  • These tricks and modifications will change your spinnerbait and chatterbait fishing! With underwater footage to help understand the tips, this video will help you catch more fish. We cover everything from skirt modifications to blade options, trailer tricks to color selection in today's in-depth look at how to put a new twist on these bass fishing classics.
Some anglers prefer to keep it casual, settling on a favorite bait and just going fishing. Others prefer to dive in to the details and really fine tune their tackle. This video has both anglers in mind. We begin with simple selections and advance to skirt modifications and trailer tricks you've never seen before.
In addition, Matt takes the time to share his favorite spinnerbaits in each category then follows it up with details about what makes them so unique. One bait is best for muddy water, another will get bit in ultra-clear conditions. When it comes to chatter baits, he emphasizes the importance of a bait that is quick to start its vibration and focuses on trailers who's movements match the blades'.
Below is a breakdown of the baits, trailers, and colors we trust to consistently catch fish. We've also included links to previous In-Depth videos we've done on both spinnerbaits and chatter baits.

I've never been great at spinners/chatters, but have been going to those more to allow my had to recover. Your channel has helped so much on the little tips that I've never really thought about. Thanks to Tacticalbassin i give them so much credit for my success in fishing lately. Im not a hardcore fisherman I recently got back into it. I was always a drop shot person but after 2 months of watching Tacticalbassin every rig I’ve used I’ve had success with especially the Kietech worm with the chatterbait, and the underspin swimbait . I caught my personal best largemouth 6-8 pounds using a bluegill 4” kietech worm on a green pumpkin chatterbait.
Thank you Tacticalbassin for all your tutorials.

I really enjoyed and benefitted from this video. Thank you! I got back into bass fishing last year during the COVID quarantine, and spinnerbaits were very effective for me on black bass and catfish(!). I used topwaters and crankbaits but it was hard for me to put down spinnerbaits because they worked consistently for me. I got into modifying skirts and changing blades last year and will experiment with your tips this year. I like your simple approach.

Bent the hell out of the spinner, but that hook was incredible and kept him in with no problem. Thank you!!!

The intermediate section for those who have fished it but are not that successful and the end for just the little tweaks once you have confidence in the bait to get the most out of it! I am new to spinnerbaits/chatterbaits but heard they slay smallies so here I am. Will be back to watch again after a few days on the water

Good tips. Up in northern Indiana I love to fish an all black full size spinner bait with a big all black Colorado blade at night. I’m the mid summer warm nights fish breaks and weed lines and slow roll it just so the blaze thumps. With a steady retrieve big bass hammer it and almost rip the rod out of your hand if you aren’t ready for it.

My brother and I used to have a 14 acre private lake we could fish. It was managed very well and that's where I truly learned how to effectively fish different baits and when to use them. One frosty January morning we got out there at daylight and we started near the dock as always. I had a solid chartreuse kvd spinnerbait and my brother had the exact model but in firetiger. They just happened to be schooled up there and they were SMOKING those baits reeled at a moderate speed! We wound up catching at least 25 fish in 10-15 minutes all ranging from 3 1/2 - 6 lbs. The next morning I had to go alone and same story. First cast was a 3 1/2, next cast was a 4, and then I nailed my pb at the time at 7 lbs. I was so excited I quit fishing what a mistake! Water was super clear for that bright chartreuse! Reminded me of this memory when you talked about those spawning smallies!

Well, I thought I knew a lot about spinnerbaits, but as usual, watching TB increases my knowledge exponentially. Thank you. Question: You've given some great insights about styles, sizes, and color of trailers. Would your philosophy of "mix and match" that you use with jigs apply to spinnerbaits? I noticed most of your color selections on this vid match, or at least complement the skirt. No shad in lakes I fish, so I will be matching a bluegill patterns mostly.

Yup, if I could only ever use one thing for the rest of my life, it would be a spinnerbait. Customization is damn near endless.

Except musky like them too. I lost a few spinner baits because of musky. I even started putting a steel leader on and a big musky broke that too.

In southeastern Wisconsin the bass and northerns like the bluegill colors for the Z-mann chatterbaits. Caught my first smallmouth and PR 30” Northern last year on one with a Yamamoto swim trailer kayak fishing.

Matt I do like you spinnerbaits and I do the same to my skirts, but I like to add extra clear strands to it for that " Clear Water". Good tip not many people realize how much of a difference when you skirt them that way! That's how I do it!

You guys have very informative videos and I understand you have found your niche on CZcams by doing these sit down talks, and it has worked out very well for you. With that said I do think you should do more raw fishing videos, or just including some fish catches in your sit downs to put some immediate proof behind your tips. I think your channel would benefit from this small change and you would get more viewers because of it. You guys are awesome and I hope you get to sticking some big ones soon! My favorite video of yours is when you just went out with an 8” hudd and caught a few fish to show just how easy it is.

    Funny my best producing somewhere
Spinner bait on the east coast from Maine to Virginia has been full chartreuse with dual Colorado gold blades. I don't even buy white spinner baits. They just haven't produced well for me in any water. I'm gonna have to give them a try again. So far everything you guys have recommended and I've tried have worked very well. Love the videos
