- Here's my second modification of the LEGO Technic 42160 Audi RS Q e-tron, this time upgraded with a BuWizz 3.0 Pro unit and 2 BuWizz motors. I thought I'd do a really unfair comparison and pit it against the Traxxas Slash 2WD! 😈

The main issue with Lego RC for myself has been the lag associated with Bluetooth, or horrible touch controls. I've been experimenting with using RC components to drive Lego RC vehicles to have a better experience
the models can also be controlled using the brickcontroller 2 application, where you can program the gamepad...then the control is much better and more accurate..
@@Matej-Brick I've used BrickController2 a lot, I even found a RC transmitter that works with it over USB. Still for fast vehicles the lag was too much for me

Calculated it earlier, with about 100 Euro I can make every lego modell go almost 40 km/h. Buwizz was never worth the money
Some manufacturer needs to make a 6 channel 2.4ghz box that can be used with rc car radios it would be so helpful and boost the power of the lego motors because the receivers only need a small amount of power not mentioning the extended range
After 400 euro of engines it’s refreshing to know that instructions are available for free on the website. :)
I quite like the mood of these videos which are all about RC cars.
The RC vs lego series is very helpful because I am currently facing a similar choice. I have an Audi (my first RC technic set) but the performance on Lego electronics is terrible. For the price of the BUWIZZ set, you can buy, for example, TX4M, which will be both faster and more efficient off-road. But I love the modifiability of Lego bricks, the ability to rebuild the model and test new technical solutions (gearboxes, differential locks, etc.), I think that building gives me more fun than playing, so I lean towards BUWIZZ.
Is this the speed cap then of the lego? is there no other products available that will increase speed/rpm?

The slash shown in the comparisson is the slowest variant available... the brushless version with 4x4 drive is able to go 50+ mph. Also, the batery life on these allow to drive for very long time if you are gentle with the trottle. 1,5h+ was my record with the rustler (same chassis as slash).
True, this is is the cheapest/slowest variant, but was more than enough here :)

The main issues with LEGO motorization are as follows:
1. Excessive weight of components that do not serve a functional purpose beyond aesthetics.
2. Large size of complex mechanisms, contributing to increased weight.
3. Significant play or slack in various components, making it challenging to drive straight at speeds exceeding 10-12 km/h without intricate chassis tuning.
4. The challenges of controlling high-speed models due to the lack of suitable applications, limited development, and support.
5. The absence of high-torque motors capable of delivering power at low RPM (less than full throttle). The BuWizz motor is good but only when running at maximum speed.
6. Significant issues with friction at high RPMs, causing rapid wear and tear of components such as hubs when exposed to dust and dirt.
7. ... I could go on endlessly about what LEGO lacks, yet I continue to love it. 😊
I might have to buy another one of these Audi E-Tron kits so I can make that Halo Warthog with the upgraded motors. Not to mention I learned I can motorize my Sian. Had no idea about that rebrickable website. Thanks a lot for the info.

If Buwizz was selling units at scale, the price per kit will be much lower, and much better compared to the Traxxas car.
I've found the best of both worlds by building custom electronics that have nice physical controls and no lag. By converting DC motors to Lego, I have myself much faster cars for dirt cheap. Still doesn't compare to an actual RC but it is not slow or expensive either. If you have the knowledge and confidence to mess around with electronics and lipo batteries, you can do some pretty cool stuff with lego
Thank you for sharing this video. I have a LOT of Traxxas trucks and street cars, including the XO that tops out at 100MPH. I have the Slash 4x4 LIPO powered brushless truck. It's a lot of fun. I also have the Ford crawler with the lift kit. I definitely want to try alternative power packs and motors for the Lego R/C kits, for more power, torque, and better remote control range.

I've tried putting huge engines in Lego, they just rip everything apart like it's nothing. You can't really do anything about it, Lego was never meant to face such extreme forces
I personally own the traxxas slash 4x4 vxl and I love it though mine doesn’t look the best at the moment because that was my first 4x4 rc car that was also brushless so when I first got it a few months ago that was quite a lethal combo even though j only ran it on 2s lipo but anyways I would recommend getting a 4s rc car any day over the 2WD variants.

There's no business expense here :) Can you build a Batmobile from the Slash parts only? Or a buggy? Or a truck? No you can't, simple as that :) LEGO builds will never be as fast or as powerful as RC cars, but RC cars will never be as versatile as LEGO.

The argument is that "buying custom parts" is a con for rcs. When you bought custom parts for the Lego model to make it rc
I have built Legos all my life. And I have some rc cars too. They both require you to buy new components because usually the stuff you get from one Lego set still limits you
And with some imagination. You can use those rc components in a lot more ways than just intended. As for the batmobile, that's literally just some body work.
@@Gio98art you still don't get my point. You buy a LEGO set, and *without* buying anything else, you can build tons of things using the very same parts. No need to buy anything extra. I buy the Audi set, and I can build a Batmobile, a Buggy, and so on. You go on rebrickable.com, search for the set number, and will get lots of alternate builds for each official set. If I buy a TRX4 Bronco, I will only have a TRX4 Bronco. I can buy of course parts and customize the hell out of it, but for every modification I need to buy extra parts. From this point of view, RC cars will never beat LEGO.
Motorized LEGO sets are not meantime to be actual rc cars and the comparison is apples to oranges, I've always seen motorized LEGO as just a cool extra feature
400 euro for a worse experience than a 2wd slash for half the price :D Niiice i understand that it's feel good to build a working model form lego and playing with it but to compare it to an actual rc car is jsut set yourself up for failure....

