It's time for a Sam Firstenberg Cannon ninja movie. That means we get crazy gadgets, shirtless Steve James, and lots of ninjas running around in broad daylight.

Have you heard of Mad Heidi? It's one of those Fathom events, that only plays one day. It's on June 21st. It looks like she's fighting Swiss fascism with a Haliburton.
If you haven't yet, Revenge of the Ninja, please?
This was legitimately my grandmother's favorite movie. I watched it with her multiple times.
She sounds amazing.
You had a cool grandmother.
Nice grandma
“According to witnesses testimony’s in evidence, this message is the work of ninjas” one of the great cinematic lines of our time😂😂😂😂😂
Just remember . Ninjers and there Ninjtsu .
Steve James delivered that line with such conviction.
Utterly brilliant writing.
Michael Dudikoff is a legend. I stayed in the same hotel as the cast and crew while they filmed American ninja 4 in Africa. There was a fire in the Hotel and Michael Dudikoff was helping rescue people
Where was it filmed and what hotel??
@@mattk5020 it was filmed in Lesotho. And the hotel was the Maseru Sun. I was a kid at the time
I laughed at the drum scene. "Ninjas, assemble!" A call for all the ninjas who happen to be hanging around in hearing distance. In daylight.
You'd think the gunfire and exploding grenades and military vehicles flying in would be enough warning and the drum wouldn't really be necessary.
@@genxer1 Except if gunfire and explosions are daily occurrance in those parts.
They had to get the trainees off the swing/spike trap somehow.
Erin’s tribute to her Dad was wholesome as hell.
I thought so too!
@@JasonBrant Just keep an eye on your car mate.

"Well, according to witnesses' testimony and evidence, this massacre was the work of ninjas."
THAT IS A SENTENCE, holy shit.
Steve James absolutely delivered on that one.
Genius writing.
😂😂😂😂
Steve James absolutely ruled. RIP to a legend
Yeah, he was great. Too bad he died at 41.
@@genxer1 Damn cancer took him way too soon.
Total legend.
Originally this was written as a Chuck Norris vehicle but he refused to cover his face.
The sequel is nuts with clone ninjas & the fourth features David Bradley from American Ninja 3 & Michael Dudikoff.
Hilarious reaction to a Cannon classic.
Can't wait to watch the others.
Finally, my all time martial arts cheese. I can't count the times I watched it with my buddies to get inspired to beat the sh*t out of each other in the back yard. God, I love being an '80's kid.
Wish I'd seen this as a kid!
I had a vine maple tree, me and my buddies made more swords from that thing than I can remember, and we beat the ever living shit out of each other. Thanks in part to this movie along with pretty much anything Sho Kosugi did. Flipping loved the 80's.
I had a VHS recorded from TV of this movie. I still remember the ads btw. The final confrontation was the best ninja stuff I had ever seen. Lasers! Flamethrowers! You kidding me?
This movie had me throwing ninja stars my mom bought from a flea market at trees
Nice!
I had the whole ninja kit, suit, swords and throwin stars, of course they were all cheap plastic.
I'm friends with Sam Firstenberg. One of the loveliest men to ever walk the Earth! He came to our bad movie festival in Spain as the Lifetime Achievement Award winner. We had a show that was a compilation of trailers and loose scenes. He laughed his way through the whole thing, but lost it in one scene in particular: "Oh my God, Toni, you have to tell me the name of this movie! It's so sh*t! I have to see it!" Then I told him the title, Cyborg Cop 2, and the name of the director: Sam Firstenberg. He nearly died laughing.
You're kidding me! That's freaking hilarious!
@@JasonBrant Deadly serious, man! We get all kinds of guests: Claudio Fragasso, Matt Hannon, JD Shapiro, writer of Battlefield Earth (now a very dear friend), Luigi Cozzi, Robert Bronzi, the Wakaliwood guys, even Steven de Souza, for directing Street Fighter. Our star guest a few years ago was Greg Sestero, who's coming back in a couple of months. He's sent me a few trailers of his new films for my opinion. Weird world to be caught up in!
"blue steel..." that cracks me up
Another Cannon masterpiece and a stand alone masterpiece as well. Let's go!!
Tons of fun.
@@JasonBrant I recommended 'I'm gonna get you sucka' a long time ago and assumed it's not really for the channel and to watch it on your personal time... but.... it features Steve James and he is brilliantly funny in it. 🤔😂

