Boarding a ship in the Philippines is so underrated. Always remember half the journey is getting there. Flying used to be luxury before in the 90s until the arrival of the Cebu Pacific which cheapen plane tickets. Nowadays people. Fly from point A to point B like it’s just thirty minutes away. You don’t know the feeling of arriving to Cebu/Zamboanga all the way from Manila in a day or two while crossing the seas enjoying high winds while you see Dolphins join with your journey during the day and the bioluminescent creatures at night. Not to mention the friendly strangers you meet on board you can chat with. Boarding a ship is like waiting for the perfect moment to come like Nirvana. It’s so worth it.
Between Sulpicio Lines and WGA Superferry, I would like to say Sulpicio has far better service compared to Super Ferry. It is faster, and offers much better food service. If not for its unfortunate series of catastrophes Sulpicio is better than Super Ferry. I find Super Ferry boats dirtier while Sulpicio has cleaner vessels. But I have to give props to Super Ferry being the safer ship.
This I agree. especially if you are on stateroom/suite. Sulpicio dining for Stateroom and suite was separate class while WG&A mixed stateroom with tourist.
I remember if you werent at the dining area yet they would (sulipicio) call you room. This was memorable for me because we were about Princess of Universe, but since we were at the east coast of Mindanao (wavy) we were not in the mood to eat and they called our room because the resto was closing for the meal time
Napaka gandang kaalaman ang hatid nito para sa lahat. Marami akong natutunan about sa mga ferries ng Pilipinas and their origin. Maraming salamat po.
I rode Akita's maiden voyage back in 1993. My mom and I flew from Davao to Cebu, to catch the maiden Cebu-Manila Akita voyage. I distincly remember the hanging balconies, the piano in the lobby.
It was also memorable because there was a typhoon the night before (or the day before IDK) and I was scared. I was 13 and it was my first time to experience a typhoon. Years later (1996/1997) I got to ride the ship again when she was fielded to the Davao route under Superferry 6, if I remember correctly, it was a non-stop voyage from Davao to Manila via the east coast

Actually, the MV SuperFerry 10 was the ship featured in Sharon Cuneta's SuperFerry commercial during the WG&A era.

Ang galing! Tbh ngayon ko lang nalaman na may ibang ships na may sister ships pala. Hehe. Pero si MV Filipina Princess hindi nasama. For all i know, yung sister ship niya is nasa Greece under Anek Lines. Sana sinama niyo nalang din.
Hindi po sister ships sina Lissos (ex Ferry Hamanasu) and Filipina Princess (ex Ferry Akashia). Mas mahaba at mas malaki po ng onti si Ferry Akashia (at 180.5m / 11295 tons) compared kay Ferry Hamanasu (160.5m / 9800 tons).
now Negros Navigation and Superferry is now owned by 2go corporation, nakakamiss makita yung NN at Superferry dati dito sa pier sa amin kasi ngayun pa minsan minsan nalang nakikita ang 2go ships. Cokaliong at TransAsia lang madalas kong nakikita at nasasakyan.
naiiyak ako pag nakikita ko ang princess of negros sarap maalala ang nakaraan sa NN way back 1998 kaya kinabisado ko yung mga patawid dagat pati conchita na subrang bagal at nikkie roxas culasi wayback 1999.hay i love princess of negros iloilo

You guys took me by surprise on MV San Paolo. She was my very first ship when I was a 4th grader in elementary school back then.
Also, she was my very first transport to and fro Manila to Puerto Princesa for the holidays.
I remembered when i was 10 yrs. old last 2006, when we aboard the MV San Paolo of NN from Iloilo to Manila. And also the Superferry 2 currently known as MV Saint Thomas Aquinas which sank in Cebu last 2013.
My first trip to Manila was aboard M/S St Peter the Apostle and M/S St Joseph the Worker. It was a fun memory onboard. I'm planning to take a ship from Manila to Bacolod hopefully next year. Oh I miss sea travel a lot. And also to mention, I grew up near Banago Port in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental and seeing those ships come and go is always a welcoming sight.
Where are all these vessel now? Are they still in service or already in Chittagong Bangladesh?
Accdg to SLI safety officer, Sulpicio bought P.O.T Universe and SF12 together and then they sold SF12 to WG&A.

And they somehow both became flagships of SLI and WG&A (until Princess of the Stars was bought by SLI in 2004 while SF12 remained the Superferry's flagship till 2GO merger)
I remmember riding on the Superferry 17 from Gensan to Davao back in 2006 was my first and so far only time riding a ferry liner! Hoping to experience it again in the future this time an overnight trip!

Trans Asia's jewels, M/V Asia China and M/V Trans Asia 1 were sister ships too. Also M/V Asia Indonesia (currently "Grand Venture" of Navios Lines) and M/V Asia Brunei (currently "Grand Unity" of Navios Lines) were also sister ships ;)

As of now, St. Francis Xavier and At. Michael Archangel together with 2GO Maligaya and 2GO Masagana are most probably the sister ships that are currently active

Originally, most Japanese passenger ships only has a single rescue boat and life rafts. But ships like M/V St. Francis Xavier and M/V St. Therese of Child Jesus only had a proper lifeboats on board.
