There is a lot more to a spinnerbait them simply casting it out and reeling it back in. You not only want to have the right spinnerbait for the conditions that you are fishing, but it is also always good to impart some action into your spinnerbait by popping your rod tip and hitting it against cover.
One of the best things to catch more bass on a spinnerbait is by simply adding a small piece of plastic to the spinnerbait itself. This will help the bass to inhale the hook better, leading to more hook ups and catches.
I hope these 5 spinnerbait tips will help you catch more bass from the boat or from the shore!
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

I got obsessed with topwater for a while now, primarily frogs. It's funny you did this video had a few nice blowups but couldn't get a frog bass in that morning but just for fun I tied on a spinnerbait, haven't used one in over 4 years prolly and I caught 2 nice base in 20 minutes, go figure. Lol
Excellent. Jimmy Houston still loves the Spinnerbait. The Beatlespin works great and many people laugh, but it catches all fish in the pan fish family. My PB is an 8 lb bass on a Hank Parker Spinnerbait 25 years ago.
Every time I tie on a Jimmy Houston spinner bait, I catch em. Never fails me. Something about it. All white, or white and chartreuse
Check out my latest video using my dads old pistol grip rod and catching em on an old spinnerbait!
I caught a 6 pound bowfin on a tiny beetlespin! I was trying to catch some bluegill but then that happened
@@austinhernandez2716 Wow!!
I fish beatle spin all the time. The black with the yellow line color, usually 1/4 ounce but can vary. I keep a 3 foot medium powered rod with 6 lb line in my belt when I am creek fishing.
Your STOP fishing videos are amazing, I learn something new and incredibly useful every time. I've said it before but you are one of the best informative fishing guys on CZcams! Would love to see a video on how you build your spinnerbaits, i feel like that would be super helpful. Keep up the great work bud!
One thanks for watching man! I appreciate it. And two, if you look at my videos I have one building a Spinnerbait
Central Ohio fishing CZcamsr... nice! I'm typically a fly rodder, but I do spin cast (occasionally), you've got me intrigued enough to dust off the spinning gear and hit the water with it. SUBSCRIBED
Great tips Ty! Thanks for the video
Just found your channel, Thanks for the great content, Im learning a lot!
Great reminders. Thanks for sharing
Great video Tyler. Super informative dude. Definitely some things i didn't think about. I am always on the fence when it comes to Trailer hooks versus plastic Trailers. Thanks for making this!!
Everyone has a different take on it. Like I said, I prefer the soft plastic in most cases but that’s just me
@@BassFishingHQ I do as well. Typically swimbaits or creature baits or the occasional fluke
Great Video my Friend and I’ve actually pulled my Culprits and other plastic worms in half and used the thin backend on my Spinners and it’s worked really well, especially the long curly tail of the culprits lol. Stay safe my Friend Semper Fidelis and thank you for the Intel.
Thanks for the info I appreciate it and keep up the good work
Great video, thanks for the info 👍
Love your videos Sir. Always super knowledgeable, and usually spot on like this one about the spinner bait. Jimmy Houston spinner still kicks butt for me. I have more luck with his or KVD's spinner.
Keep up the great videos my friend. And good luck on the water. 👌✌👍🙏💪
Thank you so much for the tips man you are dropping some jems
Thanks brother!
Fishing spinnerbaits on the drop has worked well for me. I use a 1/4 or 3/8 oz spinnerbait with a large colorado blade and a plastic trailer... cast over a weed bed, reel back to the weed edge and let the bait helicopter down on a semi-tight line. Getting bites from the fish hanging out in the shadow of the deep weed edge. Later in the summer when the weed edge is visible casting parallel to the weeds and letting the bait flutter down to the bottom and reeling up to let it drop again gets a lot of hits. Again, sun location and shadow are important - works best if you fish in the shadow.
I had to get done watching jimmy houstons vid. But im here. Thanks for the content def one of the best on youtube
I love putting a paddle tail trailer and then put a trailer hook on top of it. 😉 always great tips my brotha!
I always fish a Spinnerbait on Mono. The stretch helps the bass get the bait deeper and the extra sensitivity of Flouro gets me setting on the change of vibration.
Was just discussing spinnerbaits with a friend today, for some inexplicable reason I never throw one even though I've caught some nice fish on them, really need to start throwing them again
I never really threw spinners my entire life but I've been slayin' em on the spinners past few weeks on the river.
@@ericwirtz1019 still haven't thrown one although I have a dedicated rod for chatterbaits I keep on the boat lol
Perfect time for this video. Fished 4 hours without a bite today till I put on a spinner bait then crushed them for the next 2 hours lol. Not a bait I can throw much in my area due to the amount of grass in the local lakes so I always forget I have them.
Dude your channel is quickly becoming one of my goto channels for everything. Thanks for the hard work and time man keep it up 👍
Thanks so much man. Means a lot
This was one of the best spinnerbait vids I have ever seen. Great tips and ideas.