Dudikoff was purposefully channeling James Dean in this role. Menahem Golan and Firstenberg noted his strong resemblance to Dean and wanted him to play it that way as it was perfect for the character.
Yeah, it was weird, when I first saw him in movies like Bachelor Party, and an older slasher flick, after American Ninja.
He seemed like he was on speed in comparison.
Ahh, thanks for the info.
@@CorbCorbin oh, Bachelor Party... Can you imagine Tom Hanks in American Ninja?
I think I've seen this movie over a hundred times and I never get bored of it, its a classic and gets better every time
Do you pick up on new stuff with every watch?
@@JasonBrant yeah and the same with a lot of the films you watch. im a child of the vhs boom in the 90`s, i adore shit films lol
"Just cause i'm on a diet, doesn't mean i cant look at the menu" that line stuck with me since i was a kid. Have used it many times. Classic! Thanks guys.
Its one of the American Ninjas. Cant remember which.
That's a great line!
Thanks for reviewing on of my favorite movies from the 80's of all time. American Ninja was the movie that helped spur me into taking up martial arts and even when I watch this movie to this day it has a soft spot in my heart. When I was a kid it was just a badass movie and as an adult it just has enough entertainment and action with that touch of cheese that makes it still fun. Really love watching the reviews with you guys as you make the show feel like I get to be right there bantering along with the rest of you ( without you hearing me of course ). This one was a special watch for me, so thank you very much for that. Keep it up guys and I'll be there with you every step of the way.
Thanks for the kind words! Means a lot. Glad this movie has a special place for you - it's a lot of fun.
The ninja master - played by Tadashi Yamashita. a real deal legend :-)
Yeah?
@@JasonBrant Though he never carried a flamethrower or a laser lol....... (and let me clarify a traditional Okinawan martial arts guy - he was not a ninjitsu guy as far as I know. But he did fight Chuck Norris in The Octagon - costarring Richard Norton...)
+1 recommendation for The Octagon. It's Canon, it has Chuck, and more ninja training camps. Really checks all the boxes.
@@Dystopia1111 Actually ( checked to be sure) it was the classic American Cinema Productions/Releasing who did it - Chuck did a string of films with them, starting with 'Good Guys Wear Black', before he went to Cannon. I'd love to see the gang do it - but I think it's just a solid martial arts movie. 🙂
Steve James. Top 5 underrated mustaches in film history.
God this brings back childhood memories... This was the movie that originally got me into martial arts back before I gravitated to music ❤
I'm sure a lot of kids were using throwing stars because of this movie.
23:12 That guy got machine gunned, but there was no way in hell he was falling over the edge, so he climbed over to fall. 🤣
Had to make sure he hit his mark 🤣
In my opinion this is one of the best ninja movies ever. I love this movie. Thank you for reviewing it.
It's a total blast.
Favourite bit was at 23:13 steve james chopping people down with the M60 the actor acts shot throws his gun away then clumsily steps over the barrier had me in stitches
When I was a kid, I was SO into ninjas. The American ninja serie is a pillar of my childhood.
Jason wins the shirt battle today. The Gozer shirt is sweet, but it's pretty hard to beat the simple, iconic Cannon logo. It just represents waaaay too much awesomeness! Maybe a bit of a cheeky win for Jason? He's probably the kind of guy that always picks Sagat in Street Fighter. 😉😁
Haha, perhaps.
wait, there's ones you can pick OTHER than Sagat?

American Ninja II is my favorite of all these. You’ll love it when you get around to it
Dave doing the ninja finger thing should be the thumbnail for American Ninja. 😆
Haha, I like it.
Most people I know think of Michael Dudikoff when they think of this film. I think of Steve James, and we lost him way too soon. And I think that he, too, was in Weird Science, in that bar that Lisa took the guys to.
James was definitely the star of the series. And I totally forgot he was in that!
When I was 7 made my hair like Dudikoff. Now I'm 40 and would kill for a physique like Steve James.
Long live Kung Fu Joe
I used to love this movie as a kid. Michael Dudikoff what a bad ass. Haha. Its so terrible yet so good. The beach / rock fight scene was intense. 😂
Some really cool stuff in this one.
Wasn't that part 2. Lol.
I don't remember a beach in this, but I drink a lot.
@@JasonBrant The Beach Scene is in American Ninja 2. Also great like part 1. Greetings from Leipzig/Germany 🙂
The beach fight is in part 2.
You have no idea how many times we watched this at grandmas house as kids. Legendary.
The simultaneous yes form you and Erin, regarding the bike jump In his dress uniform, was perfect.
LOVED THIS AS A KID!!! I think it was responsible for at least several purchases of flea market shuriken of dubious quality and nunchaku not much better. How we all reached adulthood with all our fingers and eyes intact I'll never know.
Haha no orders from martial arts catalogs? I could really use a pair of those Chuck Norris kickin jeans.
I had a sweet pair of nunchakus.
I made my own nunchakus, and the sticks would often come off the rope as I swung them.

