One of Joe C's best, covering a Ray Charles classic! Next, I hope you do "The Letter". He also did a marvelous duet with Jennifer Warnes called "Up Where We Belong", which was from "An Officer And a Gentleman", a terrific movie that I'm sure you'll watch someday. It stars Richard Gere and Debra Winger. Louis Gossett Jr. won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for it.
“The Letter” will knock your socks off. The best version, IMO, is the one in 1970 at the Fillmore. It’s got everything! My fave Joe performance of all time! 💜
Here is that performance with Leon Russell on the keys!
czcams.com/video/xhlvQen4mWw/video.html
Great duo of Joe and Jennifer, there's a great performance of them singing it together from a British TV show, and that's a great movie! Very uplifting!
@@galvinklatt5273 Be still my heart. Such a fan of Leon Russell. I remember when I saw him for the first time on The Midnight Special. I have loved him ever since.
Ray Charles was the first to record it, but Bobby Sharp wrote it. It's become a blues standard.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE JOE COCKER! You need to do his song "When the Night Comes," and "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window." They are absolute🔥
You beat me to When the Night Comes, it's such a good song.
Yes yes yes!!! "She came in through the bathroom window"🔥🔥🔥 mad dogs and Englishmen 😱
You can’t get too much of Joe Cocker he has so many great songs When you think you love one you hear one that you love even more. 🧡
soooo true
Joe Cocker, the most prolific cover man! 147 covers and 37 originals. The man is phenomenal! He takes an old song and gives it New birth. Most of the songs that he covers, I prefer his versions. This is one of those beautifully rich covers!
Im 100% with you, he is the only one I not only search for covers I didn't hear yet, but I want them too, cause they are sooo good
The man is a LEGEND…incredible voice…
Unchain my soul! Joe just had "IT" and would deliver like no one else.
Masterpiece!!! Cannot beat Joe's raw voice in this song. One of my favourites
of Joe Cocker. What an amazing artist.
He does this rendition proud.Ray is smiling down. I am dancing in my bed.🎶🎶🎶 Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
In 1972 my dad was a part time Limousine driver here in Sydney and on odd ocassions would ferry some well known celebrities around town, to night clubs , people's houses etc. One of those was Joe Cocker , while he was here in Sydney and Melbourne performing concerts during that year. Apart from tipping my Dad $100 one night after taking him to a night club which was a lot of money back them for a Limo Driver , my dad always said he was one of the nicest blokes he'd ever met. A true gentlemen, down to earth and a good soul. Sadly missed by all who knew him.
Another great performer whose name you don’t have to hear you know who he is when you hear his voice! Iconic
Joe Cocker would cover a song and make it his own, in 1968 the Beatles heard Joe's version of "With A Little Help From My Friends" and loved it, they were actually in the studio when he recorded it and John Lennon played guitar on the song. When he performed at Woodstock his career shot up. In 1974 he recorded "You Are So Beautiful" and it became his signature song, in 1983 he performed "up Where We Belong" with Jennifer Warnes for a movie called An Officer And A Gentleman, it was his best selling song and hit #1and he won a Grammy Award. I couldn't believe he was #97 on the Rolling Stones top 100 greatest voices of all time WHAT! It's was so sad when he passed away December 22, 2014 from lung cancer.
He was the absolute master of taking someone else's hit and making it his own. My favorite deep dive of his music is the Saint James Infirmary Blues.
I saw Joe Cocker in concert 2 years before he passed away. He is timeless! Best concert I’ve ever been to!
I'm jealous
I saw him in the 70s in Detroit
I’ve seen him too! The man has best air piano ever!
"You can leave your hat on!" Should definitely be the next Joe Cocker video you watch.
they mentioned they reacted to that one
It's a Randy Newman song. Why not do Randy Newman "I Love L.A.",
Jay & Amber, you'll love Joe's "The Letter" and "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window" !!!!
edit - saxophonist Clarence Clemons(Bruce Springsteen's band).
