@@hannabobo4187 I think it's more that Cory and Topanga's family was never really in doubt. Everytime Eric got close, he had to sacrifice it for the other person's benefit or vice-versa. His idea of happiness always seemed in conflict with him securing his future. So it would have been really nice to see him achieve that goal in particular. He got a bit flanderized in later seasons, but he was a lot of fans' favorite character for a reason.

I find it so sad that they built up Eric’s character to be this funny guy who’s good with people, sensitive, bright (but still has to work hard to get passing grades), lazy and generally a relatable character. They talk so much about his potential and he gets to prove that he is able to work hard and get into college to create a life for himself. However, once he finally gets into college, it’s like they forgot all of that. While I do like Eric’s humorous side in the latter seasons, I find it a shame that it came at such a cost to his overall character. He had such potential to be a funny, relatable character just trying to get through college and prove his worth while still being the ‘clown’ and looking for ladies. I feel like the writers didn’t do him the justice his character deserved, they just turned him into the butt of the joke any time there was tension with the drama and romance stories.
    Sorry for the rant

He acts dumb and childish for the fun of it, but deep down he’s the same guy and he knows when to be serious about things. I’m in my 30s and I’m very similar, I tend to act childish and say a lot of stuff that would make some seem stupid, but I do it to make some fun in my life and the lives of my friends and family. But I also know when I need to take things seriously.

Throughout the series they showed certain things Eric excelled at. Weather, Art, working with kids, even teaching at one point, but then they just totally threw out the possible careers from those story lines for the sake of comedy. It felt like wasted potential imo. Eric Matthews went through so many struggles and obstacles throughout the entire series only for it to be thrown away at the end for a few laughs.

I think the beautiful thing about Eric's character development is that he was a sensitive guy, but because of that, had a tendency to fall into what people expected of him to help make them happy, but always fell short, because he was never meant to be what he thought the world wanted him to be. The episode with Jack was the epitome of this: Feeling like he was never good enough to "fit in" the world, even when he tried. It was only when people pointed out the unique goodness in him (like the monkey owner), did he really flourish as a genuine, good person, and only when he discovered to do things for himself did he accel.
He shows what it's like to live as a genuine likeable guy, but is often weighed down by the expectations of others and will eventually crack. If there's someone in your like that is like Eric... show them some support and confirm the goodness of who they are as a person, and that will speak volumes to that kind of person... just like it did with Eric.

I’ve said this for years- Boy Meets World was THE most important show of my generation. Just the right amount of comedy, shining a light on nearly every single problem most teens eventually encounter, impeccable honesty when it comes to family and household problems, it taught you how you should treat your friends AND your enemies, how to deal with heartbreak, and most of all- it showed us all just how effective and important 1 caring teacher can be if you simply listen to what he/she is teaching.
    Truly, a 1 in a billion sitcom.

Season 6 he had his heart broken by losing Rachel to jack and he couldn’t adopt Tommy, how is he in season 7 he sneezes lottery numbers gets mad he was never breast fed wanted to kill and marry topanga followed Cory and topanga on their honeymoon and burned his brothers room and parents room without a care in the world. Eric was the most capable of the Bmw group besides Topanga. He may not be the most educated but he certainly was the most capable, having multiple jobs, always trying to become better and when he finally gets into college he becomes probably the wisest of the cast because he understands what truly matters in life is the ones you love and i think that is why his character changes into a goofball because he finally gets it, that no matter what challenges come your way who you are to the people that love you is what defines you. Being there for the people that need you to be the person you are, just like his dad was there for him always believing he could do anything he wanted and when he finally gets it and tells his dad that he'll tell his kids what his dad taught him is when Eric realized he is exactly who he wants to be. a great big brother and a really great son and a cool person to be friends with. Eric becoming a senator who wants to change the world for the better makes a lot of sense, he's always been helping and guiding others ultimately defining who he is as a person, even when he thought he wasnt good enough, the people who loved him always seen who he truly is, a good boy trying to do good.

It’s the fact that Eric is the comic relief of Boy Meets World and we owe all that to Will Friedle. But Eric has shown himself to be much more than that as the show progressed over its 7 Seasons. When reality hits Eric hard, and it hits him like a meteor, you can feel nothing but pity for him, especially when the moment is later cut with a joke and a laugh track. From feeling like he wasn’t smart enough to graduate or be a college student, to the talk with Alan about how he treated him differently because he was the first born, and eventually with the confrontation with Cory about cleaning the Garage. Eric is a much more tragic character with how he cuts the tension with jokes and uses it as a shield when reality is too much for him or even when this man was prepared to be a father not once but twice to two different kids but had to come to terms with the fact that even though he was willing and ready, he wasn’t ready. Much love for our favorite Empath because even though he wasn’t the best in terms of smarts, this man knew the right things for others Even if he didn’t know for himself