Just a quick note to say that the actress in Weird Science was British model/actress Kelly LeBrock and the actress in American Ninja is Judie Aronson - although they look similar, so I can see how you'd think it was the same person.
I know this because as a younger man I had the biggest crush on Kelly and watched anything and everything she was in
When I was nine, I had this movie on permanent reserve at my local VHS rental.
"The most bonkers Ninja movie of all time."

I really feel like if you love this, and you want a more modern interpretation, "Ninja Assassin" From 2009 is amazing, and it has Sho Kosugi in it!
Never thought Sho Kosugi played the villain in that movie.

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, had it on VHS, must've watched it 100 times. I didn't know it had sequels until I saw the second one in TV much later.
Did you like the sequels?
@@JasonBrant I honestly don't remember. But I think I've only seen the first two.
Cannon Films continues to deliver. I'm suprised you didn't watch this one earlier, it's bona fide classic 80's cheese.
Lots of movies, little time.
Her reaction when you said you were watching American Ninja 1, "There were 5 of these.." "Ugh!!" This was one of the best reaction vids! Laughed so hard! Why that one guy fell over in the big fight: Peer pressure!
Saw this movie in 1986, I was 8 and in Zaragoza, Spain. I was in karate at the time and thought this was the SHIT!!! So me being an 8 year old ninja in training thought I could pull off the bucket on the head trick! Needless to say, it didn't work out for me! 😅 But damn this movie brings back some memories! So this is an A+ movie for me cuz, seeing it in theaters was an experience. And me and my ninja brewed of friends had alot of fun playing American Ninja 🥷 whenever we were outside fighting each other! GREAT FLICK, but as an adult. CHEEEEZY GOODNESS!
I love that Erin called Judie Aronson, a Jewish woman whose grandfather was a Rabbi and president of the Rabbinical Assembly of America, "the Asian chick." LOL
Why does that bring to mind that one little exchange from The Delta Force? XD
"Are you Jewish?"
"No, I'm Chinese."
🤣
She was also in Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter. Like any kid back then, I remembered her because she showed her bewbs. :)
You gotta see part 2, where you get a clear, up close shot of Dudikoff's stunt double in his place. And he's not even performing a stunt.
Haha, really?
American Ninja 2 is amazing.
Dudikoffs stand-in just walks out of a room in AM 2, facing the camera. They didn't bother to change the angle
One of the greatest movies of all time. Watched it religiously as a kid in the 90's.
10:24 "we shall call him 'airtight'" underrated joke lmaooooooo i died💀
I remember my mom rented this movie from the VHS store, it contained a ninja porn parody of this movie instead...
Really?
I was wondering when you guys would get to this series, grew up with this one, as a kid I thought it was awesome
We have a video for the third one up already.
@@JasonBrant you guys are the best, I got sucked into this Steven Seagul vortex of bad movies that i had no idea he made and found your channel. Never stop lol
There should be a Steve James statue in every major city. Never forget and always remember.
"Ninjas in full daylight" is by far the best expression I've ever heard to describe a "unique" idea/choice.
Dudikoff was a male model before acting, so he was legimately trained in Blue Steel.
American Ninja 2 is my favorite of the series. It's got more beaches, betrayals, and bikes, what can I say?
Looking forward to it.
@Jason Brant it may have the highest ratio of ninja fights to runtime of any film ever made.
"According to witnesses' testimony and evidence, this massacre was the work of ninjas."
That line did not write itself. Some genius wrote that out of their brain.
Written by cocaine.

I appreciate the effort - somebody tried their best.
It takes a lot of chutzpah to dare to write a story, a book, a screenplay. Staring at a blank page or all white screen is daunting. And like Twain said fiction has to make sense which is damn hard to do.
They did their best and hats off. Their best sucked, but they tried.
8:17 is probably the best one-off line in any Cannon film, ever
🤣🤣
This is amazing and no joke! My dad had that john wayne "painting" in his bedroom for my entire childhood. The exact same one!
I loved the Look of Shock on Brian's face when we saw the Ninja Laser.

