In an interview a few weeks ago for Eurosport, he revealed that this 147 in the Welsh Open final against his pupil Ding Junhuí, is one of his career favorites. It's amazing and at the same time, I realize more and more that Ronnie was actually born to play snooker
Ronnie's made so many 147s and I've watched all of them a countless number of times. It seems this one may rank as one of the best, considering his positional play was nearly perfect throughout. He didn't ever need any breathtaking recovery shots to regain position. Maybe just the way the balls were spread...
I’d tend to agree. I think the last red alone, followed by the cue ball finishing perfectly on the black, makes it his best. I think he’s the only player that looks like they know they’re making a 147 mid-break, the guy doesn’t pause for a second
This is the perfect example of what they call 'flow'. In any sport, music, or art, whatever it may be. Sometimes the greatest just find a groove and do things that seem unfathomable to the rest of us. As the commentator says, he barely even set and aimed. Unbelievable talent.
The final red in this break - left-handed, near the cushion, wrong end of the table for the black - this is one of the best shots I have ever seen, particularly given the circumstances. If you don’t play snooker, you might not fully understand, but judging the distance of screw is a real tough one and because he’s coming across the line of his next shot, a couple of inches out either way and he’s out of position and the maximum is dead. He landed exactly spot on with perfect position to get up for the yellow. When you combine that with the difficulty of the pot and that he was playing left-handed, they just don’t come much more special than that.
I sat through Cliff Thorburn's 147, live, in goodness knows what year it was. I was as knackered as he was by the time he potted the black for the final time (as was the case with most of his and Eddie Charlton's matches). Fast forward umpteen years, and Ronnie now gets 147s wrapped up in just over 7 minutes. Amazing.
This guy is unique in so many ways ! Just the fact that he round this match up with a left-handed black says a lot, and the last red as well , not to forget ! He has done most maximums in tournaments, 13 ! Six of those is the fastest anyone has ever made with the 5 min 20 sec at the Crucible as the crown-jewel. And that 5 twenty is a record who no one ever will beat, never ever, it cant be done, simple as that. And that is because he is the only player ever who has mastered a snooker-table, the other players are mastered by the table, he is not. He is headmaster at the Green Cloth Academy !!
