    Hated my 01 because of the starting problems. Been in storage for almost 20 years.
    My grandson wants to ride so I put in the hot cam and did a carburetor rebuild. Starts and runs great now. Almost a new bike!

      You may need to drill holes in the fender depending on which fender you get, but it’s an easy conversion overall.

    I loved my 2001 or 2002 Yamaha YZ 250F they had bleed valve back then u could push or hold and was suppose to deflood the bike faster and quicker if feel over and I had a Yoshimura full exhaust system or maybe just slip on but I think was full system and K&N air filter and lil upgrades and she sit in garage for almost a week and on weekends had about half dozen or more riders that rode every weekend no matter temp or weather and when my yz250F had not been started in few days and was cold outside all my friends would come in garage with me bc after about 5 or 6 kicks she would start and she would shoot flames out of my 02 YZ250F didn’t keep track with changes and bought brand new WR250R in 2020 and not and I thought everything be same and have a carbureted fuel injection and they did not allow test rides and if I rode that WR250R 30 feet I would have takin it back in dealership stupid EFI even with Yoshimura RS-4 and power commander and sprocket changes and EXUP eliminator still don’t have HALF a as much power as yz250F from 02 why my 2020 WR250R for sale on Facebook marketplace so I can go get a yz450F or YZ450FX and convert street legal after having a wr I don’t even think the WR450F worth looking at I want to ride wheelies for miles and ride on highway and race on motocross track

    I have an 01 and it starts just fine and I don't use that decompression lever, in fact the decompression level makes it near impossible to start. As soon as you start to feel compression on the Kickstarter, be a man about it and kick thru the compression. Mine starts first or second kick

    • @That_1KidBen
      @That_1KidBen Před 6 měsíci

      Same with my bike it kicks first try when it’s cold, only problem is that if you kill it after it gets hot it’s a pain to try to start again.

    • @bricehale6593
      @bricehale6593 Před 5 měsíci

      the 01 u should use the decompression lever there is only one way possible the decompression lever would make it harder for you to start is if you're holding it the whole time you're kicking you're bike over thats not how it works you only need to pull the lever in for a split second to roll it just past TDC then let off the lever and kick it will fire first kick every time i have a 01 yz250f myself and I had to watch a bunch of videos and really learn about it because first 3 or 4 time I took my bike out I didn't know what I was doing and would be stuck in the woods with a bike that I couldn't start. Shouldn't force it threw the hard spot thats what the decompression lever is for it will wear the one cam out in that spot and when doing it properly if it's really hot and won't start pull the red lever out on the carb thats the hot start just make sure you push it back in when you get it fired up hope this helps Goodluck

    • @Motorbolt
      @Motorbolt  Před 6 měsíci

      You won’t find anything for those years since it wasn’t an option from the factory. You’ll have to order it from a newer 03+ bike that had the hot start cable.

    Hey guys awesome video! I'm doing a similar thing with a 2001 YZ250F, keen to replace front fender and number plate with a more modern look. Do you know what year front fender & number plates are compatible with the 01 YZ250F?? Cheers!

    • @RickyDangles
      @RickyDangles Před rokem +1

      Hey man, glad you like the video! We used a fender from a 2020 YZ125 on one of the bikes, and one from a 2020 YZ250F on the other. They both require you to drill new holes to make them fit, but it's an easy job. You can basically make any Yamaha fender fit by drilling new holes.

      We completely agree that this isn’t the best approach, but this is a budget build and it wasn’t worth our time/money to strip the bike down and powder coat the frame. However we used high quality roll bar paint topped with a ceramic coating. We’ve used this method before and it holds up well. It’s also easier to touch up than powder coat.