Originally done by The Box Tops and The Beatles
czcams.com/video/9E0FlhJnhl0/video.html 1964 original by Ray Charles it’s been too long since you reacted to him.
You guys do know that I Get By With a Little Help from my Friends is a Beatles song.
Love me some Joe! Was fortunate to see him live years ago. RIP. Cheers....
Gosh, he was so fantastic in concert, especially in the seventies.
Joe Cocker is soooo good!! His Mad Dogs and Englishmen album is classic gold!! ❤❤❤
The kind of voice you reconize in two notes
There's a live version of "You Can Leave Your Hat On" that is truly amazing. Joe at his best
Love that song!
I love this song with Joe singing it. And seeing the big man, Clarence Clemons, just made my whole bloody day. ❤❤❤
The guy playing the saxophone solo is none other than the late Clarence Clemons (nicknamed 'The Big Man'), who played in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band for many years -- and who had a hit song of his own with Jackson Browne called "You're A Friend of Mine".
Joe Cocker is my favorite singer since the 70’s and I listen to him every day. Was in New York at the time of Woodstock and missed going cause I worked two jobs. Got homesick and moved back to Bay Area,Ca. Missed my family.
joe always surrounds himself with great musicians and great arrangements! Great work by all.
They played this song in the clubs all the time! Brings back such happy memories.
Coming from Joe’s home city we loved him. It’s great to see you younger generations loving his music❤️
Wow, just wow. Up Where We Belong, everybody wants. The Letter, classic. Thanks again for this smile.
Joe Cocker - N'oubliez jamais - that´s also a nice song from Joe Cocker
Y’all gotta listen to “now that the magic is gone” “sorry seems to be the hardest word” “don’t you love me anymore”
really did that song from Ray Charles so much justice!!!! OMG!!! Love me some joe Cocker!!!! Wow!!! Great song too!!! And that Sax....stole the show!!! Wow!!!
The one and only Joe Cocker was fantastic, but people don’t give enough credit to his backing crew on Mad Dogs and Englishmen. The crew was put together and led by Tulsan, Leon Russell. Leon had several members from Tulsa including one of the member’s sister as a backup singer. That unmistakable “Tulsa Sound” is definitely Leon’s stamp.
There's a little known Joe Cocker song, N'oubliez Jamais. That song is stunning. Go for a live version.
I love "The Letter" and how he manages to make a Beatles song super soulful on "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window "... you will love both!
When Joe started singing I thought Amber was going to start crying from the pure emotion Joe put into it.
RIP CLARENCE CLEMMONS and JOE COCKER!!! 2 ICONS!!! ❣️🙏❣️
I’ve been suggesting this song for a while now and if you liked this Joe Cocker song, sound and video, you should listen to the Eurythmics song and watch the video of “Would I Lie to You.” The video is also in a night club like this video and there are dancers, background singers, horns, great guitars and the clear strong voice of Annie Lennox. Can’t be beat!!!
Love this song. Fantastic energy and...that voice. As others have mentioned, his live version of "The Letter" absolutely rocks.
I saw Joe Cocker in concert in 1969. He didn't do this song but he blew my mind anyway.
Great song , superbly sung and supported by the great late Clarence Clemons on sax.
I KNEW IT!! That was Clarence Clemons on the Sax, who played for Bruce Springsteen & the E-street band !!
I recognised that face and style immediately, so I had to look it up
Me too! Just asked that question!
Can never beat a little JOE!!!! Hope y’all are well !!
So glad to hear Joe again- LOVE him!!!
Just gotta love Joe❤️❤️. Great reaction ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh you guys, I’m SOOOO GLAD you did the video for this too, it’s so cool it makes you want to be there! My favorite Joe song!
Backup Singers were the Bomb! and the Sax player OMG.
I was lucky enough to see him live at a casino here in Oregon before he passed, and completely spellbound and soul satisfying evening....RIP Mr. Cocker....
Joe Cocker does a great version of 'The Letter' but it was originally done by The Box Tops. I really hope you get to The Box Tops' version of The Letter. It's amazing and especially so when you consider the lead singer (Alex Chilton) was only 17 years old at the time.