I've never actually fished a spinner without a trailer soft plastic. can't wait to try these out!!
This is why fishing is funny. I think I’ve caught more without a trailer. The stinger hook helps a lot to.
trailers arent needed
Fished them for years when I was a kid an never knew that people even put trailers on them 😂😂😂
This guy is super helpful 🤙
Here there’s a lake called whites creek lake in Eupora, MS and right now the bass are schooling up on the shad hard right now and a white spinner bait with a swimbait trailer is killer!! So is a largo shad with an underspin! Last 2 trips caught over 20 bass each trip
Fishing is the most contradicting sport that exists. “Fishing spinner baits in murky/dark water is key” - “man I’m telling you guys fishing a spinner bait in clear water is a must!”
I know, the simple truth is that if bass are actively feeding they will hit just about anything that looks remotely close to their natural prey and is within striking distance
@@tylerdurden5147 I’d have to agree. I have my techniques that have proven well over the years but I’ve always caught plenty of bass while just bringing my lure back into the boat after a bad cast. My PB came from me just fooling around.
Diff types of spinnerbaits for each condition…
That’s clear water _when it’s windy_. He’s using a technical definition of noise as something that interferes with sensing, regardless of which sense.
Ty, thanks so much for sharing this detailed video. I’d like to plug a few holes in my understanding: 1) Are all other spinner baits size 1/2 oz besides the one you said is 3/4 oz (single Colorado)? 2) for the Colorado/Indiana version what are the blade sizes.; 3) for the Colorado/Willow version what is the Willow blade size?; and lastly, for the Go to River version, what are the blade sizes? Sorry if I missed any of this in the video! I would like to order the right parts to make a few of these for myself. Thanks so much!
Excellent tips!
Only caught 1 bass on a spinner bait about 15 years ago. I've taken it out many times but got just the one. Hopefully things will be better with these tips. Thanks
same here !
Spinners are always in my arsenal and even still use my first ever one that I got 10 years ago. And yes people don't use these as regular heavy cover baits, and they lose. To be honest I never bought but baits, but a buddy let me borrow it for the day. And I caught more fish on the spinner, than the buzz. Idk if it's luck or versatility.
Great tips, thanks
Thanks for watching Double T
took the trailer hook off and tried with a trailer., im sold. they sucked it in and i put the hammer down, worked exactly like you said
The thumb nail is very catching! 💞
I went creek fishing with a friend right after a big rain came through. He stopped at Walmart got 5 of their $1 Colorado black spinnerbaits and a pack of black/chartreuse ribbon tail worms. Put the worm on the spinner and schooled me all day long. Now that’s one of my go-to for muddy river fishing.
Fun drinking game:
Take a shot every time he says spinnerbait(s). You'll be throwing up by the end of the video 😂
Great video.
I used to be a spinnerbait/lipless guy up until the last 10 years or so, not sure why I drifted away from it but this year I will give a go again.
Works year round. Don't forget mini spinnerbaits! They make big difference mid summer. Ty tc
I love adding weight to my spinner bait so I can fish it faster and deeper. I use a bull shot from gremlin on the wire ahead of the existing lead head. It’s a bullet weight that is split like a split shot sinker.
Bass and pike too love spinnerbait
What trailer grub you use that was chartreuse with black dots ?
Would be interesting to watch you build 1 from start to finish. Fish on!!!$$
The thumbnail explained everything in 1 picture for me.... genius!
Love the shirt!!!!! Is that a real company???
Great video and great tips! Thanks for the ideas!
Great video
Love the shirt bro! Born and raised
Great tips as always. I really like fishing a spinnerbait with yamamoto grubs. I usually use a dab of superglue to hold grubs on depending on the spinnerbait.
In some lakes in my area, about the only way I can get bass to bite is to slow roll a Colorado-bladed spinnerbait on the bottom. It seems to work better with darker colors, black/blue etc.
Thanks!
Great video one thing to add when you listed all the parts to build your own spinner bait when you buy the ball bearing swivels purchase a pack of cross lock snaps. This will give you the ability to change blade combinations quickly. Fishing the Ohio River I have had this happen many times where they won’t touch in Indiana blade and I switch to a smaller Willow leaf blade and start catching fish keep the good videos,
Soft plastic jerk bait for a trailer is awesome too
I live in Louisiana, what bait should I use to catch the most bass?
I fish them without a skirt too. The grub or paddletail is more important than the skirt.
Thank you man for all your videos I just got my personal best on Superbowl sunday she was 8.5 lbs! I got her on my favorite lure an all chartreuse double willow gold booyah spinnerbait with a white keitech!!! I love spinnerbaits!
For sure !!! We throw a spinnerbait all year round on the TVA
Just caught my pb on a plain old white spinnerbait with no trailer. Was just trying to figure it out.
i have a kind of big spinnerbait with a trailer holder and the hook is separate from the head long spoons, i put a long trailer on it and use it almost jigging with it, i catch more fish with that than all my other lures together, it looks almost like a fly with spinning spoons. big pikes, musky, big bass.