I used to watch Dudikoff's movies when I was a kid. Now I can't unsee the Blue Steel. Thanks a lot, Erin.
An absolute classic, I love this film. Also no CGI, love it.
For that brief period in Western culture when everything ninja was the coolest. I "borrowed" my cousin's copy of this on VHS and rewatched it so many times that the tape was garbage in under 6 months. To a 10 year old me it was everything I needed in a film.
Goons: *attack*
Dudikoff channeling Moon Knight: "RANDOM BULLSHIT GO!"
Huh, apparently the lyrics are:
🎶
Against the ninja
We will fight the battle to win
Against the ninja
We will fight to battle the sin
🎶
24:48 Best Dr. Evil voice: "I have one small request and that is to have Ninjas with freakin' laser beams attached to their hands..."
I didn't expect the laser, but I should have.
This brings me back to the ninja craze days. I remember how Ninja books and uniforms were flying off the shelves in the martial arts stores at the time. Some of the most successful movies of the day were the string of Ninja films starring Sho Kosugi.
This movie was actually filmed in the Philippines and co-starred some well known 80s Filipino character actors like Tony Carreon, the bearded guy with the Jean Claude Van Damme pants and Roi Vinzons who plays his mustachioed bodyguard holding his briefcase.
Michael Dudikoff was always talked fondly about Steve James when hes been interviewed over the years. He and Steve did other fims together.
My mom rented American Ninja for me as a kid. I love those movies. I had already seen Chuck Norris movies. I had a subscription to an actual ninja magazine and was trying to save money for a ninja suit. A friend of mine had one and it was awesome. He had the hand claws and could climb trees like a squirrel. His dad bought him an actual ninja sword and it was razor sharp.
Judy Aronson was in Weird Science and Friday the 13th part 4. She was the one who got gutted while lying in the inflatable raft that didn't immediately sink after the gutting.
The one thing I love about Cannon films (besides all the other things), is that they at least seemed to love the USA. Can't say that about a lot of the more modern hollywood stuff.
The actress (Weird Science) also got killed in an inflatable raft in Friday the 13th Part 4: Final Chapter. She was the one with the "reputation".
Totally forgot about that.
This was at a absolute height of ninja loving for kids at that time. knew those ninjutsu hand symbols better than any prayer i was taught and would try to make those wicked gadget gloves the bad guy wore :D
I would have loved this as a kid.
I'd love a reboot with Ryan Gosling and Terry Crews. Jet Li as the master, and Don Johnson as the pinky-ringed drug dealer.
Man this was my shit was I was a kid!!! Cool to see you guys enjoy it!
The Pinky ring thing is an incredible observation. Every movie haha! I can't believe I never noticed it but it does seem to be a common theme hahaha
I remember wearing out the tape rewinding the part of the villain’s ninja training camp. 😂
I watched this so many times in the 80’s and I still can’t enough .I think I know every line. Thanks for the great review.Hopefully there is a remake in the works ,but why mess with a classic.
Ahh, the Ninja, the silent, inconspicuous assassin that nobody ever suspects, the perfect infiltrator, sly as the fox, quick to strike like a snake, and agile like a cat. Silence and darkness are his allies..
*80's ninja movies*
"Yeah so this ninja guy fires loud bullets from his gloves, wears his ninja gear in broad daylight, oh and he has a flamethrower and a laser in his gauntlets too!"
"This is a Wendy's Sir"
8:46 wait... ist that Alf's neighbour, Mr. Ochmonek?
12:26 "Sam Hurtsemberg" strikes again!
If your Last Kumite film doesn't end with ninjas randomly storming in and killing everyone I am going to be severely disappointed. Lol!
The part where they were all trying to imitate his hand signal made me laugh so hard I cried
"He did take three guys at once. We shall call him airtight." 😬😂
🤣🤣
Thanks to Rifftrax, the cultured among us know some of the lyrics to 'Against the Ninja.'
"Against the ninja. Put me down for 20 bucks, against the ninja."

I just got
"Im tired of these mother effing Ninjas on this mother effing plane"
Early Onset Dementia is TIGHT! I can watch these over and over, and it's always like the first time. 😀
I saw this movie in theaters when it first came out in my native country of Mexico
I remember at the end army showed up at end to help the American ninja
I was jumping 7 year old me out my seat with excitement
Oh memories

"Against The Ninja, We will fight the battle to win, Against The Ninja, we will fight to battle the sin"
YOU'RE WELCOME! 😊
Loved this movie when I was a kid in the 80s. Still have fond memories even though I haven't seen it in more than 30 yrs.
Growing up my buddy and I loved all these movies. Steve James was our favorite. It’s awesome how each installment gets progressively more ridiculous. 😂
RIP Steve James. One of my favorite movies to rent as a kid. You should have a running count of SBIG movies filmed the the Philippines.
Also when this aired on tv over here back in 1993 i asked my mom to draw the star on my cheek with a ballpointpen before she took me to kindergarten for the day
Love at 23:14 the dude on the patio gets blasted with about 400 M60 rounds but still has the wherewithal to carefully climb over the railing with 3 points of contact. I guess he heard about the injuries commonplace in Sam Firstenberg movies but was behind on his health insurance premiums.
Pre-Covid Ninja... That sounds like a movie they need to watch on this show.
Haha, I'd watch that.
They can only fight 6 feet apart, and only after they have properly sanitized their throwing stars.
