Awesome bikes, both of them. Love the looks of both, but that t7 in red is sweet. Better suspension, electronics, a rack, more power and longer fuel range are the ktm's advantage. And damn you yamaha for putting a yz seat on your adventure bike.
It would suck getting the T7 and having to buy another fuel tank right out of the chute to get proper distance. Ymi could have nailed it here but without a stock rack, tank, and adventure seat, I might as well get the ktm that has it all stock.

Great review. For most not that hardcore riders I think the T7 will be the better choice of these two. Im happy with my CB500X 2019 with upgraded suspension and wheels.

I would have thought the T7 would have been for the more hardcore rider too... but in this video it was explained the opposite! KTM for more hardcore action. Hummmmmmm

    I'm 178cm (5'10) and a bit worried about 790 AR height.
Also looking at 850GS (regular, non adventure). Would love to hear your thoughts on 850GS compared to 790R.

Hit like, if you also found KTM was more composed and in control while doing jumps. It was landing very smoothly. Based on this video, KTM is a better machine for the purpose.

From what I’ve gleaned, a spacer in front forks ,and a heavier spring in the back will Greatly improve the T7’s suspension problems. So you have a great, reliable bike, and $5k in your pocket

OM...thanks for the time and effort at a very good review. Let me say up front I am a KTM fan. I currently own a 2005 950 Adv-S. I'm 192cm tall and I am patiently waiting on the Tenere to come to the USA. My test ride of the 790 was very disappointing for my body build. I felt I was 'folded up', as if I was on a sport bike. Ergonomically, the bike is probably a perfect fit for my 173cm tall wife. It just feels compact and cramped and I don't think bar risers, taller seat or lower pegs would fix it for me, as those additions would with other bikes. The engine is classic KTM... course and feels like a race car, rather than smooth. Since eclipsing 50 years in age, I am searching for a manufacturer to deliver a light adventure bike that is too my liking and the 790 is not it. Hoping the Tenere 700 will make me happy. .....But come on, Yamaha.... late 2020 for a '21 model. Can't you move faster!!!??? Forget about making the bike happy for California emissions and send it to the other 49 states!

Great video .. The reason people always ask about what your inseam measurement is , is because it gives the most accurate idea of how much leg you have to hold up that 34.5 inch seat height on the T700 .. For Instance I am 5/10 but I only have a 29" inseam .. I would probably get the 1.5 " lowering kit putting the yamaha at something like 33" and maybe set the back spring on a softer setting with my 210 pound mass getting the bike a little closer to the ground .. There is a lot to like about that bike .. Thanks again .. Yours Guy

Well, as per the websites, the price difference in Canada will be $2500 between the 790R and the 700 tenere. That being the case, the KTM is a way better bang for the buck. 20 + extra HP (game changer for me), electronics, better suspension, bigger tank, turns better and better off road capabilities overall. As for the noisy engine, all KTM''s are noisy, but, the performance that comes out of it outweighs the noise.. If ridden like it's suppose to be ridden, you wont here the noise because you're gonna be ripping through trails. They are not meant to be puttering down a street at 30 km/h. They are high performance off road machines that are road worthy. For me, I want performance.. If I wanted a nice sounding engine, I'd go with the tenere though.
