"Ok, This Is Obviously A Movie"
You're absolutely correct, Amber
This is from the movie "9½ Weeks"
... and what a movie it is.
Song was also used in the British comedy The Full Monty
Also in "The Full Monty" for the guys first number on stage.
Yes and it was quite risqué in 1986! The whole soundtrack is amazing.
Yup. That’s Micky Rourke and Kim Basinger. “9 and a half weeks”was the “50 shades of Gray” of its day.
Amber is definitely right. This was a scene in the movie 9 1/2 Weeks with Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger.
Yes. And I'm old enough to remember this movie. When Mickey was totally gorgeous.
It’s a shame what has become of Mickey because he was definitely hot when he was young .
9 1/2 weeks is soft porn, basically. Strange movie. I have the DVD.
@@denisewinant6366 me too. Lol
Yep!
Joe has another hit with piano horns and ladies on background “Feeling alright”and also “Unchain my Heart” is awesome!
Oh yeah! Unchain my Heart!!!!!
Love Unchain My Heart
Love unchained my heart.
Unchain my heart is a must listen!
Sir Tom Jones does an excellent cover of this song.
His cover of Prince's 'Kiss' is priceless, too
@@johnharkness7114 Priceless? Lol yeah as in no amount of money can make it a good song! It was so bad, I was offended! I don't mind Prince covers, but at least do a good job! I may be in the minority though, but it was that bad to me. Why is he covering so many songs? Sorry for my rant 😖
Joe does a great duet with Jennifer Warners in “Lift us up where we belong.” It’s a little softer side of Joe. But with his grit and her pure crystal voice it’s perfect.
Oh yes!🤩 I love that song!
Yes GREAT song....
Warnes
OMG, I LOOOOOVE THAT SONG!!!
I never knew that was him! I’m learning a lot today, thank you!😊
@@CCDzine I know. I’ll blame it on auto correct 😂
I was at this video shoot. My father was friends with a band member (R.I.P. Kevin Falvey) and arranged to meet Joe prior to the shoot in a private setting. He signed a promo photo for me. Was very polite to me and appreciated my interest in what I would see later at the video shoot. Very sweet man. Got to tour around the room and check all the instruments out. There was a track that went around the entire band that the cameraman rode on to get the footage. It was an amazing day with my father and the legend himself, Mr. Cocker. One of the best memories of my life!
What a wonderful memory!
That's a wonderful memory to have. A very cool experience!
I'm so jealous!!!
Sweet 💜
All of the storied I have heard about meeting Joe say he was a humble kind man.
Check out the Commitments you will love it."Mustang Sally" and "Try a little tenderness". The lead singer is a teenager but he gives you total Joe Cocker vibes.
One of my favorite movies! It’s such a great movie, acting and music. Great suggestion!
You should also try Joe's "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window", "Feelin' Alright", "Delta Lady", "The Letter" and "When the Night Comes". Joe was a legend and someone that B.B. King once said was the best blues singer that he ever heard.
So did Ray Charles. Lol
Oh yes Ray Charles for sure!!!!!!, grew up on his music?, basically bestme ories of my childhood. Mom loved Janis and Jimmi and dad loved Ray Charles from way back!!!! I just know they are all partying up there in heaven oh yes my really really loved SRV!!!!
They wou.d .love the stuff with L eon Russell for sure.
Melissa Ward here
Delta Lady is still one of my all time favorites from Joe Cocker - Mad Dogs and Englishmen album!
Night calls is a great song and Don't you love me anymore are two of my favorites.
If you've never seen the movie The Full Monty, which this song is in, it's well worth the watch. It's such a fun, feel good movie!!!
.....and I believe Sir Tom Jones sings the version in The Full Monty.
YES!!!!!! You DEFINITELY want to watch The Full Monty!!! Can’t recommend it enough! You will love it.
This song was on the soundtrack track for "The Full Monty"
But, that was a cover by Tom Jones
This version was originally released on the soundtrack for "9½ Weeks"
The scene in the unemployment office with Hot Stuff playing was the best 😁
@@CharCanuck14 You are absolutely correct, I had forgotten!!! Thank you for the reminder!!!
This song was written and originally recorded by Randy Newman, and has been covered by many artists including Joe. Maybe a good female Friday song would be the version done by Bonnie Rait. She is legendary. ✌🏼😎
Bonnie Raitt is someone they are completely missing on Female Friday. Should be a top listen to.
Noone like BR ONCE YOU HEAR HER VOICE you will never forget it
Yes! I've suggested Bonnie Raitt to Rob and Amber several times myself!