They are a LOT of fun. Just have some major room for them to "run". Small spaces will not have enough pavement or dirt, and you may end up with some crashes.
I feel real rc cars are alot better value for the money. They are alot more durable, faster and bigger. So more fun to play around with
Try the Revo 2.0 or the X-MAXX or the XRT. They will survive quite a beating. :-)

I have a question. How do you use 2 buwizz at the same time. I have a buggy where I can put two buwizz in it and i don‘t know how to connect them together with the app

No, their plugs are not compatible. It's actually the other way around - you can use BuWizz 3.0 Pro to drive Powered Up and Power Functions motors.

i feel really bad when a pro lego collector (and a rc collector but still more lego) said that rc lego was sucks...
Is it possible to show what speed you achieve of both cars? Buwizz team get 14,5km/h of Audi and from my perspective it was way enough to have a fun from play with this car. I only try to imagine hos fast cen by that second RC car and how tough is to control it.

With the buwizz upgrade - is there any noticable wearing of parts (axles are my main concern) with the increased speed?
Not yet, but sooner or later there will be, especially if you drive it outdoors. Most of my outdoor RC LEGO vehicles need some of their cross axles / gears to be replaced after a while.
The biggest issue, in my opinion, is with the new wheel hubs from set 42160. They lack lubrication, and dust easily gets inside through the gaps, which is almost impossible to wash out. After the very first ride outdoors on gravel and dusty roads, the wheel hubs started rotating significantly worse((( That's why I prefer going out after rain when the dust is settled on the ground.@@RacingBrick
all drive elements must be greased with vaseline, and some lego aluminum parts can also be purchased
From Mould King you can buy carbon axles. They are included in some sets or with motors.
Put Vaseline on axles and gears and cover them with pieces of paper or cardboard to prevent dust from getting there altogether. This will significantly increase the longevity of your parts

@@RacingBrick not completely. Just as with Lego you can decide to make alterations. You can switch springs, engine, tires and pimp it with lights and other accessories.
@@RoysIdea I mean when you buy the kit, you get a single set of springs, motors and everything else, and with that you can build a specific configuration.
That's what I tried to point out in the video as the main difference, since a certain amount of LEGO pieces give you way more possibilities without buying anything extra. With RC cars you need to pay attention to a lot of things, e.g. my Traxxas TRX4 Bronco cannot accept a lot of other TRX4 bodies because the wheelbase is different, I need to buy an additional kit to have that changed.
@@RacingBrick From the limited view of the complete set you are correct. But in the video you also mentioned that you can build other models with just a few extra bricks. For the true Lego fanatics they probably already have those.
For me, in-house Lego is my preference, but outside or in a big hall I would prefer an RC kit.

One advantage of the LEGO RC car though is that you can fix it without having to buy replacement parts when it does break. The "true" RC car can get quite expense that way. But yeah it sure is more fun bashing at 50km/h 😂
I had a WLToys buggy, lasted about 20 minutes before breaking down, and I didn't do anything special with it.
@@RacingBrick I don't share that experience. My 12017 took quite some beatings before I needed to order replacement parts. You know, crashing into a pole with 1 wheel is a recipe for disaster, no matter the brand lol. But sure, it's cheaper, Chinese stuff so I guess Traxxas could be tougher.
@@MichelHoogervorst couldn't brake my Traxxas cars yet, but those are not invincible either. Also had a lot of Chinese stuff previously, according to my experience they are usually too powerful compared to their toughness and easier to break.
Be careful with the jumping. Get some extra parts for the front and the parts that keep those front wheels in place.
I bought a used Mould King buggy and I noticed there are some metal parts in the set. The set does not have enough torque though and needs an upgrade.
Cool video but dont you try the powering system with the MouldKing rechargeable batteries and buggy morors? I think they are good too and less expensive than buwizz :D
They are less expensive for sure, but as far as I know the MK 6.0 module only provides ~8V, so the speed would be significantly slower than the BuWizz version.

In my opinion the RC functions in Lego is just a gimmick, so I try to put as many functions as possible with my power up kit . If you want a proper RC buy a good RC car. :D I would never put it into dirt my Lego defender.
One of the only problems with the traxxas is the steering it looked quite hard to steer
Nahh my dudeeeee 🤣 are you a 🤡 You cna say a lot of nageative things about traxxas controls ain't one :D it's skill issue i bough the rustler vxl which is almost th ehighest end that can be in the rustler series it cna do 60+ mph and still drivable even if my servo is failing which is a traxxas thing for sure 🤣
buwizz may have quality but oh my god there is no way in hell the motors and components cost this stupidly much(if they actually do im sorry but my stupid brain cant comprehend this)Now to clarify ,im not hating on buwizz,i like that they exist,but their prices are so unreachable that the average dude will have to buy from cheap knock offs or mould king at best.

What would make that more "accurate"? LEGO parts are simply not designed for that amount of power.

Save your money and just get a RC car, no point buying a $250 Lego car and spending $400 to make it as fast as one that you pull back and let go off…..gimmicky and stupid at least the RC car can come out of corners sideways around a Lego car you just put almost $600 on….can buy a real car for that 😂
