    Thank you so much for this concise lesson. I've watched countless funk strumming lessons by many popular CZcams teachers and none of them have explained it as detailed and as well as you. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

      @@Dolphinstreets I'm only a beginner, been playing guitar 18 months. My main genre of interest would be Blues, and I didn't especially like funk music but thought the techniques were good to learn. That's indeed been the case and it's given me a whole new appreciation of rhythm and left hand muting, indeed even I've learned to appreciate and funk guitar.
      FWIW at age almost 60 I'm a (very) adult beginner and will say to anyone reading and considering beginning to learn a musical instrument you're never too old to begin. I've always enjoyed listening to music, but since beginning to learn, music has taken on a whole different perspective that I've fallen in love with. It's an amazing rabbit-hole.
      We now live in an age where online tuition is very affordable, people like Robert dedicate significant amounts of time to helping others, and of course traditional lessons are still available. For busy professionals like myself, it's an outlet I can disappear into, relax and enjoy, without the pressure of having to ever be "good" at it. Just enjoy music for what it is and being able to be art of making some. I'm very grateful for people like Robert on CZcams for contributing in such a positive way.

    Such a good lesson. I think I solved some of my strumming challenges - changed the angle of the pick and took even softer pick. Sometimes my nails still catch the string. It is difficult to keep the same distance all the time. But I guess it is just practice. Or is there some tips?

  • @MarkRhodesSongs
    @MarkRhodesSongs Před rokem +2

    Great lesson! Your trips on picking (grip, thickness, angle) were very helpful to me. One question, though: a teacher I know stresses doing both the strum like you do but ALSO (for stabs) keeping the hand moving (during rests) but NOT striking the strings at all. I find that hard to do. It requires a change of hand position to keep the strum going but not contacting the strings at all. Is that a common technique?

    • @Dolphinstreets
      @Dolphinstreets  Před rokem +1

      Yes, absolutely but by muting the strings with the fretting hand you can still hit the strings. You get a percussive sound but that’s often not an issue. The technique is very common.

    • @Dolphinstreets
      @Dolphinstreets  Před rokem +1

      No contact at all is difficult - well for me at least.

    does anyone know where i can learn chords...im not interested in strumming...im looking for a channel that can teach me chords ...i know my basic chords...im looking more for specific chords like for example hes playing some "funk chords"
    my hands arent very big and my fingers arent the most flexible so i like to play alot of chords with two - three fingers... like 0xx032 or g7's or w.e this C chord this is x32030 ...so im looking for a channel that can teach me chords that are standard and that arent standard

      A late reply but if you're still searching I recommend morrisman64 since he has a helluva lot of funk and soul songs where he just plays the tune and writes the chord name on the screen.