Yes, start with "Something To Talk About", "Angel From Montgomery" from Bonnie!!!
Love her
This song is Randy Newman straight through. Even when sung by as distinctive a voice as Joe Cocker, you can still hear Newman in there.
Definitely, even if no one sang it the music alone gives it away as a Newman composition. I do love both versions anyway.
Composer Randy Newman, one of the most witty and talented of his generation, and a member of the Newman DYNASTY of Hollywood composers.
Song written by the incredible Randy Newman 14 years before the movie.
If you are looking for the fun side of Janis Joplin, check out "Mercedes Benz". She exposes her real self in that song.
That's my favorite Janis song. I love her laugh at the end. It's the best.
Tom Jones's later cover became hugely popular, but for me, this Joe Cocker version is the best, the definitive, the only version!!
No matter what kind of song Joe sings, you always know "that's Joe Cocker!" Totally unique .
"Up where we belong" duet from an Officer and a Gentleman soundtrack. Put it on the to do list.
Yes please!!
Facts
This song was in the movie "9 1/2 Weeks", which is what these scenes are from.
Another favorite of mine is his cover of She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.
His rasp, his grit, his growl...he was born to sing the blues. Not many bluesers are at his level
Because of the movie 9 1/2 weeks I can't listen to this song without getting a little excited.😎
Snap
Lol.
As Wayne and Garth would say... Kim Basinger is such a babe .. schwing ... Also from the movie "The Full Monty"
@@Sportsref13 it was ( full Monty)
ha!
This song was written by Randy Newman who wrote songs for, "Toy Story" and also had a big hit with; "Short People". FUNNY FUNNY MAN!
He wrote this for a movie in the late 80's. He and Joe re-released it for another movie in the mid-90's. It's Randy Newman on keyboards of this version.
Met Joe three times and he was one of the nicest human beings I have ever encountered.....fan for life!
Yes, it CAN get better. All that you said, but having Tom Jones sing it with all the fun, and style, plus a whole bunch of sexy. Tom's is the version everybody heard in "The Full Monty", and it's... jusst... GREAT.
You are so right. The cover is better than the original. Also if prefer Tom's cover of Kiss as well for the same reasons you gave.
Y'all silly. Are yall saying Tom Jones could possibly be ...b... bet...betttttt, I can't say it. It's ridiculous.
Anywho, that's a framed photo of Tom Jones on the wall directly behind them. I think they know he sang it.
Now you need to hear Cocker's version of "Unchain My Heart" from around this same time.
Yes! My favorite Joe Cocker song. It's from the 1986 movie "9 1/2 Weeks" starring Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke (before he started boxing and he still looked good. I never saw 50 Shades of Gray, or read the book, but I have a feeling this was 50 shades before 50 shades. Don't watch it with the kids!
Yes, it was a pre 50 Shades.
From a fellow Sagittarian 1956!
Nah..nothing like 50 Shades but it was..erotic.
You're right he did look good then. Is it me or did bruce Willis and micky Rourke look very simular at that time?
@@emo-chan8015 Yes, they did.
You need listen to Joe Cocker walk into a bar late at night and rattle the dust and floorboards as he absolutely smokes the place with his rendition of the Ray Charles classic, UNCHAIN MY HEART. He brings soul, grit and just enough gospel to call it home, before leaving the dust to settle in his tracks as he leaves. And his sideman isn't half bad either.
And if want to get back to his roots, FEELIN' ALRIGHT and THE LETTER are great numbers.
Feelin Alright... The Letter... these are musts for any Joe fan...
Have you heard "When The Night Comes", "Feeling Alright" and "Up Where We Belong" with Jennifer Warnes.
This song was also used in "The Full Monty"
HOW have you not heard "Unchain my heart" yet??? It's BY FAR the best song of Joe Cocker... and the one that showcases his gritty voice the best... an absolutely legendary song...
A great cover of the Ray Charles classic!
Joe toured Australia regularly but I missed out on the concerts. My friends raved about the voice, the passion, the backing vocals, the horns and much more - his last album in 2013 is great too - amazing voice til the end, sadly. Joe was the best. So glad you appreciate him.
The movie is 9and half weeks . This song is straight FIRE 🔥.
My favorite use of this song is the end of the movie The Full Monty. It makes me smile every time. 😊
Mickey Rourke was so handsome back then.
Reminded me of Bruce Willis.
And Kim back in the day!
Before he decided to be a boxer and got the crap kicked out of him.