The lead singer was only 17? He did a phenomenal job!! 🎶❤️🎵
@@corinnepmorrison1854 I was surprised when I found out too.
"Unchain My Heart" was a #1 Billboard Hot R&B hit for Ray Charles in 1961. Joe Cocker really matches brother Ray soul-for-soul in this 1987 release - #11 Billboard Mainstream Rock.
Joe was a gentleman, and was born and bred about 20 miles from where I live, so I feel immensely proud of that fact. "Up Where We Belong" from the movie "Officer & a Gentleman" (Which I hope is on your list of movies to watch) and "Delta Lady" are great songs by Joe. 🎶🎼🎙❤🇬🇧
Delta Lady is a personal favourite. ❤
Now you need to hear Ray Charles do the original. And it's one of his best songs!
I sang this in my band's 35th reunion concert in 2008. It was a wonderful standing room only crowd. I loved it. I'm 71 and I can no longer perform but I have my memories.
We are the blessed generation for sure fella.
I’m also a boomer and I thank God I was born in ‘54 and soaked it all up.
We had no high tech, just perfect music,we were always at a gig or headphones on absorbing yet another classic album.
Maybe I’m a music snob but todays “music” is easily the worst in history,it’s shockingly bad,but like you,I have my music and my fantastic memories.
I've been a fan for 50 years+. Something that gets overlooked is the great musicians and singers he surrounds himself with. He did a Mad Dogs and Englishmen album you would love.
I feel the best Joe Cocker hit song is 'When The Night Comes' which was featured in the Oct. '89 Tom Selleck movie 'An Innocent Man.'
No one covers a song like Joe Cocker. His raw wounded voice comes from the belly of the beast. It is the wounded soul that makes real. Try coming away from his songs like FEELING ALRIGHT without being lifted by the sermon on his voice. Or the ragged dread he brings to Beatles song COME TOGETHER. I love the sound of Joe Cocker because you will never hear it today. Because of the often sterile, perfect nature of music today, he would never be given a chance with today's audience. But we were lucky enough to appreciate the genuine quality and soul he lived and breathed into his music. And that is why he is missed.
Good time for a movie suggestion..."An Officer and a Gentleman" which features the great Joe Cocker song, 'Up Where We Belong' which won all kinds of Grammys. Great Movie and great song. Two for the price of one.
BTW, one of the greatest endings to a movie ever. You'll have to watch to see.
Sheffield's finest!!! What a legend!!!
The amazing Joe Cocker, saw him 3 times, once real close, that man sang his heart out! Try High Time We Went, another of his classics, always did it in concert to a big response. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Love this guy. Such a great raspy voice. How does he scream like that with such a voice??
The song I love is "When the Night Comes"
Lindsey Stirling - Crystalize
Joe was simply the best.
He was the kind of guy that when he opened his mouth you were in shock to hear his voice for the first time. There will be no other like Joe Cocker.
Joe has been one of my all time favorites. He that thing.
CRY ME A RIVER..... incredible🎉
Joe had "it"...soulful singer.
The backup singers really make this song, too.
Love Robert John Cocker's music 🎶🎶🎶
That's Clarence Clemons on sax! I never knew he played any songs with Joe. Outstanding! So sad both these giants are gone.
I second "When The Night Comes".
I’ve had the privilege to see him perform live once, with my late dad. This short, stocky man dominated the whole stage with his voice and charisma. Amazing
In 1987, I got to be in the studio audience of the David Letterman show, and Joe Cocker was on the show that night, singing this song!
I haven't heard that song in forever! Kudos!
Breathtaking. Just the best singer to make you feel the words. The arrangements are just top drawer...the band has their $hit wired tight, like they sayin Texas.
True❤
One of the most unique voices ever-one note and you know who it is-he knows how to work a song-You go Joe-miss you
Every Blues and Soul singer worth their salt has covered this song. But Joe Cocker makes it his own. R.I.P. Joe.
