I knew a girl in school who dumbed her self off of honor roll because she thought boys liked her better when she was clueless. Her boyfriend got scholarships, I have no idea what happened to her. She was 10 times smarter than he was and he’s the one who got the scholarships because she thought a boy was more important than herself

He was never stupid. Just kind of lazy and hormonal in male adolecent way. His dad and mr feeny knew he was smart just didn't put in the work. He may have started college late but he got into one. Cory is average c+ student sometimes put in work sometimes didn't. C is average. I think if Eric put in work he could have been a b+ student.

There's an interesting theory out there that the show was in Cory's view. When he was younger Eric was the coolest person in the world to him and then as he grew older Cory's view changed as did ours.

Actually they did that with a lot of the characters not as noticeable as they did with Erick. For example Cory in the beginning was slightly lazy and prefered not to study but when he did do it he was smart. he also would learn valuable lessons. later on in college they dumbed him down too and all he cared about aside from Shawn was his relationship with Topanga sort of on an obsessive level. Topanga was a smart student but she didn't know everything and also cared about other things, later on in the show she became sort of a know it all and obsessed over getting perfect grades. Morgan was little but she loved her brothers and would sometimes have witty comebacks but later when they changed the actress they made her almost always mean to Cory and Eric. Jack when we first meet him he actually got into college on good grades but then in the last seasons he also was dumber than when we first meet him and sometimes would be as obssesed with girls and in some episodes just as dumb as Eric. its a good show don't get me wrong but its a shame they did that with Erick.
Natalie Ybarra I agree. They were much better when they were in high school. I found Cory to be kind of annoying in college and the show was way better when Eric acted like a normal older brother, but in college everyone treated him like he was mental. I was also really sad when we never saw Mr. Turner again. He was a big part of Shawn’s life for the year his parents weren’t there, so I was disappointed when they never even mentioned him again. All in all, the show was better in the earlier seasons, but I still loved the show and think it’s wayyy better than girl meets world. Sorry for the rant, but I needed to get that off my chest 😂

That to me showed he actually matured from being girl crazy and having to be "the boss" over the younger kids into a fun-loving guy who got to unwind, but he was always an intelligent guy through and through...
I know this is old but when we say dumbed down we're talking about his college years especially the last two seasons of the show. The scenes you're talking about he still hadn't gotten into college yet because he still struggled about his self worth after high school, then got into college met Jack and they both were dumbed down Characters. Yes Eric had his moments of intelligence but the last two seasons it was bad. He is still my favorite character but it's sad to see his character arc just go downhill.

I loved Eric's character in the early seasons. Don't get me wrong I love all incarnations of Eric, but it still annoys me how much they dumbed down his character. When reality hits and his friends move on to college but he didn't during that time, he gets real and becomes more relaxed and has moments where he becomes himself, so a dork with a good heart. Then, he adapts to that dorky attitude and his idiocy can be summed up for not putting any form of education forward before he got rejected from college. As later seasons go, while he became a buffoon at times in actions and attitude, it's just the real eric. Still, his best qualities still shine through like caring for others, putting his needs behind for the sake of helping another, and being the unexpected help when no one called for him or when being mocked. It's my theory but I'll take the eric that appears in season 7 and throughout girl meets world than the other morons written who aren't written with heart or aren't given moments of peace and are just people to point at the dummy of the day.

OTHER continuity errors: * 5 people played Topanga's parents through out the show * Jonathan Turner was never seen after season 4's Cult Fiction * Harley Keiner was played by a different person for a short period during season 2 and 3 * The mix up of when Cory and Shawn AND Cory and Topanga met * Shawn and Topanga's "sisters" * Minkus was never seen after the first season (until season 5's Graduation episodes) even though he went to the same high school as Cory and Shawn
Too bad youngest brother Josh didn’t learn from Eric about this situation and proceeded towards the dark path so that the writers could smush their OTP together (and proceed to do nothing with them). Poor Maya was gaslit and groomed and the writers were saying that it’s a-okay because Maya needs to be constantly sacrificing her happiness for her spoiled brat best friend.

Well, the actress is 22-23 here, so she could have gotten married soon after this and moved to Australia and only sees her family once every 5 years or something.
I saw somewhere this is because the characters are seen through Corey’s eyes. So when he was younger, he looked up to and thought his older brother was the coolest. But then, as he grew up, he sees that Eric is actually not as cool as he thought and is just a goofy guy.

Yeah, Topanga and Shawn both had a sister that appeared or was heard of on the show ONCE in the first season, and never spoken of again! Continuity errors of BMW. OTHER continuity errors:
* 5 people played Topanga's parents through out the show
* Jonathan Turner was never seen after season 4's Cult Fiction
* Harley Keiner was played by a different person for a short period during season 2 and 3
* The mix up of when Cory and Shawn AND Cory and Topanga met
* Shawn and Topanga's "sisters"
* Minkus was never seen after the first season (until season 5's Graduation episodes) even though he went to the same high school as Cory and Shawn
Yes, Mr. Turner was seen again, by Minkus just before graduation.

Too bad youngest brother Josh didn’t learn from Eric about this situation and proceeded towards the dark path so that the writers could smush their OTP together (and proceed to do nothing with them). Poor Maya was gaslit and groomed and the writers were saying that it’s a-okay because Maya needs to be constantly sacrificing her happiness for her spoiled brat best friend.

Well, the actress is 22-23 here, so she could have gotten married soon after this and moved to Australia and only sees her family once every 5 years or something.

Eric was always the cute one until he got older
And to think she beat his ass badly when they were adults twice I think. Once during the apartment fight and once during the planning of the wedding.
I saw somewhere this is because the characters are seen through Corey’s eyes. So when he was younger, he looked up to and thought his older brother was the coolest. But then, as he grew up, he sees that Eric is actually not as cool as he thought and is just a goofy guy.
Yeah... well... I suppose.