The late great Joe Cocker had so many great songs such as this one. "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" and "Come Together" were great versions of other Lennon/McCartney penned songs, like "With A Little Help From My Friends." Also worth checking out are "Feelin' Alright", "Unchain My Heart", "The Letter" and a more recent song "Hymn For My Soul."
Our friends favorite song. May he be at peace.
Has no one recommended Randy Newman? He has a twisted mind and a unique but also Cocker-like voice. Besides "You Can Leave Your Hat On", there's "Mama Told Me Not To Come", "Short People" (it's about prejudice), "It's a Jungle Out There", "I Love to See You Smile" and "He Gives Us All His Love".
Joe sings a song written by Leon Russell called “Delta Lady.” It was probably his first hit and it is fantastic. You need to hear it.
That is one of the great songs from Mad Dogs and Englishmen album. There is so many to choose from that concert
Delta Lady was written about Rita Coolidge who interestingly was a background singer in the Mad Dogs and Englishmen band
Delta Lady’s one of my all time fave Cocker tunes.
Yes!! I was going to suggest this one, too...
The movie shown here is called "9½ Weeks", starring Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke.
"Unchain my Heart" the best Joe Cocker song ever!!
One great but often overlooked Joe Cocker song is his cover of 'The Letter' Lots of live grit!!
Y’all need to check out Joe’s song “Feelin’ Alright?” It’s my go to Cocker jam. The piano intro and drums on that track are so good!
My face as well
AGREED!
Joe is a legend but that band is right up there with him amazing.
I’m so proud of you guys for covering all the songs that you cover from the first 30 years of my life
You love horns. You love piano. You love story telling. You'll love Billy Joel "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant". You are going to thank me.
Add New York State of Mind for that crooner sound.🧡💛
Hear hear!
💯
Unchain My Heart, when the Night Comes, Now that the Magic is Gone, Feeling Alright, Up where belong!!!!!
So fun to see Janis Joplin's face bobbing along to the music, with her tongue wagging -- Janis was loving it! I bet she and Joe are jamming in heaven!
Don't forget the BeeGees, they showed up for the reaction as well.
Down on The Corner BLESS BABY LUCA ✌️💯 RESPECT 💝🌹
I cant hear this without picturing "The Full Monty"... one of my faves!
I like Tom's version best.
Can't hear this without picturing Robert Carlisle in that security hat. Fantastic movie. Fantastic sexy song
Speaking of Randy Newman, Short People is a fun one, lol
Can't hear this song without thinking of Kim Basinger dancing and doing a strip tease. Saw 9 1/2 Weeks with a group of guys and girls in '86 and all the guys were in love with Kim Basinger and the girls were in love with Mickey Rourke (before all his drugs and alcoholism) after the film. I bought the soundtrack of course too.
"Can't Find My Way Home" Is a great Joe Cocker song, too
You'd probably like Leon Russell's Stranger in a Strange Land. It has this vibe. He was a master and worked with Joe Cocker for years.
Since you mentioned Leon Russell, how about "A Song for You"?
"You Can Leave Your Hat on" was used in the movie "9 1/2 Weeks" with Mickey Rourke & Kim Basinger. Kim does a striptease to it. It's one of my favorite songs by Joe Cocker...if I have to pick a favorite of his. But some of my other favorite songs by Joe that you haven't listened to yet include "Unchain My Heart", "Feelin' Alright" & "Bad Bad Sign".
Up Where We Belong with Jennifer Warnes from An Officer and A Gentleman was a huge hit for Joe. I love it!
Always my favorite Cocker song!
Please react to Jim Croce, a new artist for you that I’m sure you’ll both love. “Operator” “Time In A Bottle” “ I Got A Name” to name a few.
Roller Derby Queen, Bad Bad Leroy Brown :)
This is from the movie 9 1/2 weeks. This was before 50 shades of grey. Also from the movie The full monty!
My favorite Joe Cocker song. Love this.
I remember laughing it up in the bar with friends years ago to this song. So much fun. The girls giving us that cute crooked eye look. Good memories.
Here’s a good one for you. BARRY GIBB and Barbra Streisand duet. A song called - Guilty.
Love that one. Also What Kind of Fool by Gibb/Streisand.
@@7gelis Yes. But I would really like to vote for "You don't Bring Me Flowers" Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand. Maybe her best duet.
Also by Randy Newman! Bonnie Raitt does the best cover of it, in my opinion, but there are very many good ones
Anybody ever see the English film, "the Full Monty?" They played this at the end.
Excellent movie! Bought it on DVD years ago and still watch it.
In my opinion this song is the perfect one for an exotic dancer to play when she's at work.😅👍💯
Joe's great song You can leave your hat on was on The Full Monty. I love this voice.