Jay and Amber I’m so happy that you have listened to this great song by the great Joe Cocker. You will also love Up Where We Belong. It was the theme song for the movie Officer and a Gentleman. I also would like you to give a listen to Stranded In The Jungle by The Cadets. It will put a smile on your face.
Love your show!
you would love she came in through the bathroom window, Beatles cover. FANTASTIC!
My favorite by Joe !!!
Joe cocker had so many incredible songs, "up where we belong" "Hitchcock railway" "what are you doing (with a fool like me)" "feelin' alright" "livin' in the promised land" "love lives on" "shelter me" and my personal favorite "when the night comes" there are so many more.
Bear in mind also this is over 35 years since he sang with a little help from my friends at Woodstock and he's still got the voice... No longer with us now tho sadly but his legacy lives on
Okay, one of the rarest of occasions where a Ray Charles cover is better than the original. No mean feat! Joe Cocker rules! So many great songs to choose from. A covers album shortly before he passed has a dumbfounding version of Everybody Hurts...
yes
When the Night Comes is a great song.
I can’t think of Joe without hearing the joke David Letterman made when he introduced him once. The name of his current album was Cocker. Dave said “Cocker? I don’t even know her.” I’ve always thought that was hilarious.
This is the ONLY cover of a Ray Charles song I've ever heard where there's not even a whiff of me wishing that it was Ray singing instead! My favorite Joe Cocker performance - and, fun fact..... that searing sax solo was by none other than the Big Man, Clarence Clemons, Bruce Springsteen's right hand man!
Ok,it's go to be said, the little dance the backup singers performed as they got on the stage was also something special in this world, and there couldn't have possibly been a better fit for Joe's singing.
He's done a few Beatles songs, With a Little Help from My Friends you've already heard, and the other one is She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.
Classic. He is a legend in his own right. Try his "When The Night Comes" sometime. Song suggestion: Eric Carmen--It Hurts Too Much (1980).
The way Rob was grabbed with the piano intro was sweet. Amber jiggling and swaying along with the beat (I was right there with ya Lady). This was fun to watch when you both jazzed out with the Sax. Love your Rob Squad Reactions.
With Joe you should always go live. He has a live video of unchain my heart that is awesome
I had the privilege to see Joe Cocker live around 1981 in a venue that held about a thousand people...amazing show!
That's Clarence Clemons on the sax solo. He was famously the sax player for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band until his death in 2011.
Such soulfulness and raw! Absolutely wonderful to listen to. But. You have got see the soulfulness and the raw sound of Bette Midler in The Rose singing Stay With Me vintage sound! This song will make you want to see the movie. All of her songs are live and raw! She channels her Janis Joplin in ALL of the songs she sings in this movie. Doesn't hurt that she was nominated for an Oscar for this movie.
His voice is so raw I love the way it sounds 👏👏
I forgot how good this song was
There are so many brilliant songs of Joe Cocker but this one rocks !!! That's what I call .Music !
Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin, the Righteous Brothers, Tom Jones and other white singers who had a rich, soulful voice and style were called ‘Blue Eyed Soul’. They were easily mistaken for black gospel, blues and r and b artists. I love them!
Another great Cocker song is My Father's Son. That's an unexpected ballad that he does so well.
You might like Joe Cocker “Cry me a river”with Leon Russell, way cool video.
Joe Cocker has also made a duet with Eros Ramasotti live. Eros is Italian singer
That's Clarence Clemons on sax...the same hall of famer sax player who played with Bruce Springsteen for many years. RIP!
My absolute favorite Joe Cocker is “Love Lives on.” It’s got a more modern sound, but it’s all Joe. And it’s so incredibly touching. An instant tearjerker for sure. ❤
Amber and Jay, that man ripping the sax on this one was none other than "The Big Man", Clarence Clemons from The E Street Band!
Every note starts in his toes, climbs up his leg bones, churns around in that chest somewhere, and comes out as clear as blood. Viva Joe Cocker,
