROAD. And please hurry up on your crashbars and pannier suports!!! I NEED THEM!!!
Thanks for summing it up. I believe the T7 can be more customized depending on what one's seeking in an adventure bike. Crash bars and pannier racks intro video is coming in a few days and we're working on getting them ready for production! Thanks for your patience and looking to going for a ride soon in Spain!
In some unlucky European countries (Denmark) the price difference between the two is over 8000 Euros. That is a huge amount of money for many and could buy much luggage and protection and still have change for a summer trip or two. Especially if the T7 provides a decent package out of the box.
Thanks for the video
both great bikes...if im buying one ill get the tenere for reliability and easy to fix
I agree here. Japanese reliability over European performance any day.
tenere is far the better option
Great review. For most not that hardcore riders I think the T7 will be the better choice of these two. Im happy with my CB500X 2019 with upgraded suspension and wheels.
I would have thought the T7 would have been for the more hardcore rider too... but in this video it was explained the opposite! KTM for more hardcore action. Hummmmmmm
@@PP-wz7mp Yes I sure did. Then Jr. High... and then High School and even continued to get a college degree.
Great vid!! I love your presenting style, and the descriptions that you give, a great review!!!!
Please please please do a vid on the bmw310gs. Would like to hear your thoughts!! Cheers!
Cheers. I really appreciate your compliments. Unfortunately we don't have a 310GS to test ride and review.
I love the tinted crash bar
You've done a great review style. Very different and helpful. Thanks.
I'm 178cm (5'10) and a bit worried about 790 AR height.
Also looking at 850GS (regular, non adventure). Would love to hear your thoughts on 850GS compared to 790R.
Hi dear
That was a nice ground to earth positive presentation for all to understand with a natural flow..keep it up..good show
Hit like, if you also found KTM was more composed and in control while doing jumps. It was landing very smoothly. Based on this video, KTM is a better machine for the purpose.
Great video, I love them both. Quick question, how come both bikes have European plates?
Ashley midad he’s pretty good with the camera nice review 👍🏻
Cheers! Appreciate it.
Great job! The Tenere is my "winner" of these two.. :)
Cheers. Can't go wrong with it. Beautiful bike featuring a smooth engine
From what I’ve gleaned, a spacer in front forks ,and a heavier spring in the back will Greatly improve the T7’s suspension problems. So you have a great, reliable bike, and $5k in your pocket
Very nice review from an ‘average’ rider point of view.
Very good video, amigo!!!
Cheers, bud!
Excellent review
OM...thanks for the time and effort at a very good review. Let me say up front I am a KTM fan. I currently own a 2005 950 Adv-S. I'm 192cm tall and I am patiently waiting on the Tenere to come to the USA. My test ride of the 790 was very disappointing for my body build. I felt I was 'folded up', as if I was on a sport bike. Ergonomically, the bike is probably a perfect fit for my 173cm tall wife. It just feels compact and cramped and I don't think bar risers, taller seat or lower pegs would fix it for me, as those additions would with other bikes. The engine is classic KTM... course and feels like a race car, rather than smooth. Since eclipsing 50 years in age, I am searching for a manufacturer to deliver a light adventure bike that is too my liking and the 790 is not it. Hoping the Tenere 700 will make me happy. .....But come on, Yamaha.... late 2020 for a '21 model. Can't you move faster!!!??? Forget about making the bike happy for California emissions and send it to the other 49 states!
Great video .. The reason people always ask about what your inseam measurement is , is because it gives the most accurate idea of how much leg you have to hold up that 34.5 inch seat height on the T700 .. For Instance I am 5/10 but I only have a 29" inseam .. I would probably get the 1.5 " lowering kit putting the yamaha at something like 33" and maybe set the back spring on a softer setting with my 210 pound mass getting the bike a little closer to the ground .. There is a lot to like about that bike .. Thanks again .. Yours Guy
Thank you for the share ;)
You're welcome. Glad you've liked it.
nice vid! 👌 love the T7. what kind of alpinestars boots are this? any probs to change gears with it?
Simon Schibler get Tech 7 Enduro model, replacement soles... simply the best
Love the Tenere
你做的非常棒,英文虽然不好,但是也能了解到你想表达的意思,非常感谢!
Well, as per the websites, the price difference in Canada will be $2500 between the 790R and the 700 tenere. That being the case, the KTM is a way better bang for the buck. 20 + extra HP (game changer for me), electronics, better suspension, bigger tank, turns better and better off road capabilities overall. As for the noisy engine, all KTM''s are noisy, but, the performance that comes out of it outweighs the noise.. If ridden like it's suppose to be ridden, you wont here the noise because you're gonna be ripping through trails. They are not meant to be puttering down a street at 30 km/h. They are high performance off road machines that are road worthy. For me, I want performance.. If I wanted a nice sounding engine, I'd go with the tenere though.
Hi there. The Pannier Rack looks awesome
Cheers! Production is starting real soon.
Love the LHOAR T-SHIRT!
Eric Sweet one of my favourite!
I think Lawrence might have something cool up his sleeve for 2020!
good video really like the red on the Tenere good job
Cheers
Did u try to harden the front suspension? Saw people doing 15+ m jumps still having reserve? Just wondering if the adjustment in the front makes a difference. Cheers
The more i look at that tenere the more i like it..I'm around the same height as you and it didn't seem too unmanageable as far as height goes..
Will get this one if it ever reach Yamaha Manila (I hope). Mean time, continue savings and stay with Serow 2019 for now.
Great test for me, than more that I'm the same size guy as you so I could see how will i touch the ground on that bikes. Cheers
What are the tires on the KTM? Great comparison and loved how you put it together.
What ride mode did you choose for the KTM?
Very good video Lorry!!!
Àlex Viladiu thank you!
Bro, whats your inseam measurement?
Nice video! How tall are you? Just to have an idea about the height of te motorcycles
