    Great video. I have a 2016 535d. I've been reading that priming the fuel pump using ISTA is necessary after changing the fuel filter, to avoid damage to the high pressure fuel pump. You indicate that this isn't necessary. What say you for my car?

    i'm not sure if the way you changed the diesel filter is correct. as far as i know, diesel has to be pre-pumped with ISTA so that diesel is applied to the high-pressure pump and thus lubricated with the diesel, otherwise the pump eats itself up. if you do this with ISTA, the engine starts immediately because there is actually already pressure on the rails and only the line to the high-pressure pump has to be bled and not the commonrails. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Surprised you don't mention how the oil will be spread round the engine after running it to warm the oil and make it less viscous, also when topping up the oil you have to account for the oil not being spread round the filtration system and so really should just add 5 litres and then after running the engine leave it on a level surface to drain down excess spread round the engine, then check the dip stick for an accurate reading and top up accordingly, also i know my N47 is rated to take 5.2ltr's is this not the same across the board? (57plate E83).

    What did you use to clean the oil filter cap after changing oil filter?

  • @4711Express
    @4711Express Před 3 lety +8

    Next time also put some fresh oil on the oil filter, I tend to soak it before putting it back. Reason: a sudden pressure built up starting up the engine might push the paper flat or even crunch it but you won't know before you open the filter when the next oil change is needed. It sometimes happens.
    Changing the fuel filter every 70.000 to 80.000 km is enough. For sure it will keep the water out of your fuel system because will kill the system as it may corrode the valves and diminish lubrication! (Actually the water build up is more killing for the fuel system than dirt entering the system after all we should be able to get nice and clean fuel into the car in this modern part of the world we are living in).
    It is a risky thing just to start the engine with empty fuel filter! I bet some of the less experienced viewers will forget the quick and dirty way of filling up the fuel system and the reason is: first it is not recommended to have the fuel pump running too long without fuel as it has no lubrication trying to get the air out. That will kill the pump. The safety could kick in and stop the starter from working. You will need the laptop to connect to unlock.
    Some of your viewers will thank you for that when they won't get their car moving again after their intentions were to do something good to their car.....🙂
