  • We are well and truly into the end game now. I still want to steal all the other sides unique items but for now the goal is to figure out how we beat the Remenant. Their battleships can blink in and erase a ship before blinking out again. It makes them incredibly difficult to deal with.

    Seeing the outro fighting the Drone AI Battlecruiser, I gotta say; if you have the character skill to recover drone ships, those are monsters, and essentially free. Stack'em with some long range (700-1000) beams all over the place (personally, I've been on a couple cycles of 5x Tachyon + Ion Beam setups, all on the hardpoints and turrets that can manage to supplement the forward HPs (and PD beams for 360° close-up harrassment), anything smaller than a capitol ship gets smashed within 4 rounds of sustained fire, faster with Eradi helpong out, ofc).
    Just remember; the more AI Drones in the fleet, the lower their max CR will be. (Recover all possible, but only keep one or two active in the fleet). This setup won't be enough to farm AI Cores off the fleets near the colonies, but sure is a massive addition to the Eradicators' clobbering-time 😁

    When you raid a planet, reserves (unassigned Marines) reduce the casualties you take, so it's generally better when going after Extreme Danger objectives (special items/blueprints/etc., anything with a set minimum portion of your Marines) to leave any excess Marines unassigned.

    • @Imagine_Baggins
      @Imagine_Baggins Před měsícem

      Casualties are reduced in proportion to the amount of troops you hold back _because those troops are not participating in the raid._
      It's a good strategy if you only need to meet minimum thresholds (like BPs and high-value items). But if you're trying to maximize any scalable loot, it makes sense to just full-send, as the troop-to-commodity ratio remains constant.

    If bribing a pirate to disclose their base location is too costly, there are a few alternative options. Pirates tend to harass more than one system at a time. In such cases, there might be a bounty to find their base location that may show your colony in the list of affected colonies. For remote colonies, I have found that installing Comm relays in neighboring uninhabited systems with 5-10 light-years is a good measure. Once pirate activity is detected, check neighboring systems for a missing Comm relay. Chances are that is the location of the new pirate base.

      @@SaneTrinity my best guess is that while burt laser is better dps in theory the lances perform better because the burst laser takes longer to shoot off so intern it requires a little longer being out phase which can be detrimental if you get a reaper to the back. Another reason might be the fact that the lances are an insta hit. I my self don't have all that much experience I only 3 hours ago finished my second run of the current game by killing the coronal hypershunt guardians. And with a burst laser it took me significantly longer to kill them then with lances. The only other experience I have in this game is about 3 years ago with maybe 5 hours of playtime and now 166 hours of playtime in the last 3 weeks, not all of those hours are active. • @KainYusanagi
    @KainYusanagi Před rokem +4

    Ah man; Francis, if you're going to pound a colony that hard, do a few more raids to yoink all their blueprints! Just, don't hit them TOO hard, or their stability will never recover enough, quickly enough, to prevent destabilization. Additionally, with pather cells and pirate bastions out in far-flung space, you can raid them indefinitely without risking them destabilizing and decivilizing (which makes re-colonizing the planet for yourself harder, as it's an unremovable hazard penalty). It gets you a lot of fairly cheap stuff that way. Lastly, higher tier marines are a HUGE upgrade, and I heavily recommend anyone using Marines to not care about their lives until they upgrade at least once.

      As for Remnants... Go the Metal Slug route: Heavy Machine Gun! Grab a bunch of Onslaughts, HMG them up, see if they can shred the shields. Once a HT ship's shields are down, they get shredded pretty easily, and the built-in cannons of the Onslaught are a great anti-armor companion to HMGs. Tachyon lances are also really good, and I still like to run a Sunder with a pair of Phase Lances to just lance right through basically anything that doesn't have shields up; very flux-consuming though. Heavy Blasters are a fairly good energy weapon in general too, aside from the very high flux cost per shot, but it's fairly flux efficient; not really good to use on a Sunder, though. Ion Beams are a great support weapon for keeping shields up and shorting out systems, and pair well with the Tachyon Lance for support play, and to put constant pressure on anything that does, at a very long range.

      This is heavy weight champion to the toddler that Cosmoteer is. If you introduce Cosmoteer mechanic into SS, over 90% would not make any sense anymore. Starsector is conceptually superior for what it is, also incompatible because of the same aspect.
      It's like the difference between reading a description of a spaceship adventure and actually going on a spaceship adventure. In one word it's Beyond.
      I mean you build ships for what? The answer is Starsector.
      The difference is like having a live girlfriend instead of a dead one. I am guessing. 🤭
      You can just come up with the craziest sci-fi shit, paint it, animate it, and make it work in starsector. There is a lot of proof, like a ship that is a hammer geometrically, for literal hammering.
      Essentially people are building their own ships and other great stuff, I am talking about 'modding'. After years of consistent joy playing with it, I too am considering, If I do it for something it's Starsector by lightyears.
      Some high quality mod content is right there around the original: unique, non disruptive, balanced or it has it's place, mixing up with original is as easy as peeing the bed. Meanwhile any number of them are game changers, not some cheap paint job, I mean beautiful creative well done stuff, for free from brothers.
      The quality movement it sparked is the best indicator of what it is.
      I haven't had less then 50+ mods active on it besides for checking out vanilla updates.
      It's massive, rewarding,

    As for the Ziggurat, the ship is all about its unique Mote Attractor built-in system. You should be able to do well with it even without any skills at all(although the Systems Expertise skill makes it a lot better) On a related note I wonder if phase ships in general would be good agains the Remnants since they can just phase out when threatened.

    47:10 High Scatter Amplifier won't do its job, as autopulse is pulse weapon, not beam - if it was Tachyon Lance, it would work quite nicely
    EDIT: Rule of thumb for Remnants - they are highly dependent on shields and thus flux, just like high-tech ships, so slaping more kinetic dakka in place of Maulers, Mjolnirs and Vulcans will make you a bit better. Another way is Tachyon Paragon - sure, it is slow as hell, but... oh, I just remembered that you just engage autopilot...
    Anyway, Tachyon Lance on target is quite damaging, as they bypass shields if target has high flux - the higher, the better, though get them on alternating setting, as sure, quad lances on target are fun, being yourself high on flux due to that stunt is not.
    Why I mention piloting it yourself - because by being at helm, you can pull a number of tricks like: oh, shut, those frigates do not want to close in to get pasted - just hold fire for few seconds to get them well into range and enjoy fireworks.
    Though if you pilot it yourself, get more survivability hullmods, as you'll be target number 1, and that Fortress shield will be your friend