Awesome video as always thanks. I'm becoming a better fisherman
I've never had a fish short strike a spinner bait or seem to have any trouble whatsoever sucking it in. I have had them hit the blades before but- it was dinks that I didn't really care to catch anyway. The only trick I have concerning spinner bait is to remove the skirt altogether and add a soft plastic instead- seems to work better in clearer water. Jewel makes one you can buy this way- comes with a 4.8 keitech on it- good bait. But- I usually just tear the skirt off one and add whatever plastic I like. In dirty water I leave the skirt on- in clearer water I take it off and add a plastic. Rarely run a plastic with a skirt though- don't see any need to really.
I use this bait to locate bass and also when others baits are drawing zero hits. Need to find any kind of structure weed beds rock pile downed trees and docks. Color makes a huge difference as well as the size of the spinnerbait. And beat the same area in the water several times the first few cast alert the fish and subsequent cast is when you can get hit.
Just caught 8lber on spinnerbait few fays ago
I’ve never caught a fish on a traditional spinner bait. Only in-line spinners and a modified beetlespin.
I'm backlashing like crazy casting spinnerbaits on my Lews Hypermag. Do you tighten your cast control knob tighter for casting these lures?
Hmmm you shouldn’t be. I like my spoil tension knob pretty lose, but I tend to mess are with the brakes a little more
I'll try cranking the breaks up to max.
That reminds me, I need to order more swivels and look up the correct way to transfer new line onto a reel.
Spinnerbait is my favorite spring bait. I love slow rolling it on the bottom. If you don't feel the bottom then you're rolling too fast.
In the summer one of my favorite patterns is using a short arm spinnerbait and realing into milfoil clumps and popping it free. It gets smashed. Use braid line.
Janns netcraft has some good spinnerbait components too
I just got into spinnerbaits this year and have caught my biggest bass and catfish ever.
Trailer hook is very important
Skipping a spinner bait up in cover has done well for me too, you wouldn’t think it would skip but indeed it does.
Yes especially when you but a big piece of plastic on there
I caught a 7 lb pike today on a spinner bait in coffee coloured water. It's just an around bait.
Does downsizing your spinnerbaits really matter In creeks and ponds?
may have been a year ago i live in florida and caught 4 decent bass on a single spinner 2 days ago
Spinner bait is my #5 baits. Will even toss it just on to the tip of the shore, then real it into the water then bam
What kind of grub is that?
what you just said about the plastic is why the spinnerbait with the weight behind the skirt was designed to give the bass something to feel in there mouth to close it on it why it shape like a shad body of lead
Just came home from fishing. I just missed the pike of a lifetime not using a trailer. It hanged on for 5 seconds before it came off. I am so mad right now.
Just caught a TANK the other day on a spinnerbait. The wind picked up a bit so I picked it up and BAM 2nd cast and then I have the biggest fish of the year in my boat in a matter of 2 minutes. Spinnerbait catches the bigguns.
I smashed a few this morning on the spinnerbait. But the bite dies off so quickly in my area
how do i "pop those blades"? I don't understand. Stop reeling?
Pause -Pump-Reel..... Repeat.
@@carlbodene8150 Thanks, Carl!
Tried this today with a trailer with the tail popped off. Nailed a nice one.
Spinnerbaits are awesome to use in the right situation.
One thing I Learned from fishing is that there is no wrong way to fish.
I haven't caught anywhere near as many fish on a spinnerbait in the past few years as I used to.
i like to wake the spinnerbait. its my favorite topwater bait.
Spinner baits are my favorite way to fish.
I own like 200 spinner baits. I rarely use them, but i continue to buy them. I need therapy.
In my opinion, a belly weighted swim bait with an under spin is interchangeable with a spinner bait. Both of them mimic a mini Alabama rig, Seth Feider pointed that out on bass university. I’d rather use a belly weighted swim bait w/underspin being that you can change out the colors of the blades and plastics a lot easier
Ive thrown both and they are still a different tool to me. The skirt is key sometimes in adding bulk and extra flow and action.
Whatever works, but to me, the design of a spinnerbait is more streamlined and weedless than a swimbait/underspin.
@@andywilliamson7846 yea i agree. Underspins for open water and spinnerbaits around cover. Underspins would hang on every other log on the bank. Chatterbaits hang up bad around wood too.
WAIT... The hat ACTUALLY has a wooden fish on it?
WHY??? 🤔
Wood
Paddle tail trailers all day on a spinner
YOUR A FKN TREE GUY??? I’m a tree guy! I want to be you.
most videos done at indian?
Are you fishing in Ohio
spinnerbait needs moving water
click-bait! there's no wrong way to fish a spinnerbait. It would have been better to say here's some tips on how to fish a spinnerbait.