Unchain My Heart should be your next Joe Cocker reaction. Grit, soul, and complete perfection.
Lololol … This should have been on a Sultry or Saucy Saturday. I’m tellin’ ya. “Sway” … Dean Martin … Right up there with this one.
I love, love, love watching you two enjoying this music like my friends and I did when these gems first came out! Thanks for letting us watch you two beautiful young people! Lynn, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Was fortunate to see Joe Cocker live at The Roseland Theater in Portland, OR, 2004, I think. It was everything you might hope.
Love Joe Cocker but also looking for you to react to the great still going, Boz Skaggs! You will not be disappointed
CZcams him and John Belushi singing together. It's hilarious!
Joe's banger,She Came In Through the Bathroom Window! is a must guys!🎙👊
Funny you mention SRV. I was fortunate enough to see in concert Joe Cocker opening for Stevie Ray Vaughan. The both blew the roof off the San Diego Sports Arena.
Recently discovered this was done originally by Randy Newman.
Tom Jones did a spontaneous cover of this on The English version of the Voice! Great pick and reaction
I adore this song! I didn't realize it was a Randy Newman song - makes sense. The only version I have ever heard was this one and that is enough for me! Love Joe Cocker!
Joe Dockers Came in threw the bathroom window is another one of songs like this, Saw him in concert as a warm-up for Stevie Ray Vaughn also performing was Dr. John, Fandamntastic concert, it was just a month before we lost Stevie
Suzanne Vega “Luka” next please
Yes, yes, and yes...and pretty much any of her other great songs!
Great song, and Tom Jones did sing, "My Way". Look it up, it's pretty amazing!!! It is just the video he did for this song.
I saw Joe in a concert in Vancouver Canada maybe about 1973-ish. He was brilliant even though he was drunk and they brought out a chair for him to sit and finish the fabulous show.
Joe has that addictive sound...Blessings
The hammering piano, the trombones and that gravelly voice.... 🥵🥵🥵🥵
Edit:
Of course this song was made UBER famous by the film, The Full Monty, made and set in Sheffield, where I live!! 👍👍👍
You should listen to Joe sing High Time We Went studio version for a kicker of a song! The keyboard is so sharp!
That is GREAT
Single piano note and the horns
That's some bad ass swing.
She Came in Through the Bathroom Window. It’s another Beatles cover. One of my favs
If you want a banger like this song look no further than ...."It's High Time We Went" funky piano and just a powerhouse vocal and musical statement!!
Before 50 Shades….we had 9 1/2 Weeks.✌️😎
Ooh for loads of fun do "She Came In Throught the Bathroom WINDOW, MY FAVORITBY HIM!!!! Broke into my home this way- laughing the whole way, almost fell in the window, lmfao!!!!!❤❤❤
“9 1/2 weeks” is the movie. Intense movie…love this Cocker song!!
Joe Cocker always puts his soul into all his songs. Speaking of Trumpets, I can't remember if you have done a reaction to the Group "Blood Sweat and Tears" but you should listen to their song "Spinning Wheel" Has a lot of aspects that I know you both will love.
For a great piano/raspy voice combo try Bonnie Tyler's "Faster Than The Speed Of Night", written and produced by Jim Steinman.
Joe always had the best backup singers. I soooo wanted to be one. 🎶
LOVE the scenes from "9 1/2 Weeks". A young and beautiful Mickey Rourke and Kim Bassinger make for great viewing. And Joe Cocker was older here, but he still did this song justice.
Tom Jones has a great version of this song too guys :)
czcams.com/video/9ugAdGI2l8U/video.html
Tom Jones did a cover of this song which appears on the soundtrack for "The Full Monty"
Hi Amber and Jay, Joe Cocker is a Legend. A good song is (He's My Brother). R.I.P. Joe Cocker. Keep up the good work 👍 from Dave in Australia.
Unchain my heart ❤️ , definitely one of his best. Also, up where we belong. Always good to hear Joe Cocker, never disappoints.
The Tom Jones cover is just as great as this
One of many movies that he helped make famous. Changing the subject entirely. The finest live concert ever to be committed to video can be found at "Joe Cocker live in Cologne" . Produced by Sony and filmed at every conceivable angle you are never bothered with cameras or the production crew.
It is perfect and perfectly professional.
The actress who was dancing is Kim Bassinger and the man on the couch is Mickey Rourke! The name of the movie that this song was n in called 9 and a half weeks! Awesome film!
This song is featured in The Full Monty. One of my fav comedy movies of all time. Such an iconic song.
